Es sind Flachpaletten bekannt, an deren Schmalseiten je ein aufrechtstehender Bügel befestigt ist. Bei anderen Paletten ist an den vier Ecken eines rechteckigen Basisteils je ein aufrechter Pfosten befestigt, der auch als Runge bezeichnet wird und von einem Winkelprofil aus Stahl gebildet ist. Auf solchen Paletten lassen sich Gegenstände in mehreren Schichten oder Lagen, die durch Zwischenböden voneinander getrennt sind, anordnen. Beispielsweise sind zum Transportieren von in drei Lagen übereinander aufrechtstehend angeordneten Trommelbremsen insgesamt vier profilierte Zwischenböden vorgesehen, die sich für den Rücktransport zu einem Stapel von 60 mm Gesamthöhe zusammenfügen lassen.
