Definitions
- the invention relates to a thrust generating device, in particular a transverse thrust control device for weapon-carrying missiles and missiles, according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
- an engine arrangement with at least one longitudinal thrust engine i.e. a main engine, and several transverse thrusters known, all engines are designed as liquid engines, and separate tanks for fuel and oxidizer are available. All engines are supplied with fuel by a common turbopump system. With the help of appropriate valves, the engines can be operated individually and together.
- the selected fuel supply makes the transverse thruster dependent on the main engine in terms of design and operation, so that the transverse thruster cannot be handled as a separate unit, e.g. is interchangeable, retrofittable or otherwise usable.
- Liquid rocket fuels can be chemically aggressive, especially corrosive, environmentally harmful or highly toxic, and can develop high internal pressures when stored. In any case, they are flammable and explosive, with hypergolic fuel combinations and catalytically activable one-component fuels being particularly critical.
- solid rocket engine systems are almost exclusively intended for the propulsion and transverse thrust control of military missiles, missiles and projectiles, despite their disadvantages such as single ignition, limited controllability of the throughput, fuel deposits in flow channels, valves etc., no extremely short burning time, etc.
- the object of the invention is to provide a thrust generating device which has the advantages of liquid rocket engine systems and is as easy and safe to handle as corresponding solid engine systems.
- the thrust generating device should be quick and easy to install, remove and activate.
- the thrust generation device is a modular liquid rocket engine system with special safety-related features Features that make the preferred use in the military area practically possible.
- Features d) to k) specifically form the security-relevant part of the proposed solution.
- the thrust generating device according to the invention can also be provided as an emergency unit in various types of aircraft as a temporary replacement for failed rudder surfaces, steering rotors etc., e.g. as a tail rotor replacement in helicopters.
- the sub-claims 2 to 8 contain preferred embodiments of the thrust generating device according to claim 1.
- the thrust generating device 1 is designed as a closed, modular unit and is provided as a transverse thrust control device for a missile or a missile, which improves its maneuverability significantly, particularly in the launch phase and in the final approach phase of its wearer.
- the main drive of the carrier i.e. its longitudinal thrust device is independent of the thrust generating device 1 and can be designed, for example, as a liquid rocket engine, solid rocket engine, rocket jet engine with liquid or solid fuel or turbo air jet engine. Carriers without their own main drive can also be used, e.g. End-phase guided projectiles, which are fired from barrel weapons.
- the intended flight and thus longitudinal direction of the thrust generating device 1 runs vertically through the engine arrangement Defined transverse shear plane horizontally, the carrier tip being arranged above, for example, the main part of the carrier with drive correspondingly below the module shown.
- the thrust generating device 1 has a circular cylindrical shape with essentially flat, fastening end plates 28 and 29, in the area of which the connections for the external energy supply, data transmission, etc. are also arranged (not shown).
- the closed, metallic outer shell 8 only leaves corresponding openings free in the area of the engine nozzles 15, 16 of the rocket engines 2, 3. There are preferably four engines, each offset by 90 ° in one plane, so that targeted control about the pitch and yaw axis of the carrier is possible.
- the thrust directions of the two engines are thus perpendicular to the plane of the drawing down and up. All engines are arranged within a central bulkhead 10 designed as a double membrane and attached to a block-like fuel distributor 11.
- the bulkhead 10 divides the volume delimited by the outer shell 8 into an upper chamber 12 and a lower chamber 13, which are hermetically separated from one another.
- the tank 4 with the oxidizer 6, for example N2O4 (dinitrogen tetroxide), is in the upper chamber 12, the tank 5 with the fuel, for example UDMH (unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine), in the lower chamber 13, so that the possibly hypergolic reacting fuel components are also hermetically separated.
- the stable bulkhead 10 with its massive “innards” is highly likely not to leak even when fired at.
- the empty spaces in the chambers 12 and 13 are provided with a suction medium filling 14, which absorbs and binds fuel escaping from the respective tank in the event of a leak or fire.
- the outer shell 8 is coated on its inside with a so-called “self-healing" film 9, which, for example, seals up to a certain extent hole-like damage caused by projectiles and thus prevents any granular suction medium containing fuel from escaping from the damaged outer shell 8 prevented.
- Such slides are known for example from combat aircraft tanks.
- the tanks 4, 5 are filled for reasons of safety and readiness for use in the storage state of the thrust generating device 1, but are depressurized, apart from the temperature-dependent internal pressure of the fuels.
- the tightness of the filling connections 24 and 25 is ensured by cold welding after the filling process.
- On the outlet side, welded-on rupture disks 26, 27 ensure the tightness of the tanks 4, 5.
- the pressurization of the fuels 6, 7 for the purpose of conveying them out of the tanks 4, 5 takes place only in the case of use via a common pressure line 19 which leads through the bulkhead 10.
- Elastic / plastically deformable, metallic membranes 22, 23 in the tanks 4, 5 separate the respective fuel from the pressurizing gas.
- the pressurized gas is generated by a gas generator 17 with a shorter burning time and a gas generator 18 with a longer burning time, the gas generator 17 being intended for operation in the start phase of the carrier, the gas generator 18 for operation in the final phase of the carrier's flight mission (target approach) .
- the check valve 20 prevents an undesired ignition of the gas generator 18 by the propellant gases of the gas generator 17. Possibly occurring, undesirably high pressure peaks in the pressure system are prevented by the pressure relief valve 21.
- the first pressure pulse from the gas generator 17 destroys the bursting disks 26 and 27 on the tank outlet side, so that the fuels can flow to the fuel valves, here 30 to 33, and thus ultimately to the rocket engines, here 2 and 3.
