Definitions
- the invention relates to personal protective equipment (PPE), and in particular gloves for handling finished products or during manufacture.
- PPE personal protective equipment
- Personal protective equipment including gloves used to handle objects, industrial or not, are currently made by coating rubber or plastics (PVC for example) on a flexible textile substrate.
- PVC rubber or plastics
- the main disadvantages are that they do not provide a good grip of wet or lubricated products, due to insufficient adhesion, that the agility and precision of the movements of the hand are considerably limited, that they are not satisfactory when the parts are at a high temperature and they present a high risk of cuts and pitting.
- the invention overcomes these drawbacks by providing personal protective equipment, and in particular protective gloves, comprising a protective protective ceramic and / or metallic coating on a flexible textile substrate, or the like.
- the protective outer coating may consist of a single layer of ceramic or metal, or any combination of several such layers, and in particular, preferably, a first metal layer covered with a second ceramic layer.
- the protective external coating has been formed by hot spraying of ceramics or metals, in the form of powders, onto natural or synthetic textile substrates, a technique for which several methods of production are available.
- Ni-Cr alloys and aluminum being particularly suitable.
- the thickness of the coating can be adjusted according to the particular applications for which the product is intended, but an excessively large thickness affects the flexibility of the final product. In general, a thickness of 20 to 200 ⁇ m will be used.
- Hot spray coatings are obtained by high speed crushing of droplets melted on a substrate.
- the adhesion of the coating is obtained by mechanical attachment.
- the process is carried out in a protected environment, by means of robotic movements of the plasma torch, with digital control, making it possible to obtain perfectly uniform thicknesses.
- the method consists in evaporating the ceramic or metallic powder, of controlled particle size, in a gaseous plasma, and in projecting the droplets of condensation at high speed onto the substrate. By adjusting the various parameters of the projection, and in particular the movements of the robot, in each case, a layer of desired uniform thickness is deposited.
- the substrate must withstand temperatures above 100 ° C without altering its physico-chemical characteristics
- protective gloves have been produced according to technique b).
- an Al2-O3 - TiO2 ceramic coating was deposited, one at a thickness of 100 ⁇ m and the other at a thickness of 150 ⁇ m.
- the invention is of course not limited to protective gloves only, and can be applied to any personal protective equipment for high temperatures, which must also have good mechanical resistance.

Abstract
