Definitions
- the invention relates to an extinguishing agent for use as a dry extinguishing agent or extinguishing agent additive in water and also includes methods for producing the extinguishing agent.
- the most common extinguishing agent is water.
- Water has a number of advantages for this purpose. First of all, its cooling effect, i.e. to highlight its heat binding capacity. To completely evaporate one liter of water, you need 2257 KJ (539 kcal). When extinguished, the water extracts the heat from the flammable substance to below the ignition temperature, which extinguishes the fire. Furthermore, the water has a mechanical extinguishing effect because it hits the combustible mass from a jet pipe, divides it and thus promotes the extinguishing effect. In addition, water vapor is generated when extinguishing with water because the water completely evaporates at temperatures of around 100 ° C and above.
- water has a number of disadvantages when it comes to extinguishing. So water does not stay at the source of the fire long enough because it drains away quickly. Therefore, must be substantial Amounts of water are used over long periods of time to successfully fight the fire. Outside of inhabited areas, e.g. in forests, at resettlers' yards, in mountainous regions of southern latitude, water is rarely available in sufficient quantities. Large quantities of pollutants can be washed away when fire-fighting water flows away, for example when fighting fires in chemical industry plants. As a rule, it is hardly possible to re-use extinguishing water because the water is mixed with aggressive media due to its pollution. In addition, fire water with a temperature equal to or greater than about 40 ° C can no longer be pumped satisfactorily with normal fire service centrifugal pumps.
- water mixed with a foaming agent as is used in combustible liquids to form a barrier between burning liquid and oxygen, generally has no cooling effect. Since the foam-forming agents are mixed in considerable amounts of approx. 4% by weight and they are water-endangering, the use of foam formers generally means an environmental hazard.
- Flow accelerators have only one effect, namely to increase the throw of the water jet by reducing the frictional resistance in pipes, lines and hoses. The quenching effect itself is not increased by flow accelerators. As far as is known, flow accelerators have only been used for fire services for test purposes.
- the area of application for wetting agents is limited, for example to fires in coal piles, in order to reduce the surface tension of the water and thus allow the water to penetrate into deeper layers of the coal piles.
- the object of the invention is to provide an extinguishing agent which can be used equally as a dry extinguishing agent and as an extinguishing agent additive in water and which does not or at least largely does not have the disadvantages of known extinguishing agents or extinguishing agent additives.
- suitable processes are to be proposed for producing the extinguishing agent.
- the powdery, hydrogel-forming polymers provide which are known as "superabsorbers", primarily for the transport of water.
- the invention makes use of the enormous swelling capacity of such superabsorbers.
- the water consumption remains comparatively low because the practically bound water cannot flow away and therefore remains to a large extent at the source of the fire and there can develop its advantageous effects described at the beginning over longer periods of time. This also results in less water damage.
- the extinguishing agent forms a salty, dry crust on the extinguished and on the surfaces to be protected against inflammation, which makes re-ignition difficult. This crust can still have a certain swelling capacity, so that water or precipitation can reactivate the extinguishing agent.
- the substances with a large surface structure and / or capillary and / or fibrous structure are stored after mixing with the superabsorber between the superabsorbent grains and, if necessary, fixed there by adding, for example, polyethylene glycol.
- water is quickly and completely distributed despite the swelling of the superabsorbent grains into gel particles and reaches all the superabsorbent grains through the capillary or fiber structures and causes them to swell evenly quickly.
- This effect speeds up the swelling behavior of the super absorber many times and prevents clumping.
- the substances mentioned prevent the gel mass from sticking even after the superabsorbent swells, even after prolonged storage or strong shocks. Since sticking is prevented, the wet extinguishing agent can be conveyed and distributed without clumping. After application, the gel particles can fall apart, which significantly improves the effectiveness of the water.
- the mixing of the extinguishing agent additive with water in a proportioner or jet pipe can be switched on or off, depending on the requirements of the extinguishing effect, without there being a risk of valve blockage. Rather, the devices can be rinsed with water and are immediately ready for use again. In practice, fewer extinguishing agents are used with a shorter extinguishing time. In addition, there is of course much less contaminated fire water.
- the extinguishing agent according to the invention hits a hot surface, for example wood, in its use as an extinguishing agent additive in water, the water contained extracts the heat from this surface, whereby a cooling extinguishing effect occurs due to the evaporation of the water until the flames extinguish when the flash point is undershot.
- the aforementioned salt-like crust forms from the extinguishing agent, which, in conjunction with flame retardants according to claims 3 and 4, prevents embers remaining from re-igniting or quickly ignited by spark ignition attempts. Accordingly, two important physical effects come into play here, namely on the one hand the cooling effect of the water and on the other hand the anti-flame agents against reignition.
- colloidal solutions of sodium or potassium silicates have proven particularly suitable as flame retardants proven. But other commercially available flame retardants are also suitable.
