Abstract

The invention relates to a cornering element (1) in particular for surface coverings, which comprises a central portion (10) and which incorporates a shaped cornering portion (11) at an end thereof, a shape of which is obtained in geometrical terms by rotating a straight section of the central portion (10) through a predetermined angle.

Description

  • The invention relates to a cornering element, especially for surface coverings.
  • Specifically but not exclusively the invention is applicable to edge finishing on ceramic work surfaces, such as those typically present in a kitchen or bathroom.
  • The prior art teaches two finishing solutions. A first of these solutions provides special edging strips which are longer than the tiles they are coordinated with, such that it is possible, by means of a previous cut according to a predetermined angle, to create an edge by coupling the heads of two cut edging strips. Obvously, the resulting corner projects from the tile edges. A further known solution uses special angled corner pieces, whose function is symmetrically to cover the edge. Here, the strips do not have to be specially cut but only laid regularly with a corner piece at the corners.
  • In the first of the above-described solutions, laying is difficult and the special elements have to be made longer than normal in order to allow for them to be cut to size.
  • The second above solution uses the mentioned corner pieces, not at all easy to manufacture. The present invention, as it is characterised in the claims that follow, obviates the above-mentioned drawbacks in the prior art by providing a cornering element of simple and efficient conformation.
  • Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will better emerge from the detailed description that follows, of an embodiment of the invention, illustrated in the form of a non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings, in which:
    • figure 1 shows a schematic lateral view of the invention;
    • figure 2 shows a schematic view from above of figure 1;
    • figure 3 is a schematic perspective view.
  • With reference to the figures, 1 denotes in its entirety the object of the invention, a cornering element, especially for edging surface coverings. The element 1 is a strip with a shaped end. A central portion 10 thereof is straight and constantly shaped, while a cornering portion 11 thereof is ideally obtained, in geometrical terms, by rotating the straight section of the central portion 10 by 90 degrees. The cornering portion thus terminates in a shape having a section which is exactly equal to the straight section of the central portion 10 of the straight central portion 10 thereof. Thus a further element 2, that is, not an element 1 having a shaped corner profile but an element 2 consisting of only the central portion 10, can be placed in contact at the shaped end of an element 1 to make a cornering piece. By laying the elements 1 and 2 in this way a whole ceramic-surfaced work surface, for example, can be edged and the corners thereof be softened and finished by the corner produced by laying the cornering portion 11. The fact that only the elements 1 with the shaped cornering portion 11, and not the elements 2 comprising only in effect the central portion 10, are longer than the tiles 3 constituting the surface covering, means that the tiles 3 and the edging elements 1 and 2 can be aligned so that the lines between tiles 3 and those between edging elements coincide.
  • With the invention, therefore, the laying of the edging elements is very easy, does not require laborious cutting and adjusting operations, and enables a pleasing aesthetic result to be obtained, with the lines between tiles and edging elements truly aligned.

Claims (3)

  1. A cornering element, especially for combination with surface coverings, characterized in that it comprises a central portion (10) and incorporates a shaped cornering portion (11) having a shape and dimension obtained, in geometrical terms, by rotating a straight section of said central portion (10) through a predetermined angle.
  2. A cornering element as in claim 1, characterized in that said predetermined angle is a right angle.
  3. A cornering element as in claim 1 or 2, characterized in that said central portion (10) is of such a length that an end thereof opposite to an end exhibiting said shaped cornering portion (11) coincides with a length of flat elements such as tiles (3) used to cover a surface which the corner connecting element is used to edge, so that an interstitial line between said tiles (3) is continued regularly along said end of said corner connecting element.
