Abstract

The invention relates to a plug with a butting and a butt contact strip and at least one L-shaped fixed contact in the butting contact strip made of electrically conductive sheet metal having a connection point on a first leg of the L and a contact surface on a second leg. The contact surface of the fixed contact, with the butt and butting contact strips in the plugged-in position, bears on the appropriate contact surface of a counter-contact in the butt contact strip. In addition, the contact surface of the fixed contact is inclined at an angle to the plug-in direction of the butt and butting contact strips and the tangent of the angle of inclination is greater than the coefficient of friction between the fixed and counter-contacts. It is purpose of the invention to develop a simplified and economical design for the casing, especially of the fixed contacts for a plug of the type described in the preamble with good relative movement during the plug-in process. This purpose is achieved in that the angle of inclination is in a plane formed by the two legs of the L of the sheet-metal strip and the electrically conductive strip has an attachment contiguous with the second leg of the L and bent back in the direction of the first leg which has a tab engaging in an undercut in a contact support of the casing and the first leg of the L-shaped strip has a spring detent projecting transversely to the first leg, the strip being connected onto the contact support between the spring detent and the tab to surround the latter.

Description

The invention relates to a connector with a pressure contact strip and a front contact strip and with at least one L-shaped bent contact in the plug contact strip made of an electrically conductive sheet metal strip, which has a connection point on a first L-leg and a contact surface on a second L-leg forms, the contact surface of the fixed contact in the inserted state of the pressure contact strip and the front contact strip abutting an associated contact surface of a mating contact in the pressure contact strip, the contact surface of the fixed contact also being inclined at an angle to the direction of insertion of the pressure contact strip and the front contact strip and the tangent of the angle of inclination being greater than the coefficient of friction between fixed contact and counter contact.

Connectors of this type are known from DE-U-89 04 676. There is a fixed contact made of an L-shaped sheet metal strip. The second L-leg forms a contact surface and is additionally inclined by an angle which is oriented perpendicular to the 90 ° angle between the two L-legs. The fixed contacts are embedded with their first L-leg in a contact carrier in such a way that connection points protrude on one side of the contact carrier and that on the other side the second L-leg remains outside the contact carrier. The contact surface inclined by the angle represents a slideway for a pressure contact springing in during the plug-in process. The angle is chosen so that optimized sliding conditions for the pressure contact are achieved. The sliding movement of the Pressure contact along the contact surface of the fixed contact causes the surfaces to be cleaned in order to ensure a better conductive contact transition. A disadvantage of this connector is that the L-leg forming the contact surface is produced by bending the sheet metal strips twice in different directions, and the use of roll-clad sheet metal is thereby required.

Furthermore, the fixed contacts on the contact surface must have a certain width. The metal strips must therefore be wider overall, or the excess width on the first L-leg is removed by punching, which leads to material loss.

The assembly of the fixed contacts in the front contact strip is made more difficult by the fact that the fixed contacts have to be threaded into the contact carrier, which can only be done from one side with a previously bent contact surface. This version is very production-intensive and causes a relatively high expense.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to develop a simplified and inexpensive concept for the socket, in particular the fixed contacts, for a plug connector of the type mentioned at the outset, while the relative movement continues to be good during the plug-in process.

This object is achieved in that the angle of inclination lies in a plane which is formed by the two L-legs of the sheet metal strip, and in that the electrically conductive sheet metal strip adjoins the second L-leg and in the direction of the first L-leg has a bent-back extension which is provided with a nose which engages in an undercut of a contact carrier of the front contact strip, and that the first L-leg of the sheet metal strip has a spring catch which projects transversely to the first L-leg, the sheet metal strip being clamped onto the contact carrier between the spring catch and the nose.

Auch kann die Breite der Blechstreifen minimiert werden, denn sie hängt nicht von der Relativbewegung zwischen den Kontakten ab.Characterized in that the angle of inclination of the contact surface lies in the plane which is formed by the two L-legs of the sheet metal strip, the fixed contact is made by bending perpendicular to the longitudinal extension of the sheet metal strip. The use of roll clad material is no longer required. In addition, the pressure contacts slide in the direction of the longitudinal extent of the metal strips on the contact surface. The contact area can thus be extended as desired without the insulation gap between the sheet metal strips being too small. The width of the metal strips can also be minimized because it does not depend on the relative movement between the contacts.