- flame retardants or flame retardants By adding flame retardants or flame retardants, the ignition temperature of the extinguishing agent additive is approximately doubled, namely from approximately 440 ° to 900 ° C, without flame formation.
- the finely divided powdery mixture has an inhibitory effect in the flame pattern and slows down and ultimately interrupts the so-called chain reaction.
- the extinguishing agent according to the invention is specified qualitatively with regard to its main components.
- a preferred quantitative composition follows from claim 2.
- Preferred quantitative proportions of flame retardants and / or flame retardants can be seen from claim 4.
- the polymers used for the mixture are preferably crosslinked, hydrogel-forming polymers which are prepared by polymerizing acrylic acid amide and / or acrylic acid and / or a salt thereof in the presence of up to 2% by weight of bisacrylamidoacetic acid, trimethylolpropane triacrylate and / or tetraallyloxyethane.
- the substances used for the mixture of large surface structure and / or capillary and / or fibrous structure are preferably selected individually or in mixtures from the group consisting of diatomaceous earth, wood flour, paper fibers, fibrous or ground cellulose, fibrous or ground plastics, ground Foam plastics and amorphous hydrophobic silicon dioxide.
- an adhesive for example wallpaper paste, specified in claim 8 is intended to improve the adhesion of the extinguishing agent to solid surfaces in the wet extinguishing agent.
- a wetting agent according to claim 9 reduces the surface tension of the water, whereby its fluidity in the capillaries or fibers is improved.
- the use of a dye in the extinguishing agent has the advantage that it can be visually recognized whether and where extinguishing agent has already been used.
- Flow accelerators according to claim 11 reduce the flow resistance in pipes and hoses.
- the stabilizers specified in claim 12 for example in the form of a disinfectant such as hydrogen peroxide, prevent the water from rotting.
- the initiators a redox system consisting of 0.2 g of 2,2'-azobisamidinopropane dihydrochloride, dissolved in 2.5 g of water, 0.6 g of potassium peroxodisulfate, dissolved in 20 g of water, and the initiators were at a temperature of 8 to 10 ° C. 0.05 g of ascorbic acid, dissolved in 10 g of water, added in succession and stirred well. Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an extinguishing agent for use as a dry extinguishing agent or extinguishing agent additive in water and also includes methods for producing the extinguishing agent.
The most common extinguishing agent is water. Water has a number of advantages for this purpose. This means that 1700 liters of water vapor are generated from one liter of water, which displaces the oxygen required for burning at the fire site. Finally, water can easily be pumped to the fire with the help of simple devices such as pumps, pipes, etc., if a hydrant or a water reservoir is available in the vicinity of the source of the fire.
In addition to these undeniable advantages, water has a number of disadvantages when it comes to extinguishing.
The consequential damage that usually occurs when using extinguishing water is also rightly feared, which further increases the fire damage. In the case of room or apartment fires, water damage to furniture, walls, ceilings, and electrical equipment is always to be expected. In the event of fires in industrial or agricultural warehouses, large quantities of the stored products are usually unusable due to extinguishing water. The stored products also contaminate the extinguishing water and increase the environmental damage caused by the extinguishing water. In the case of wildfires in the forest, there is usually not enough water available because this has to be carried over longer distances, for example via hose lines that have to be laid first or through water tanks that can be brought up, but which only have a limited content, such as e.g. is the case with fire-fighting vehicles and the helicopters and aircraft used for fire fighting.
There has been no lack of efforts to improve the water-based extinguishing technology. First of all, fire fighters always try to use water sparingly and in a targeted manner. This will be different Jet pipes used such as multi-purpose jet pipes, mist nozzles, etc. In addition, high-performance pumps with delivery pressures above 100 bar are used. Sprinkler systems and flooding systems with special water nozzles should also optimize water use. After all, water additives such as foaming agents, flow accelerators and wetting agents are already in use. Polymeric superabsorbents have also already been added to the extinguishing water.
However, these known methods for optimizing the use of water when extinguishing also have considerable disadvantages and cannot fundamentally eliminate the disadvantages of water as the extinguishing medium which have been mentioned above.
For example, water mixed with a foaming agent, as is used in combustible liquids to form a barrier between burning liquid and oxygen, generally has no cooling effect. Since the foam-forming agents are mixed in considerable amounts of approx. 4% by weight and they are water-endangering, the use of foam formers generally means an environmental hazard.
Flow accelerators have only one effect, namely to increase the throw of the water jet by reducing the frictional resistance in pipes, lines and hoses. The quenching effect itself is not increased by flow accelerators. As far as is known, flow accelerators have only been used for fire services for test purposes.
The area of application for wetting agents is limited, for example to fires in coal piles, in order to reduce the surface tension of the water and thus allow the water to penetrate into deeper layers of the coal piles.
