Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a device for triggering the firing of a firearm, and more generally of any infantry firearm whose aim is ensured by a shooter.
  • Patent AU-B-444 844 describes a safety system intended to prohibit the firing of a weapon and thus reduce the possibilities of accident. For this, the percussion hammer is blocked when the presence of a target is detected by the combination of a detector carried by the weapon and a detector carried by the target. The shooting is authorized in the absence of detection.
  • Patent DE-A-2 939 239 describes a safety system preventing the firing of a usable weapon during exercise or competition shots. For this, a physical barrier is interposed to the introduction of ammunition into the weapon.
  • Patent US-A-4 370 914 describes a system for triggering the firing of a weapon according to the preamble of claim 1 and in which the shooter selects a position of the weapon and the shooting is triggered when the weapon passes by this position.
  • the object of the invention is to increase the probability of hitting a target by disregarding the human factor at the start of the shot, by triggering the fire by the thermal signature of the target.
  • the electronic triggering means can be associated with firing either by percussion, using an electromagnet connected to the striker of the weapon, or electric and directly controlling the firing of the ammunition.
  • the firing triggering device comprises a control bar actuated in translation on the one hand by the trigger of the weapon and on the other hand by the electromagnet, in the case of a setting fire by percussion.
  • the striker of the weapon is released by the control bar.
  • the infrared detector is preferably sensitive in the 8-12 ⁇ m range and is placed at the focal point of the telescope.
  • the electronic processing assembly comprises in particular an amplifier, a filter followed by a comparator, the signal delivered being characteristic of a type of preselected target.
  • the scope is fixed below the weapon and in front of the handle thereof.
  • the electronic processing assembly, the electronic triggering means and the means for supplying electrical energy are integrated into the body of the telescope opposite the entry window of said telescope.
  • the trigger is provided with two notches, the first notch allowing the activation of the electronic processing unit, the second notch allowing direct control of the firing of the weapon.
  • the main advantage of the invention lies in the fact that the device eliminates the human factor at the start of the shot because the shot is triggered by the thermal signature of the target. We then use the infrared characteristics of the targets. Thus, the infantryman is a relatively hot target compared to the ambient environment and the detection of the target makes it possible to automatically launch the shooting.
  • Another advantage lies in the fact that the normal firing of the weapon is not suppressed by the device according to the invention.
  • the weapon 1 shown in Figure 1 comprises in known manner a barrel 2 extended by a chamber 3 into which the ammunition 4 is introduced either automatically or manually by means not shown, an aiming support 5 mounted above the weapon and a handle 6 protecting the trigger 7.
  • a scope 8 is provided, for example of the "CASSEGRAIN" type having a field of 30 cm to 300 m.
  • This scope is fixed for example to the barrel 2 of the weapon by lugs 9 welded or flanges. It is arranged so that the axis of the barrel or axis of the shooting, the axis of sight and the optical axis of the telescope are simblotated.
  • the bezel 8 has an entrance window 10 carrying a concave mirror 11. This window placed at the entrance has no optical function and serves as protection for the internal elements, and as a means of fixing the mirror 11.
  • a second mirror concave 12 is fixed inside the body of the telescope with a diameter substantially equivalent to the internal diameter of said body.
  • the mirror 12 is provided in its center with an opening 13 receiving a sensitive infrared detector 14 in the 8-12 ⁇ m range.
  • a sensitive infrared detector 14 in the 8-12 ⁇ m range.
  • the base wall 16 of the telescope serves as a support for the other means of the device according to the invention.
  • the electrical energy supply means consist of at least one battery 17, the base of which bears on the wall 16 and which is held in place by a tongue 18 linked to a plate 19 which is itself secured to the wall 16.
  • an electronic assembly 20 and an electronic triggering means 21 are fixed.
  • the signal delivered by the means 21 is sent to a switch 22 secured to a support 23 fixed to the wall 16.
  • the firing is carried out by percussion.
  • the trigger 7 is connected to a control strip 24 which releases at one end, in a known manner and not shown, the striker of the weapon.
  • the bar 24 is extended at its end by a side wall 25 intended to cooperate with an electromagnet 26, also fixed on the wall 16.
  • the control rod 27 of the electromagnet subjected to the action of the spring 28, is engaged at one end on the side wall 25 and on the other, is integral with a rod 29 carrying at its free end a cam 30 engaged on the switch 22.
  • the electronic assembly 20 which essentially comprises the detector 14, a pre-amplifier 32, a filter 33, an amplifier 34 and a comparator 35 whose role is to deliver the control signal for setting fire.
  • the electronic triggering means 21 comprises a converter 36 for raising the DC voltage delivered by the battery 37, a capacitor 38 supplying the converter 36 and a triggering thyristor 39.
  • the operation is as follows: the shooter takes aim by sweeping the target laterally and operates the trigger 7 at the first notch. The system is then activated and the passage of the target in the field of the telescope 8 induces an electrical signal on the detector 14. This is sent by the conductors 31 to the electronic assembly 20 which, after processing, sends an order to the electromagnet 26 actuating via its rod 27 the bar 24. The latter then triggers the firing by releasing the striker from the weapon.
  • the weapon can fire either in burst, or piecemeal since these functions do not are not deleted.
  • the weapon can be used by a direct fire without waiting for the command by the detection, it is enough for that to fully depress the trigger while reaching the second notch.
  • a second switch (not shown) can be provided to deactivate the device according to the invention.
  • a variant of the invention can be easily adopted in the case where it is an electric firearm.
  • the electromagnet 26 and the switch 22 are removed and replaced by an electronic power circuit connected to the electronic means 21, which directly sends the firing signal to the proper electrical initiation system of the armed.
  • Another variant can be considered for night combat for example. It would then be interesting, given that the target is not visible, that the shooter retains control of the shot, but is warned by visual or audible means of the presence of a hot target. It suffices to add to the device a disconnection switch of the power circuit and for example a piezoelectric transducer which will give an audible signal.
