Die Glimmlampe 1 besteht aus einem kreiszylindrischen Lampenkolben 4 aus Bleiglas mit einem inneren Volumen von ca. 0,11 cm3. Innerhalb des Lampenkolbens 4 befindet sich eine Gasmischung aus 99,95% Neon und 0,05% Krypton bei einem Gesamtfülldruck von 177 hPa. Ferner sind im Innern zwei axial und parallel zueinander orientierte längliche Elektroden 5a, 5b aus Metall angeordnet. Ihre Länge und ihr Durchmesser betragen 3,5 mm bzw. 0,9 mm. Die Elektroden 5a, 5b sind je mit einer Stromzuführung 6a, 6b verbunden. Der Lampenkolben 4 weist an seinem ersten Ende einen Quetschfuß 7 auf, durch den die Stromzuführungen 6a, 6b gasdicht hindurch geführt sind, und eine dem Quetschfuß 7 gegenüberliegende Pumpspitze 8. Die Arme 12a, 13a bzw. 12b, 13b sind in Richtung der Stromzuführungen 6a, 6b orientiert und schließen an ihrem freien Ende mit der Stirnfläche 9 ab.