The tests with polymeric superabsorbents as fire extinguishing water additive have not yielded any useful results or have failed. First and foremost, the lump formation in the pipes and after they emerge from the pipes and thus a considerable susceptibility to malfunction during use, which can lead to inoperability, should be mentioned. The lump formation also significantly reduces the throw distance compared to pure water. In addition, because of the gel formation with water, superabsorbers tend to delay the swelling of the total amount of superabsorber used, which on the one hand promotes lump formation and on the other hand leads to considerable additional consumption. Since superabsorbents are not soluble in water, the fittings used may become sticky and unusable. Due to the uneven swelling behavior, delivery with normal fire-fighting centrifugal pumps is excluded. For all of these reasons, this known method has not gone beyond the experimental stage.
The object of the invention is to provide an extinguishing agent which can be used equally as a dry extinguishing agent and as an extinguishing agent additive in water and which does not or at least largely does not have the disadvantages of known extinguishing agents or extinguishing agent additives. In addition, suitable processes are to be proposed for producing the extinguishing agent.
The object is achieved by the extinguishing agent specified in claim 1. Advantageous compositions of the extinguishing agent and developments of the invention are specified in subclaims 2 to 12. Particularly suitable production methods result from claims 13 to 16. Claims 17 to 20 illustrate preferred uses of the extinguishing agent.
In the particular composition of the extinguishing agent according to the invention, the powdery, hydrogel-forming polymers provide which are known as "superabsorbers", primarily for the transport of water. The invention makes use of the enormous swelling capacity of such superabsorbers. The water consumption remains comparatively low because the practically bound water cannot flow away and therefore remains to a large extent at the source of the fire and there can develop its advantageous effects described at the beginning over longer periods of time. This also results in less water damage. In addition, the extinguishing agent forms a salty, dry crust on the extinguished and on the surfaces to be protected against inflammation, which makes re-ignition difficult. This crust can still have a certain swelling capacity, so that water or precipitation can reactivate the extinguishing agent.
The substances with a large surface structure and / or capillary and / or fibrous structure are stored after mixing with the superabsorber between the superabsorbent grains and, if necessary, fixed there by adding, for example, polyethylene glycol. In this way, water is quickly and completely distributed despite the swelling of the superabsorbent grains into gel particles and reaches all the superabsorbent grains through the capillary or fiber structures and causes them to swell evenly quickly. This effect speeds up the swelling behavior of the super absorber many times and prevents clumping. The substances mentioned prevent the gel mass from sticking even after the superabsorbent swells, even after prolonged storage or strong shocks. Since sticking is prevented, the wet extinguishing agent can be conveyed and distributed without clumping. After application, the gel particles can fall apart, which significantly improves the effectiveness of the water.
Außerdem fällt natürlich wesentlich weniger kontaminiertes Löschwasser an.If, for example, 1000 liters of water are mixed with 10 kg of the extinguishing agent without mechanical aids, the 1000 liters of water have become a homogeneous, gel-like mass after about 2 to 5 minutes. If this mass is transported to the source of the fire and poured out by opening the extinguishing flaps, this mass changes into finely divided gel particles that spread an even layer on e.g. Form trees, shrubs and grasses. No lumps are formed here. The extinguishing effect is excellent. Pump premixing of the new extinguishing agent is possible without the fittings becoming dirty, sticking and finally becoming unusable, even if the extinguishing process is briefly stopped. The mixing of the extinguishing agent additive with water in a proportioner or jet pipe can be switched on or off, depending on the requirements of the extinguishing effect, without there being a risk of valve blockage. Rather, the devices can be rinsed with water and are immediately ready for use again. In practice, fewer extinguishing agents are used with a shorter extinguishing time. In addition, there is of course much less contaminated fire water.
If the extinguishing agent according to the invention hits a hot surface, for example wood, in its use as an extinguishing agent additive in water, the water contained extracts the heat from this surface, whereby a cooling extinguishing effect occurs due to the evaporation of the water until the flames extinguish when the flash point is undershot. In the area where the water has evaporated, the aforementioned salt-like crust forms from the extinguishing agent, which, in conjunction with flame retardants according to claims 3 and 4, prevents embers remaining from re-igniting or quickly ignited by spark ignition attempts. Accordingly, two important physical effects come into play here, namely on the one hand the cooling effect of the water and on the other hand the anti-flame agents against reignition. Colloidal solutions of sodium or potassium silicates have proven particularly suitable as flame retardants proven. But other commercially available flame retardants are also suitable. By adding flame retardants or flame retardants, the ignition temperature of the extinguishing agent additive is approximately doubled, namely from approximately 440 ° to 900 ° C, without flame formation.
When using the extinguishing agent as a dry extinguishing agent, it has been shown that the finely divided powdery mixture has an inhibitory effect in the flame pattern and slows down and ultimately interrupts the so-called chain reaction.
