Wie aus Fig. 4 ersichtlich ist, wird zur Montage der Universalzwinge an einer Treppe 19 das obere Vierkantrohr 12 mit der U-förmigen Auflage 13 im Eckbereich auf eine Treppenstufe gelegt, so daß die Gewindespindel 1 außen parallel zur Treppe 19 verläuft. Durch Drehen des Gelenkrohrs 9 in dem Vierkantrohr 12 kann die Gewindespindel 1 in eine Winkelstellung zu dem Geländerteil 2 gebracht werden, die es erlaubt, das Vierkantrohr 3 mit dem darauf angebrachten Winkel 4 an die schräge Unterseite der Treppe 19 anzulegen. Die U-förmige Auflage 13 des Vierkantrohrs 12 dient also als oberes Widerlager der Zwinge und der Winkel 4 und das Vierkantrohr 3 dienen als unteres Widerlager der Zwinge bei deren Befestigung. Die Verkippung des Vierkantrohrs 3 gegenüber dem Vierkantrohr 12 wird aus der Fig. 3 deutlich, die einen Schnitt längs der Linie III-III in Fig. 1 zeigt. In dieser Abbildung sind zwei verkippte Positionen 3'' des Vierkantrohres 3 strichpunktiert angedeutet, wie sie zum Beispiel bei der Montage der Universalzwinge an einer Treppe 19 auftreten. Durch Andrehen der Gewindehülse 5 unter Zuhilfenahme eines Zimmermannshammers oder eines ähnlichen auf einer Baustelle verfügbaren Werkzeugs wird die Universalzwinge fest mit der Treppe 19 verbunden. In die Geländerhalterungen 15, 16 zweier oder mehrerer derart befestigter Universalzwingen können Geländerbretter 21 eingelegt werden, um die Treppe 19 vorschriftsmäßig zu sichern.
