Im ersten Fall ergeben sich unerwünscht große Baulängen für den Stufenwähler, im zweiten Fall ebenso unerwünschte große horizontale Ausdehnungen des gesamten Stufenschalters.

Der besondere Vorteil des erfindungsgemäßen Polungsschalters liegt insbesondere darin, daß er, bedingt durch die annähernd horizontale Anordnung des als beweglicher Kontakt wirkenden Schirmringes, eine nur geringe Bauhöhe beansprucht und dadurch platzsparend besonders vorteilhaft zwischen Vorwähler bzw. Wender und Feinwähler oder bei seitlichem Vorwähler bzw. Wender unter- bzw. oberhalb des Feinwählers untergebracht werden kann.
Durch die direkte Betätigung des schaltenden Schirmringes durch eine nutartige Steuerkontur auf dem Antriebsrohr entfällt einerseits ein separates Getriebe, andererseits bietet die Gestaltung bzw. Dimensionierung dieser Steuerkontur auf einfache Weise zahlreiche Möglichkeiten, den Polungsschalter an verschiedene Wählerschaltwinkel anzupassen bzw. verschiedene Öffnungs- und Schließgeschwindigkeiten und -charakteristika durch Variation des Einlaufwinkels der Steuernocke in der Steuerkontur vorzusehen. Der Wähler besteht hierbei aus einer Wählerschale 1, beispielsweise einem GFK-Rohr oder einem zylindrischen Isolierstoffgerüst. In einer ersten horizontalen Ebene I sind in der Wenderschale 1 die festen Wender bzw. Vorwählerkontakte 2 angeordnet, in einer zweiten horizontalen Ebene II befindet sich darunter der anschließend näher zu erläuternde Polungsschalter und schließlich sind wiederum darunter in mindestens einer weiteren horizontalen Ebene III die Feinwählerkontakte 3 angeordnet.
Im Inneren der Wählerschale 1 befinden sich konzentrische Antriebswellen 4, 5, die auf bekannte Weise mittels nicht dargestellter Kontaktbrücken oder dergleichen die jeweiligen Festkontakte des Wenders oder Vorwählers 2 bzw. des Feinwählers 3 mit der jeweiligen Kontaktableitung, die ebenfalls nicht dargestellt ist, verbinden. Nicht dargestellt ist ferner, das bekannte Malteserradgetriebe zur Erzeugung einer Drehbewegung der Antriebswelle 4 zur Betätigung des Wenders oder Vorwählers, wenn der Feinwähler alle Kontakte durchlaufen hat.
In der horizontalen Ebene II befindet sich, wie ausgeführt, der erfindungsgemäße Polungsschalter. Dieser besteht im wesentlichen aus einem festen, gefederten Polungskontakt 6 in der Wenderschale 1, einem Lager 7 auf der entgegengesetzten Seite im Inneren der Wenderschale 1, das einen als beweglicher Polungskontakt wirkenden Schirmring 8 trägt und einer Steuerkontur 9 auf der Antriebswelle 5.
Das in der Wenderschale 1 fest angeordnete Lager 7 ermöglicht auf nicht näher dargestellt Weise, z. B. mittels eines horizontalen Querbolzens 7.1, eine vertikale Schwenkbewegung des annähernd horizontalen, einseitig angelenkten Schirmringes 8 um einen Drehpunkt 7.2 in der angegebenen Pfeilrichtung. Geführt wird der Schirmring 8 dabei durch einen fest mit ihm verbundenen Führungsarm 10, der an seinem freien Ende eine Führungsrolle 11 trägt, die wiederum in der Steuerkontur 9 läuft und von ihr geführt wird.
Der feste Polungskontakt 6 ist gefedert, so daß er geringfügig horizontal nach außen drückbar ist; außerhalb der Wenderschale 1 ist er mit einem an sich bekannten Polungswiderstand verbunden.
