Definitions
- the present invention relates to a hinge with retaining notches for a door, in particular of a motor vehicle, comprising a fixed part, a movable part fixed to the door and articulated to the fixed part by means of a pin so as to pivot with the door around the axis of the pin and a notch retaining mechanism which is associated with said parts of the hinge and provided with elastic means forming at least one retaining notch to maintain the door in a corresponding open position.
- Hinges of this kind are well known and are generally apparent between the door of a vehicle and the part of the body surrounding the door. These known hinges are absolutely not protected from external elements and they are mechanically integral with the other parts of the hinge. As they must be lubricated, they also present the risk of dirtying the clothes of users entering and leaving the vehicle.
- the object of the present invention is to remedy the drawbacks mentioned above of conventional hinges, by providing a hinge capable of fulfilling the same mechanical functions, but being sheltered from external influences.
- the invention provides a hinge of the type indicated above, characterized in that it comprises a housing containing the retaining mechanism and integral in rotation with a first of said parts and a support element integral in rotation with the second part and extending inside the housing so as to cooperate with said mechanism.
- the support element comprises a rear end provided with an axial bore fitted on the dowel and a front end cooperating with said mechanism.
- the rear end of the support element may have non-circular external surfaces and is axially fitted in a corresponding housing formed around the pin in the second part of the hinge.
- the front end of the support element is provided with a freely rotating roller, cooperating with notches of the retaining mechanism.
- the retaining mechanism comprises two notches formed by concave surfaces of a pivoting part with an axis parallel to the axis of the dowel, and at least one pair of springs biasing this part in opposite directions of rotation, so as to maintain said pivoting part in a central position when the roller is not in abutment against one of the notches.
- the retaining mechanism comprises a cam lever having an edge pressed against the roller and provided with notches and a pivoting part provided with a pusher supported against the opposite edge of the cam lever, the pivoting part being urged by said elastic means.
- the housing has a cover disposed transversely with respect to the axis of the dowel and ensuring a substantially sealed closure on the retaining mechanism.
- the housing is fixed to said fixed part of the hinge, and said support element is integral in rotation with said movable part.
- said movable part is placed between the fixed part and the housing.
- the housing may comprise two substantially parallel outer tabs, arranged on either side of said fixed part of the hinge and provided with at least one locking screw.
- FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic elevation view showing an automobile door hinge produced according to the invention
- FIG. 2 is a plan view of the hinge of FIG. 1,
- FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 2, after removing an upper cover from the hinge, to show a notch retaining mechanism
- FIG. 4 is a partial sectional view along line IV-IV of FIG. 2,
- FIG. 5 is a view in partial section along the line V-V of FIG. 3,
- FIG. 6 is a partial sectional view along line VI-VI of FIG. 3, and
- Figures 7 and 8 are * views similar to Figure 3 and show, in two different positions, another embodiment of the door retention mechanism.
- Figures 1 to 6 show a first embodiment of a hinge 10 to axis 1 vertical or inclined, to ensure, with a second hinge of the same axis, the articulation of a door 1 1 of a motor vehicle on a fixed part of the vehicle body, usually consisting of a part 12 called the body base.
- the hinge 10 comprises a movable part 13 composed of a tubular element called knuckle 13a and a hinge 13b fixed to the door 1 1, and a fixed part 1 composed of a knuckle 1 a and a hinge 14b fixed to the body 12, the movable part 13 resting on the fixed part 14 and being articulated to it by means of a cylindrical dowel 15 fixed to one of the two knuckles.
- the hinge is provided with a door stop device 16 making it possible to maintain the door in at least one open position.
- the device has two notches to define two open positions, as is usually the case, but this number is not limiting.
- the stop device 16 is housed in a housing 17 closed by an upper cover 18 and fixed to the fixed part 14 of the hinge by means of a screw 36.
- the housing 17 straddles the upper end of the pin 15, so that the movable knuckle 13a cannot lift and is surrounded by the fixed part 14 and the housing 17.
