Definitions
- the invention relates to a pneumatic directional valve according to the type specified in the preamble of claim 1.
- Such a pneumatic directional control valve is already known, which is designed as a monostable 5/2 valve, the longitudinal slide of which is pilot-controlled by a 3/2 solenoid valve. Switching the longitudinal slide into a working position is only effective as long as the magnet in the pilot valve is energized and pressurizes an actuating piston with a larger effective diameter.
- the longitudinal slide from the working position to its stable initial position is inevitably carried out by switching off the pilot valve by means of an air spring, for which purpose a return piston with a smaller effective diameter is constantly acted upon by the inlet pressure.
- the longitudinal slide is thus actuated by a differential piston, the reset mechanism working purely pneumatically to achieve a monostable function.
- the counter pressure acting on the reset means that the longitudinal slide is only activated in such directional control valves after overcoming the static friction of the actuating piston and slide seals and the restoring forces can be moved.
- long downtimes can now occur, whereby the seals cling to the surface and the existing grease is squeezed at these points. This can result in a relatively high breakaway pressure being required for the subsequent switching of the directional valve.
- This phenomenon can occur particularly strongly with small-sized valves and thus also lead to longer switching times.
- the actuating piston must be designed with a correspondingly large diameter, which is particularly disadvantageous in the case of small valves where little installation space is available. A large piston diameter also has an unfavorable effect on the switching times.
- the pneumatic directional control valve according to the invention with the characterizing features of the main claim has the advantage that it enables a lower breakaway pressure in such directional control valves for safe switching behavior.
- This movement takes place at a lower pressure on the actuating piston.
- the longitudinal slide is moved in the direction of the working position against the correspondingly lower required forces of sliding friction and the return mechanism, the return piston being loaded with pressure only in the course of the stroke of the longitudinal slide. In this way, shorter switching times can also be achieved with the monostable directional valve.
- this design enables the Directional control valve also has a smaller effective diameter of the actuating piston, which has a particularly favorable effect on small valves in which the longitudinal slide valve often has a diameter of only a few millimeters. Furthermore, a smaller stroke volume on the actuating piston also leads to faster pressure reduction and thus to a shorter switch-back time of the directional valve.
- the directional control valve can furthermore be produced in a particularly simple and inexpensive manner using existing components.
- Figures 1 and 2 each show a longitudinal section through a first or second embodiment in a simplified representation.
- FIG. 1 shows a longitudinal section through a pneumatic directional valve 10, which is designed as a pilot-operated, monostable 5/2 valve.
- the directional control valve 10 has a valve housing 11, in which a continuous slide bore 12 receives a tightly and slidably guided longitudinal slide 13.
- a first (15) and second consumer chamber (16) is located, while the first and second return chambers (17 and 18) connect to the outside.
- These chambers 14 to 18 are connected in a corresponding manner to an inlet connection 19, a first and second consumer connection 21, 22 and a first and second return connection 23, 24, all of which are led out downward in the valve housing 11.
- a piston housing 26 On the left end face 25 of the valve housing 11, a piston housing 26 is attached, in the interior of which an actuating piston 27 for the longitudinal slide 13 is arranged.
- the piston housing 26 is also closed by an intermediate plate (28) to which a 3/2-way solenoid valve 29 serving for pilot control is attached.
- the valve housing 11 On its other end face 31, the valve housing 11 is closed by a cover 32.
- the solenoid valve 29 has a pressure connection 33 which is connected via a control line 34 to the inlet chamber 14 in the valve housing 11.
- An outlet connection 35 of the solenoid valve 29 is connected to the first return connection 23 via an outlet channel 36.
- a control connection 37 of the solenoid valve 29 is connected to a first pressure chamber 38 which is formed in the piston housing 26 and is delimited by the intermediate plate 28 or the slidingly mounted actuating piston 27.
- the actuating piston 27 has a substantially larger diameter than the outer diameter of the longitudinal slide 13 and has a lip sealing ring 39 which serves to seal the pressure chamber 38.
- the longitudinal slide 13 is designed for a 5/2 function and for this purpose has five piston sections 41 to 45, two sealing rings 46 being arranged on the central third piston section 43, while the other piston sections 41, 42 and 44, 45 each have a similar sealing ring 46.