A great simplification for the assembly of the fixed contact on the contact carrier is that the sheet metal strip can be clamped onto the contact carrier. The right-angled approach and the bead at its end can be produced together with the two L-legs by a bending process in one plane, which simplifies the production. When mounting the fixed contact, the sheet metal strip is hooked into the undercut on the contact carrier with the nose and then pressed into the guideway, the spring catch snapping onto an edge of the contact carrier. The fixed contact is thus positioned in the simplest way. The spring catch is preferably formed by a U-shaped punching in the first L-leg, the web enclosed by the U-shape protruding transversely to the first L-leg. The spring catch is thus simplified made from part of the first L-leg.

The front contact strip is preferably provided with a plurality of fixed contacts which are arranged in parallel on the contact carrier in guideways and isolated from one another by partition walls. As a result, the sheet metal strips can be connected to one another at their connection points, which are likewise made in one piece with them, by a holding strip. During production, several fixed contacts can now be made from a sheet metal strip. The holding strip then offers good positioning options and therefore precise manufacture. A major advantage of the retaining strip is that you can now clamp all the fixed contacts protruding from it on the contact carrier at once. With the same hand or machine handle as for a fixed contact, all fixed contacts can now be arranged on the contact carrier in the same time. The holding strip is then simply cut off at the connection points. The clamping force of the fixed contacts on the contact carrier is dimensioned such that the separation of the holding strips has no influence on the holding of the sheet metal strips.

It is preferred if the fixed contacts are clamped onto the contact carrier with a slight bias. The pretension is achieved in that the fixed contacts in the area of the apex of their L-angle do not lie against the base of the guideway and are elastically deformable there. When mounting the fixed contacts, a clamping force is applied in the direction of the first L-bar. The elastic spring effect of the fixed contact also compensates for larger manufacturing tolerances.

The contact carrier of the front contact strip is preferably made in one piece from plastic. This design saves costs and manufacturing effort.

The use of spring-loaded pressure contacts as counter contacts has a great advantage. The spring travel can then be selected so that the best possible sliding conditions from the mating contact are present on the contact surfaces of the fixed contacts. Pressure contact strips with a wide variety of spring systems can be used, which has the additional advantage that a pressure contact strip can also be replaced by a variant with a different spring system.

To improve the contact transition, the electrically conductive metal strips are additionally provided with a gold layer by electrolytic deposition.

The connection points of the fixed contacts preferably protrude on the contact carrier and are designed as solder connections. By clamping the fixed contacts on the contact carrier, the metal strips are excellently positioned for the soldering process.

It is particularly favorable if the connection points of the fixed contacts are designed as solderable pressure contacts. The connection points can then either be soldered or used as pure pressure contacts.

The front contact strip 1 has a contact carrier 6 made in one piece from plastic. The contact carrier 6 is an elongated body which has 7 assembly eyes at its ends in order to fasten the front contact strip 1 to a base plate with the aid of connecting elements. For precise positioning on the base plate, guide pins 8 are arranged on the contact carrier 6. Legs 9, which run at right angles, are arranged on the contact carrier 6 free ends protrude in the same direction as the guide pins 8 on the contact carrier 6 and are provided with locking elements 10. A printed circuit board 11, which has corresponding insertion openings for the latching elements 10 and the guide pin 8, is plugged into the front contact strip 1. In the front contact strip 1 there are receiving bores 12 and 13 which receive corresponding centering pins 14 and 15 of the pressure contact strip 3 when plugged in. On one side, the contact carrier 6 has a material accumulation 17 which can be used to receive a coaxial plug connection by means of a stepped bore 16. The middle part of the front contact strip 1 is provided with guide tracks 18, some of which run along the circumference of the contact carrier 6 and are delimited from one another by separating webs 19. The number of guideways 18 corresponds to the number of fixed contacts 2 in the front contact strip 1 and the number of mating contacts in the pressure contact strip 3. Electrically conductive sheet metal strips 20, which form the fixed contacts 2, are hooked into the guideways 18.