- the fuel line 34 and the fuel valves 30 and 32 are provided for the oxidizer 6, the fuel line 35 and the fuel valves 31 and 33 for the fuel 7.
- the arrangement of the flow channels and functional elements in the block-like, solid fuel distributor 11 offers the highest degree of security against leakage, damage, etc.
- the tanks 4, 5 are attached to the fuel distributor 11 by means of assembly-friendly and reliable V-band connections are attached, with additional, radially acting support bearings (floating bearings) being provided towards the end plates 28, 29.
- the fuel valves are set by the pressure of one of the two fuel components, with electrical servomotors (not shown) controlling the setting process.
- the control function leads to minor fuel losses, which are tolerable.
- an electrical safety device (not shown) is provided, which is activated via temperature sensors on the tanks 4, 5 and uses the existing depression and fuel system to pulse-free blow off of the fuels causes at least one engine pair with compensating thrust components. An explosion of the fueled thrust generating device 1 in the event of a fire can thereby be avoided.
- the power supply to the safety device is preferably only initiated when a temperature limit is exceeded, e.g. by filling the electrolyte into a battery.
- all functional elements of the thrust generating device 1 should be made insensitive to gamma rays.

Description
The invention relates to a thrust generating device, in particular a transverse thrust control device for weapon-carrying missiles and missiles, according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
Such and comparable thrust generating devices are known in a large number from the patent literature.
From DE-PS 20 57 326 an engine arrangement with at least one longitudinal thrust engine, i.e. a main engine, and several transverse thrusters known, all engines are designed as liquid engines, and separate tanks for fuel and oxidizer are available. All engines are supplied with fuel by a common turbopump system. With the help of appropriate valves, the engines can be operated individually and together. The selected fuel supply makes the transverse thruster dependent on the main engine in terms of design and operation, so that the transverse thruster cannot be handled as a separate unit, e.g. is interchangeable, retrofittable or otherwise usable.
The advantages of liquid engine systems, such as high specific impulses, long to extremely short burning times, multiple ignition etc., are offset by serious disadvantages of a safety-related nature. Liquid rocket fuels can be chemically aggressive, especially corrosive, environmentally harmful or highly toxic, and can develop high internal pressures when stored. In any case, they are flammable and explosive, with hypergolic fuel combinations and catalytically activable one-component fuels being particularly critical.
Especially in the military, where with years of storage, rough handling and in the case of defense with fire, fire etc. is to be expected, these disadvantages have hitherto prevented the use of liquid rocket engine systems to a relevant extent. It should also be mentioned that liquid rocket fuels leak out of their tanks due to leakage, shelling etc. and can very quickly take on a large area or spatial extent (gas development), which - in connection with the risk of fire and explosion - is particularly devastating in ships Can have consequences.
Steuerbarkeit des Durchsatzes, Treibstoffablagerungen in Strömungskanälen, Ventilen etc., keine extrem kurze Brenndauer usw..For this reason, solid rocket engine systems are almost exclusively intended for the propulsion and transverse thrust control of military missiles, missiles and projectiles, despite their disadvantages such as single ignition, limited controllability of the throughput, fuel deposits in flow channels, valves etc., no extremely short burning time, etc.
Examples of such transverse thrust control devices with solid propellants include described in DE-OS 35 31 686 and in DE-OS 35 21 204.
In view of the known solutions, the object of the invention is to provide a thrust generating device which has the advantages of liquid rocket engine systems and is as easy and safe to handle as corresponding solid engine systems. In addition, the thrust generating device should be quick and easy to install, remove and activate.
This object is achieved in connection with the generic features by the features a) to k) mentioned in the characterizing part of the main claim.
Thus, the thrust generation device according to the invention is a modular liquid rocket engine system with special safety-related features Features that make the preferred use in the military area practically possible. Features d) to k) specifically form the security-relevant part of the proposed solution.
In addition to its main area of application, the thrust generating device according to the invention can also be provided as an emergency unit in various types of aircraft as a temporary replacement for failed rudder surfaces, steering rotors etc., e.g. as a tail rotor replacement in helicopters.
The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the drawing. This shows a greatly simplified, partially schematic representation of a longitudinal central section through a thrust generating device.
The thrust generating device 1 is designed as a closed, modular unit and is provided as a transverse thrust control device for a missile or a missile, which improves its maneuverability significantly, particularly in the launch phase and in the final approach phase of its wearer. The main drive of the carrier, i.e. its longitudinal thrust device is independent of the thrust generating device 1 and can be designed, for example, as a liquid rocket engine, solid rocket engine, rocket jet engine with liquid or solid fuel or turbo air jet engine. Carriers without their own main drive can also be used, e.g. End-phase guided projectiles, which are fired from barrel weapons.
In the figure, the intended flight and thus longitudinal direction of the thrust generating device 1 runs vertically through the engine arrangement Defined transverse shear plane horizontally, the carrier tip being arranged above, for example, the main part of the carrier with drive correspondingly below the module shown. The thrust generating device 1 has a circular cylindrical shape with essentially flat, fastening
The fuel valves are set by the pressure of one of the two fuel components, with electrical servomotors (not shown) controlling the setting process. The control function leads to minor fuel losses, which are tolerable.
In the event that impermissibly high outside temperatures act on the thrust generating device 1, an electrical safety device (not shown) is provided, which is activated via temperature sensors on the
With regard to a possible use under the conditions of an atomic attack, all functional elements of the thrust generating device 1 should be made insensitive to gamma rays.
