Abstract

The invention relates to a foil (1) as a dressing for a back pressure cylinder (9) of a sheet-fed offset rotary perfecting press, which dressing consists of a non-resilient, chemically resistant and wear-resistant substrate layer with good ink transfer characteristics and with a surface with a ball-shaped structure with statistically evenly distributed convex (2) and concave (6) structure elements and of a chromium layer which is located on said structure elements, forms the sheet-conveying outer surface of the back pressure cylinder and reduces the micro-roughness, the sheet being supported on the poles (4) of the convex (2) structure elements. These convex (2) structure elements have an oval shape (7) with a radius of curvature which increases from the pole (4) to the transition (5) into the concave (6) structure elements. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a film as an elevator for an impression cylinder of an offset sheet-fed rotary printing machine for perfecting and printing, according to the preamble of patent claim 1.

Such a film is known from EP 0 017 776 B1. According to this, nickel, chromium-nickel steel or a plastic with a high modulus of elasticity is provided as the carrier layer, and a chromium layer which compensates for the micro-roughness is located on this carrier layer. The carrier layer has a surface, known from DE 24 46 188 C3, of statistically uniform, but irregularly distributed, convex and concave structural elements, the concave structural elements being designed in the form of spherical caps, so that the arc is supported on the poles of these spherical caps. With such a film, which is drawn onto the impression cylinder - frequently referred to as anti-lubrication film - the ink release behavior of the sheet surface of the impression cylinder guiding the sheet is considerably improved compared to previously known designs. The film not only prevents smear marks in face printing after the sheet is turned, but also improves the print quality of the reverse printing. In connection with the material of the carrier layer, the improvement was essentially attributed to the formation of the surfaces supporting the bow as a spherical cap, because the spherical shape encourages the removal of the assumed color. The chrome plating of the film already leads to good ink release behavior in the start-up time and is also easier to wash than the initially somewhat rougher carrier layer. The very hard chrome layer extends the life of the sheet guiding the sheet, so that practically also the good Color release behavior of the film is preserved over its life.

Other suggestions for improving the ink delivery behavior of a printing cylinder of an offset sheet-fed rotary printing machine for face and reverse printing have not been able to achieve the result of the film according to EP 0 017 776 B1. It is known from DE 28 20 549 A1 to apply a thin nickel layer with a hard nickel coating to the sandblasted surface of a support layer made of aluminum or copper. Instead of this nickel layer, a chrome layer should be applied according to DE 12 58 873 B1. However, an effect which improves the ink release behavior lags behind the effect of a film according to EP 0 017 776 B1.

From a company publication entitled "The cylinder lift is being reformed" by Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co. GmbH., Duesseldorf, Immermannstrasse 40, is a cover sheet for the impression cylinder of a web printing press made of a strong hemp paper base with a synthetic resin coating and a microscopic powder contained therein known small glass balls. With this arrangement, in the case of printing webs in face and back printing, also by means of a surface structure made of spherical caps, an attempt is made to approximate the results of using a film according to EP 0 017 776 B1.

From FR-A-2 283 995 an arc-guiding foil made of nickel is known as an elevator for the impression cylinder of rotary printing presses for perfecting, one surface of which is smooth and the opposite surface of which is provided with statistically uniformly distributed, equally high spherical caps. This metal foil is made from nickel using a galvanic impression process using a negative mold.

The first foils molded in such a negative form are relatively smooth. However, the more foils that are produced, the more micro-roughness occurs on the structured surface. On the other hand, it was observed that such films showed reduced ink release behavior after start-up in the start-up phase. The optimal ink delivery behavior was only achieved after long use of the elevator in the machine.

It is an object of the invention to achieve an improvement in the printing properties of a film according to the preamble with regard to an increase in the quality of the printing result in perfecting, especially in multi-color printing and in printing with a small grid size, while maintaining all previously known advantages.

The invention solves this problem by means of the training features according to claim 1.

This achieves a significant advantage in the ink release behavior, which leads to a clearly visible improvement in the quality of the print, especially with matt papers, thinner papers and with smaller: rasters in the range of 80 - 100 lines per cm. The new design enables a closer support point distance with the same counter pressure surface, so that the specific pressure per tip is reduced. By grinding the film on the back, very precise thicknesses can be achieved within extremely narrow tolerance limits, so that the film is particularly suitable for double-size printing cylinders in perfecting without drying.