The fixed contacts 2 consist of an approximately L-shaped sheet metal strip 20, which has a curved connection point C in the form of a soldering tongue 21 on a first L-leg 24 and is provided with a U-shaped punching 22 approximately in the middle. A web, which remains in the middle of the sheet metal strip 20 due to the U-shaped punching 22, is bent as a spring catch 23 at an angle transverse to the first L-leg 24. A second L-leg 25, the outward-facing surface of which represents the contact surface B, is provided at its free end with a projection 26 bent back approximately at a right angle. The extension 26 has at its end a nose 27 which engages in an undercut 28 on the contact carrier 6. The fixed contacts 2 are largely due to the Guideways 18 and are clamped onto the plug contact strip 1 with the spring catches 23, which are supported on a contact carrier edge 34. In the area of the apex of the L-angle α, the guideways 18 are provided with a different inclination than the fixed contacts 2. This creates a cavity 29 between sheet metal strips 20 and the bottom of the guideway 18.

The first L-leg 24 protrudes with the connection point C over the contact carrier edge 34. Soldering tongues 21 of the connection points C sit on corresponding conductor track contacts of the printed circuit board 11 and are soldered to them. If the circuit board 11 is clamped between the base plate and the front contact strip 1, the connection points C can only be pressed onto the conductor track contacts of the circuit board 11 to make contact.

The pressure contact strip 3 has a thickening 30 on one side, which can accommodate a coaxial connector by means of a stepped bore 16. When plugged in, the thickening 30 of the plug 3 and the material accumulation 17 of the plug contact strip 1 face each other, so that the bores 16 are aligned with one another.

The operation and functioning of a connector according to the invention will now be explained below.

The mounting of the fixed contacts 2 is considerably simplified by a holding strip 31. This holding strip 31 is connected in one piece to the connection points C of the fixed contacts 2. The fixed contacts 2 are then arranged parallel to each other from the holding strip 31, which are provided with recesses 32 and pilot holes 33 in extensions of each fixed contact 2. The manufacture of the fixed contacts 2 through the pilot holes 33, which are used for positioning during the stamping and bending process, considerably simplified. In each case, as many fixed contacts 2 are made from a wide sheet metal strip and left with a holding strip 31 as are required for a plug contact strip 1. All fixed contacts 2 are hooked together in a hand or machine handle with the lugs 27 into the undercuts 28 and pressed into the guideways 18 so that the spring catches 23 snap onto the contact carrier edge 34.

The elastic resilience of the fixed contact 2 proves to be advantageous due to the lack of contact with the guideway 18 in the region of the cavity 29. In addition, a preload can also be applied to the fixed contacts 2, which causes a greater clamping effect. The holding strip 31 also serves as a mounting bar when the fixed contacts 2 are inserted. Then the holding strip 31 can be separated without the fixed contacts 2 becoming loose. The cut-off 32 makes it easy to separate the holding strip 31.

Before the pressure contact strip 3 and the front contact strip 1 are plugged together, the pressure contacts 4 are fully extended and protrude in the direction of insertion D of the pressure contact strip 3.

As soon as the pressure contact strip 3 is inserted into the front contact strip 1 in the plug-in direction D, the contact surfaces of the pressure contacts 4 and the contact surface B of the fixed contacts 2 touch, and the spring-loaded pressure contacts 4 begin to compress.

The pressure contact strip 3 is guided in this process with its centering pins 14 and 15 in the receiving bores 12 and 13 in a straight line in the plug-in direction D. Of the Pressure contact 4 deflects at an angle to the plug-in direction D and must therefore additionally carry out a transverse movement which causes the contact surface A to slide along the contact surface B. The contact surface B of the fixed contact 2 is inclined at an angle β to the direction of insertion D. The angle β is chosen so that the sliding along is favored. So that in addition to the cleaning sliding along the contact surface A on the contact surface B the contact transition is improved, both the fixed contact 2 and the pressure contact 4 are provided with a gold layer.

It is not absolutely necessary to design the spring-supported pressure contacts 4 as a stamped and bent part. In embodiments with spring-supported and cylindrical bores made pressure contacts, care must be taken that the sliding movement then mostly takes place in the plug-in direction D.

The front contact strip 1 is suitable for different variants of pressure contact strips. Different pressure contact systems and / or fixed contacts can be used in the respective variant. The front contact strip 1 is then to be adapted to the geometry of the pressure contact variant.