- the longitudinal slide 13 has a first annular groove 47, via which the first consumer connection 21 is connected to the first return connection 23 in the drawn initial position of the longitudinal slide 13.
- the longitudinal slide 13 has a second annular groove 48 between the middle piston section 43 and the fourth piston section 44 adjoining on the right, via which the inlet connection 19 is connected to the second consumer connection 22 in the position of the longitudinal slide 13 shown.
- the second return port 24 is blocked pneumatically by the piston sections 44 and 45 with their respective sealing rings 46.
- the longitudinal slide 13 with its fifth piston section 45 forms a return piston 49, which delimits a second pressure chamber 51, in which a return spring 52 is additionally arranged.
- the return spring 52 is supported on the one hand on the cover 32 and on the other hand on the front side on the longitudinal slide 13.
- the piston sections 42 to 44 with their associated sealing rings 46 thus form control edges in order to control the connection between the connections 19 to 24 in the manner required for the 5/2 function.
- a control channel 53 is formed by a longitudinal and transverse bore, which starts from the end face of the fifth piston section 45 and in the first annular groove 47 opens. In this way, it connects the second pressure chamber 51 to the first consumer connection 21.
- the effective area of the return piston 49 corresponds to the outside diameter of the longitudinal slide 13, so that the return piston 49 and the actuating piston 27 together form a differential piston, with the aid of which the longitudinal slide 13 can be deflected .
- the mode of operation of the directional valve 10 is explained as follows:
- the pilot-controlled, monostable 5/2-way valve 10 is shown in its initial position, which is also referred to as the rest position.
- the pilot valve serving solenoid valve 29 is not energized, whereby its pressure connection 33 is shut off. Pressure medium is diverted from the pressure in the inlet connection 19 to the control pressure supply via the control line 34, but this pressure is blocked in the pressure connection 33.
- the non-energized 3/2 solenoid valve 29 relieves the first pressure chamber 38 via the control connection 37, the discharge connection 35 and the discharge channel 36 to the first return connection 33.
- the longitudinal slide 13 is thus only held in the illustrated initial position by the force of the return spring 52, wherein the second pressure chamber 51 is connected via the control channel 53 to the first consumer connection 21, which in turn is relieved of load in this initial position to the first return connection 23.
- the longitudinal slide 13 is thus stabilized in the initial position shown.
- the longitudinal slide 13 To operate the directional valve 10, the longitudinal slide 13 must be moved from the drawn starting position to the right into a working position, not shown.
- the pilot valve 29 is switched by energizing the coil in the solenoid valve 29, its pressure connection 33 being connected to the control connection 37, while the connection to the drain port 35 is interrupted.
- the pressure branched off from the inlet connection 19 can now build up via the control line 34 and the open solenoid valve 29 in the first pressure chamber 38, where it acts on the actuating piston 27.
- the force of the actuating piston 27 pushes the longitudinal slide 13 because of its larger pressurized area compared to the force of the return piston 49 and the spring 52, from the drawn starting position into its working position.
- the actuating piston 27 must overcome the static friction at the beginning of this movement, which results primarily from the sealing rings on the actuating piston 27 and on the longitudinal slide 13.
- the usual back pressure in the second pressure chamber 51 on the return piston 49 is now removed, since this pressure chamber 51 is relieved via the control channel 53 to the first return port 23.
- This movement can therefore take place after overcoming the static friction at a lower, existing pressure on the actuating piston 27. In other words, this means that the movement of the longitudinal slide 13 is initiated at a lower breakaway pressure.
- the longitudinal slide 13 only has to be moved in the direction of its working position against the lower resistances of the sliding friction and the return spring 52.
- the first consumer connection 21 is thus alternately connected to the inlet connection 19 or the exhaust air 23, depending on the switching position of the longitudinal slide 13.
- the lower breakaway pressure that can be achieved in this way also leads to shorter switching times of the directional control valve 10.
- the effective diameter of the actuating piston 27 can also be made smaller.
- the smaller stroke volume in the first pressure chamber 38 also enables faster pressure reduction and thus a shorter switch-back time of the valve.
