  1. Steam iron comprising a heating sole plate (11) having in its bottom face a series of steam outlet holes (12) and in its top face a vaporisation chamber (14) connected to said holes (12) and communicating with a water reservoir (17), and a pump (20) able to take off, from the reservoir (17), a measure of water and to send this measure, by means of a selection device (24), either into the vaporisation chamber (14) in order to obtain abruptly a copious emission of steam through the holes (12) in the sole plate, or to a cold water sprayer (25) situated in the front part of the iron, the pump (20) being of the type with a piston (27) moving in a suction chamber (31) which is provided in the body (21) of the pump and which opens out into the reservoir (17) via a non-return valve (35),
    characterized in that the selection device (24) has a deformable membrane (56) with a substantially flat bottom part (56a) provided with two protuberances (58, 59) each serving as a valve and being held in place sealingly in a dish (39) formed in the top part of the piston (27) of the pump and whose bottom (40), on the one hand, communicates with the suction chamber (31) through a discharge bore (42) formed in the piston, and on the other hand, has two orifices, namely an injection orifice (44) connected to the vaporisation chamber (14) and a spray orifice (45) connected to the sprayer (25), the two valves (59, 58) of the membrane (56) being situated respectively at the two orifices (45, 44) and their functioning being dependent respectively on two manual control buttons, referred to respectively as vaporisation (62) and spray (63) buttons, which project from the top part of the iron and where the vaporisation button (62) is connected with the valve (59) associated with the spray orifice (45), whilst the spray button (63) is connected with the valve (58) associated with the injection orifice (44), the membrane (56) passing from an idle position, defined when the pump (20) is primed, in which the two valves (58, 59) are closed and close off respectively the two orifices (44, ,45), to a working position, defined when one or other of the two buttons (62, 63) is actuated, in which the valve (58; 59) associated with the actuated button (63 ; 62) is held closed by said button and closes off the corresponding orifice (45 ; 44), whilst the valve (58 ; 59) associated with the other button opens through deformation of the membrane (56) caused by the pressure of the water discharged through the bore (42) of the piston and releases the corresponding orifice (44 ; 45) through which the discharged water passes.
  2. Steam iron according to claim 1,
    characterized in that the body (21) of the pump (20) has a vertical axis of symmetry (XX') along which is aligned the discharge bore (42) formed in the piston, and the two orifices (44, 45) formed in the bottom (40) of the dish (39) are situated symmetrically with respect to the axis (XX') of the body (21) of the pump.
  3. Steam iron according to claim 1 or 2,
    characterized in that the membrane (56) has a substantially U-shaped cross-section whose bottom (40) is flat and includes the two valves (58, 59) and whose peripheral end edge (66) is held in abutment against the internal surface of the dish (39) by means of a piece (68) forming a plug closing off the dish, said plug having the tow buttons, respectively vaporisation (62) and spray (63), passing through it.
  4. Steam iron according to claim 3,
    characterized in that the two buttons (62, 63) are push-buttons engaged respectively in two bores (71, 72) formed in the closure plug (68), vertically in line with the two valves (58, 59) of the membrane (56).
  5. Steam iron according to claim 3 or 4,
    characterized in that the membrane (56) provided with the two valves (58, 59) is produced from an elastomer material and constitutes a sealing joint between the piston (27) and the closure plug (68).
  6. Steam iron according to one of claims 2 to 5,
    characterized in that the two orifices (44, 45) of the dish (39) open out respectively into two transverse conduits (47, 48) forming an integral part of the piston (27) of the pump and connected respectively to the vaporisation chamber (14) and to the sprayer (25) through a flexible duct (51 ; 53).
  7. Steam iron according to one of claims 3 to 6,
    characterized in that the piston (27), the membrane (56) provided with the two valves (58, 59), the closure plug (68) and the two buttons (62, 63) constitute a unitary assembly.
  8. Steam iron according to any one of the preceding claims,
    characterized in that it further comprises a non-return valve (75) interposed between the outlet of the pump (20), on the same side as the injection orifice (44) formed in the bottom of the dish (39), and the inlet of the vaporisation chamber (14).
