Die Sensoreinrichtung umfaßt zweckmäßigerweise mehrere Halbleitersensoren, zum Beispiel sogenannte Hall-Sensoren, die derart am Gehäuse des Arbeitszylinders angebracht werden, daß sie bei sich bewegender Kolbenstange von den unterschiedlich polarisierten Magnetfeldern des Magnetstreifens durchsetzt werden und von einer Auswerteelektronik verwertbare Signale liefern. Durch die berührungslose "Abtastung" wird jeglicher Verschleiß an den zur Positionsbestimmung beitragenden Teilen verhindert. Die zusätzlich über dem Magnetstreifen angeordnete Deckleiste hat den weiteren Effekt, daß der Magnetstreifen selbst beim Durchsetzen einer gehäuseseitigen Abschlußwand und einer dort vorgesehenen Führungs- und/oder Dichtungsanordnung vor Beschädigungen geschützt ist und zugleich eine optimale Abdichtung des Durchgangsbereiches zwischen der Abschlußwand und der Kolbenstange realisiert werden kann, deren Qualität derjenigen einer Abdichtung konventioneller Kolbenstangen in nichts nachsteht. Die Deckleiste bildet wenigstens einen Bestandteil des die Längsnut aufweisenden, Flachgestalt besitzenden Flächenabschnittes der Kolbenstange und ist somit Bestandteil der Außenfläche der Kolbenstange, die mit der erwähnten Führungs- und/oder Dichtungsanordnung in an sich bekannter Weise zusammenarbeiten kann. Dabei besteht die vorteilhafte Möglichkeit, die Deckleiste aus einem den tribologischen Anforderungen entsprechenden Material herzustellen, das hinsichtlich Verschleißfestigkeit und Korrosionsverhalten dem Grundmaterial der Kolbenstange gleichwertig ist. Letztlich liegt eine äußerlich von einer konventionellen Kolbenstange kaum zu unterscheidende Kolbenstange vor, in der der mechanisch sehr empfindliche Magnetstreifen allseits umschlossen geschützt untergebracht ist.