- a lever 19 is articulated by means of a bearing 20 in a bore 21 of the housing. As shown in Figure 4, this lever has a lower part provided with two opposite lateral flats 22 and 23 and fitted vertically in an upper part
- the lever 19 is provided with a vertical bore 19a which is fitted on an upper end 25 of the pin 15 and which thus centers the lever and its bearing on the pin and its axis 1.
- the lever 19 is driven by pressing on its flats 22 and 23 and it pivots in the same way.
- its free end provided with a freely rotating roller 26 on a stud 27 on the underside of the lever, cooperates with a notch retaining mechanism, housed inside the housing 17.
- the retaining mechanism comprises, to bear against the roller 26, a first blade 28 provided with a lateral ramp 28a and a concave surface defining a first notch 29, and a second blade provided with a concave surface forming a second notch 30.
- These two blades are fixed on a disc 31 mounted in the housing so as to be able to pivot around its central axis 32, by virtue of a cylindrical stud 31a formed under the disc and engaged in a corresponding bore in the housing.
- Semicircular grooves are formed in a circular path in the underside of the disc 31 and in the opposite surface of the housing 17, to accommodate two pairs of compression springs 33 which are opposite in pairs and tend to hold the disc 31 in a middle position.
- the springs 33 are placed under stress, and thus exert on the disc 31 a permanent force which elastically opposes the rotation of the disc in both directions.
- the position of the lever 19 drawn in solid lines corresponds to the closed position of the door 1 1. Its position 19 'defined by the first notch 29 corresponds to a first open position, where the door has a small opening , and its position 19 "defined by the second notch 30 corresponds to a second position, in which the opening of the door is maximum and can be limited, for example, by abutment of the roller 26 against a wall of the housing 17. When one open the door, the roller 26 rolls on the ramp 28a and rotates the disc 31 clockwise by pushing the first blade 28, until it fits in the first notch 29.
- the disc 31 returns to its middle position when the roller is between the notches 29 and 30, then it pivots counterclockwise when the roller pushes back from the notch 30.
- the movements s have similar, but opposite to those just described for the opening.
- the housing 17 has on its lower face two opposite fixing lugs 34 and 35 which make it possible to fix it astride the fixed part 14 of the hinge, for example by means of a single transverse screw 36.
- the mounting and the disassembly of the hinge are particularly easy.
- the housing 17 is sealed in a leaktight manner by the upper cover 18, by means of a suitable seal not shown, and it can also be sealed in the upper part 24 of the movable knuckle, so that the retaining mechanism is perfectly sheltered from the effects of water and dirt, and can in particular be lubricated for life.
- vehicle users are not likely to get dirty if they come into contact with the hinge.
- Figures 7 and 8 show a variant of the retaining mechanism cooperating with the roller 26 of the pivoting lever 19.
- the support against the roller is provided by the pivoting disc 31 under the action of the springs 33 shown in Figures 3 and 6, or by an equivalent element capable of pivoting around the axis 32 under the action of a spring.
- the element of the mechanism pressing against the roller 26 is a lever 38 having one end articulated around an axis 39 in the housing 17, while its other end is pushed towards the roller 26 by a stud 40 carried by the disc 31.
- the edge of the lever 38 on which the roller 26 rolls constitutes a cam comprising a ramp 41, a first notch 42 formed by a concave surface, a second ramp 43 extending to a point 44 , and a second notch 45 formed by a concave surface.
- the free end 46 of the cam lever 38 slides in a groove 47 formed in the housing and one end of which 48 serves as a stop for the lever 38.
- the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above, but it extends to any modification or variant obvious to a person skilled in the art.
- the stop device 16 could be fixed to the movable part of the hinge instead of the fixed part, or could be mounted at the lower end of the pin 15 instead of being mounted by- above.
- This device can be provided on the two hinges of a door or on one, depending on the efforts to be made and according to the space available.
- the parts of the device can be made of any suitable material, in particular metal or synthetic material in the form of molded parts, and the device can be manufactured and delivered in the form of an independent unit, fitting on a manufactured hinge. elsewhere.
- the mechanism housed in the housing can be designed in a different way, for example if the cam surface is provided on a pivoting element provided in place of the lever 19, while that a corresponding support roller is mounted in the housing, on a moving part urged by one or more springs.