- the longitudinal slide 13 remains in its working position as long as the solenoid valve 29 is energized, the second consumer connection 22 being connected to the second return connection 24 via the second annular groove 48.
- the current at the solenoid valve 29 is switched off.
- the pressure on the actuating piston 27 is initially reduced until the forces of the return outweigh and move the longitudinal slide 13 back towards its starting position.
- the first consumer connection 21 connected to the inlet connection 19 is connected to the first return connection 23.
- the pressure on the return piston 49 is now reduced during the last part of the longitudinal slide stroke up to the pressure at the return port 23 via the now open connection to the exhaust air side. The resetting of the longitudinal slide 13 on the last part of the slide stroke is therefore increasingly carried out only by the force of the return spring 52.
- FIG. 2 shows a longitudinal section through a second directional valve 60, which differs from that according to FIG. 1 as follows, the same reference numerals being used for the same components:
- the directional control valve 60 has another valve housing 61 in which the control channel 53 now runs.
- the control channel 53 in turn establishes the connection between the second pressure chamber 51 and the first consumer connection 21.
- the operation of the directional control valve 60 corresponds to that of the directional control valve 10 according to FIG. 1.
- the 5/2-way valve can also be used as a 3/2-way valve in that the consumer connection 21 or 22 is not used and is therefore blocked.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a pneumatic directional valve according to the type specified in the preamble of claim 1.
Such a pneumatic directional control valve is already known, which is designed as a monostable 5/2 valve, the longitudinal slide of which is pilot-controlled by a 3/2 solenoid valve. Switching the longitudinal slide into a working position is only effective as long as the magnet in the pilot valve is energized and pressurizes an actuating piston with a larger effective diameter. The longitudinal slide from the working position to its stable initial position is inevitably carried out by switching off the pilot valve by means of an air spring, for which purpose a return piston with a smaller effective diameter is constantly acted upon by the inlet pressure. The longitudinal slide is thus actuated by a differential piston, the reset mechanism working purely pneumatically to achieve a monostable function. The counter pressure acting on the reset means that the longitudinal slide is only activated in such directional control valves after overcoming the static friction of the actuating piston and slide seals and the restoring forces can be moved. With such directional valves, long downtimes can now occur, whereby the seals cling to the surface and the existing grease is squeezed at these points. This can result in a relatively high breakaway pressure being required for the subsequent switching of the directional valve. This phenomenon can occur particularly strongly with small-sized valves and thus also lead to longer switching times. In order to surely overcome such adhesive forces, the actuating piston must be designed with a correspondingly large diameter, which is particularly disadvantageous in the case of small valves where little installation space is available. A large piston diameter also has an unfavorable effect on the switching times.
The pneumatic directional control valve according to the invention with the characterizing features of the main claim has the advantage that it enables a lower breakaway pressure in such directional control valves for safe switching behavior. By removing the pressure on the return piston during the first phase of the movement of the longitudinal slide, this movement takes place at a lower pressure on the actuating piston. After overcoming the adhesive forces before the start of the movement, the longitudinal slide is moved in the direction of the working position against the correspondingly lower required forces of sliding friction and the return mechanism, the return piston being loaded with pressure only in the course of the stroke of the longitudinal slide. In this way, shorter switching times can also be achieved with the monostable directional valve. In addition, this design enables the Directional control valve also has a smaller effective diameter of the actuating piston, which has a particularly favorable effect on small valves in which the longitudinal slide valve often has a diameter of only a few millimeters. Advantageous further developments and improvements of the directional valve specified in the main claim are possible through the measures listed in the subclaims. Further advantageous embodiments result from the description and the drawing.
Two embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawing and explained in more detail in the following description. Figures 1 and 2 each show a longitudinal section through a first or second embodiment in a simplified representation.
On the
The
The
In the
The mode of operation of the
To operate the
For the subsequent switching of the
With this path-dependent controlled pressurization of the

Die Wirkungsweise des Wegeventils 60 entspricht derjenigen des Wegeventils 10 nach Figur 1.FIG. 2 shows a longitudinal section through a second

Of course, changes are possible to the embodiments shown without departing from the spirit of the invention.
