- the article of manufacture is endowed with a very tight dimensional tolerance, of the order of a few tenths of a millimeter per article, thanks to the shell.
- the shell is used only once. Therefore, the shell of this invention is not subject to the continuous wear and deformations affecting the conventional moulds and the dimentional differences in the balancing masses of this invention are negligeble.
- the shell of this invention acts as a protective envelope capable of preserving the solid mass contained therein from cracking, crumbling, breaking, and also improves the appearance of the article of manufacture. Most importantly, even when an article of manufacture of this invention crumbles, the envelope holds the crumbled material, thus maintaining unchanged its weight.
- the production process is particularly effective and flexible, because it involves a reduced number of very simple steps. In fact it does not require the steps of equipping the moulds with stiffening elements, dismantling the moulds for extracting the balancing masses and of finishing the surface thereof which are required by the conventional processes.
- changes in shape and dimensions of the articles of manufacture can be made at low cost, because, to produce shells with a new shape, it is sufficient to change only the master mould while, in the conventional methods, in addition to changing the master mould, it is also necessary to replace all the moulds used in the production of balancing masses made of conglomerate or the like.

- the shell 2 has an opening 4, clearly visible in Fig. 3, and stiffening elements 5, fastened to its walls 6 and incorporated in the body 3.
- the shell 2 has grooves 7 and holes 8 capable of housing nuts, not shown, that allow the article of manufacture 1 to be fastened to a machine that needs such a balancing mass.
- the shell 2 is made of a material capable of forming an envelope for the body 3.
- it is made of a plastic material, for example a polyolefin such as polyethylene and PVC, and is obtained by blowing.
- the walls 6 of the shell 2 have a thickness of from 0.5 to 2 mm and their strength can be increased by means of ribs, corrugations and the like.

- the composition is preferably formed by a conglomerate comprising inert and binder materials.
- the starting mixture consists of inert materials such as, for instance, sand, fine gravel, metal scalings, of an enhanced cement binder and water.

- a suitable non-cement conglomerate will, for example, include the same inert materials as the cement conglomerate but the binder will consist of resins or organic bonding agents.
- the specific gravity value of the body 3 may very depending on the ratios of the various components in the composition, so that balancing masses having different weights can be formed for the very same volume of the shell 2, in accordance with the needs.
- the starting composition in the fluid state is cast inside the shell 2 through the opening 4, while shaking the shell 2 to compact the composition inside it.
- the composition is then allowed to solidify inside the shell 2, so that the solid body 3 is enveloped by the shell 2 and the article of manufacture 1 is thus obtained in the finished state.
- the article of manufacture 10 comprises a shell 2, substantially in the form of a parallelepiped, with one wall 6 partially arched.
