Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a soot filter for diesel engines with a burner which burns off the soot layers deposited on the filter candles, the engine exhaust gases being passed through a tangential inlet into an annular space surrounding the burner, from which they pass into the filter space via the combustion chamber.
In a soot filter, it is known to introduce the exhaust gas of the diesel engine through a tangential inlet into an annular space which surrounds the burner and from which the exhaust gases flow to the filter space. The exhaust gases circulating in the annular space disturb the gases entering through the inlet, so that considerable turbulence is created which increases the overall flow resistance of the soot filter.
The object of the invention is to achieve the lowest possible overall flow resistance and high sound attenuation in a soot filter of the type mentioned.
This object is achieved in that the area of the annular chamber into which the exhaust gases enter is separated by a wall from the area of the annular chamber into which the exhaust gases pass after the annular chamber has completely flowed through.
Through such a wall, in particular through a baffle, it is ensured that the exhaust gas stream entering the annular space through the inlet is not exposed to any additional turbulence and thus can flow through the annular space relatively undisturbed, in order to then leave the annular space at the baffle at the latest and to the filter space reach. This results in a uniform flow in front of, in and behind the annular space, so that the overall flow resistance of the soot filter is significantly reduced. Such a low flow resistance of the overall system leads to the considerable advantage that more soot can be deposited, since a thicker layer of soot can be present before the pressure is no longer sufficient to flow through the soot filter. This means that it can burn off at longer intervals and the service life of the soot filter is longer.
The soot filter has optimal sound absorbing properties. on the one hand this is due to the fact that the annular space forms a large, uniform calming space which, together with the expansion chamber that follows thereafter, achieves high sound absorption values. The inlet-side guide plate and the flow division through the second annular chamber, which exists between the two cylindrical perforated plates, also contribute to this.