A clearly noticeable increase in the quality of the printed image in face and reverse printing and in today's eight-color printing presses in use 4/4 can be seen in Achieve connection with a common fine adjustment of the pressure in the printing nip via an electronic computer control after the sheet is turned depending on the paper quality and the printing form.

What is essential for the advantages is the contour of the convex structural elements which approximates the tip shape of a chicken egg or the like, all of which are at the same height and result in a targeted and differentiated color-giving behavior. The possibility of arranging the support points with greater density than before is advantageous, so that the support points are narrower than with spherical cap shapes and can be worked with a lower surface pressure with the same counter pressure surface.

A special form of realizing the features of the invention accordingly also provides that the convex elements of the spherical structure have the shape of an ice tip in the optical enlargement.

In any case, those of films made from a carrier layer made of e.g. Known and used advantages of nickel and a chrome layer, in particular the interchangeability of the film, in order to carry out a pre-adjustment to the paper quality to be printed and the printing form by selecting the film, for example different thicknesses or different nub structure, and also the option of an exchange for one A film of a conventional type is retained, for example a film exchange for orders in a changed print pattern, for example up to 120 lines per cm.

The use of a film corresponding to the print order with regard to the structure can, if appropriate, be achieved particularly effectively in a rapid exchange using an automatic film changing device.

The mold for the galvanic molding of the surface structure or the film according to the invention can be produced by means of galvanic techniques by etching or else by laser engraving. The manufacturing process of the film is not influenced by the features of the invention.

The sheet 1 guiding or supporting the sheet on the circumference of the impression cylinder of a printing press is made of nickel, chromium-nickel steel or plastic. It has a thickness of approximately 0.2 to 0.4 mm. The surface of the film 1 is composed of statistically uniformly distributed convex and concave structural elements, the convex structural elements 2 being designed as domes which are approximately at the same height with their poles. On these poles of the tops 2, the arch is supported on the impression cylinder. The Height of the dome 2 compared to the concave structure is about 0.03 to 0.04 mm. On the left edge of the picture in FIG. 1, the color splitting is symbolically illustrated when the sheet is lifted off a crest 2. The circles 3 shown in FIG. 1 illustrate the shape of spherical caps of known designs, in order thereby to emphasize the differences between the design according to the invention and the prior art. The convex structural elements 2 according to the invention allow a larger space for receiving color than the known spherical caps. This favorable space distribution also favors the removal of deposited paint, ie the film is easier and faster to wash.

The convex structural elements 2 have an oval shape, in which the radius of curvature from the pole 4 to the transition 5 into the concave structural elements 6 increases continuously. In a special embodiment, this results in the shape of the tip of an egg 7, which is only shown for clarity in FIG. 2, in particular a chicken egg, the greatest length of which is determined by the tip of the pole 4 and the rear side 8 of the film. It follows from this that the radius of curvature of the convex structural elements, which are determined by the ice tip, increases continuously from the pole to the transition into the concave structural elements 6.

In this arrangement, too, the tips of the poles 4 of the convex structural elements 2 are at the same height. The latter are distributed statistically as uniformly as possible, albeit irregularly, in a known manner. In a preferred embodiment, the convex structural elements 2 merge directly into the concave structural elements 6, so that the convex structural elements 2 are narrower than in the known arrangement according to FIG. 1 The resulting, relatively close arrangement of the convex structural elements is shown in FIG. 3. In contrast to the previous view that a spherical shape favors the color splitting when the sheet is detached from the impression cylinder, it was found that the oval shape according to the invention, with a radius of curvature of the convex structural elements that is becoming smaller and smaller towards the pole tip, results in a significant improvement in the color splitting, that brings about a noticeable improvement in print quality. Due to the smaller wing area of the crests 2 compared to the spherical caps, the color guidance is also reduced, so that the subsequent sheet has to remove less color. The color transfer is safer.

The sheet 13 printed in face printing in the printing nip between the blanket cylinder 11 and a double-sized counter-pressure cylinder 12 is fed to the storage cylinder 10 by the transfer cylinder 14 and then transported in the printing nip between the blanket cylinder 16 and the counter-pressure cylinder 9 through the turning cylinder 15.
