Description

The invention relates to a device for disposing of waste ink and flushing liquid in an ink writing device according to the features of claim 1.

As is known, high-resolution print heads in ink writing devices have a large number of outlet nozzles, from which individual droplets eject droplets of ink in the direction of a recording medium by means of individual control elements assigned to the individual outlet nozzles. By means of a relative movement between the write head and the record carrier, characters or graphic patterns are built up on the record carrier during the writing process. Due to the contraction processes occurring in the outlet nozzles during the writing operation, such a writing head automatically supplies itself with writing fluid.

Such ink writing devices, which work with multi-nozzle writing heads, are sensitive to environmental influences. Causes of possible malfunctions include drying or drying of the writing fluid, strong changes in the viscosity of the writing fluid or contamination of the nozzle area of the writing heads by foreign body particles such as paper dust. In the case of ink printing devices which operate with negative pressure, a malfunction of the concave ink meniscus at the end of the nozzle, for example due to vibration of the printing device during transport, can also lead to malfunctions and ultimately to a breakdown in operation.

Due to the physical principle used, it is essential for the function that the writing fluid in the supply system is free of gas or air inclusions. When starting up such an ink writing device or when replacing the ink reservoir, the entire ink supply system must therefore be filled with ink. For this purpose it is known from DE 26 10 518 C3 to briefly increase the pressure in the writing fluid and thus to flush the supply system and the connected writing head with writing fluid. Such flushing also has the effect of removing any dirt that may have entered. In order to dispose of the writing fluid ejected from the outlet nozzles during this rinsing process, part of the ink reservoir designed as a supporting body is shaped as a collecting container for this waste ink. This collecting container is connected to the outlet openings of the writing head via a channel which discharges the waste ink and which opens into the collecting container via an inlet opening. There is a tampon made of absorbent material in the collection container, which absorbs the waste ink. When the writing fluid contained in the ink reservoir is used up, the ink reservoir with the support body is removed from the writing device. At the same time, the tampon which absorbs the waste ink and is protected from contact by the support body is removed. The entire storage container is then thrown away.

From DE 34 06 865 A1, a recording device is known for receiving flushing or leaking ink, which is arranged below the record carrier and the movable writing head between the side walls of the ink writing device. This consists of a trough-shaped container which is closed on all sides and which has openings on its top through which at the same time Except for ink vapor, the exhaust gases from a corrosion protection agent can also escape. The container also contains a foldable foil pouch with an absorbent material disposed therein. To exchange this absorbent material, the container is arranged so that it can be pulled out of the machine from a position below the transport roller for the recording medium.

The invention is based on a device for the disposal of waste liquids known from DE 37 32 797 A1, in which waste ink or rinsing liquid which occurs in cleaning and rinsing procedures are conducted from a cleaning station to a disposal container. The disposal container contains a material which is absorbent for the waste ink or rinsing liquid and is arranged in a pull-out manner in a bottom wall of an ink writing device. In the known device, the disposal container has a cutout in its front wall inserted into the ink writing device, through which a mouth of a tube for returning used waste ink or flushing liquid projects. In the known device, there is a risk that, when the disposal container is removed, waste ink or rinsing liquid escapes in an uncontrolled manner into the receiving space for the disposal container or out of the housing of the ink writing device.

The object on which the invention is based is to provide a device for disposing of the waste liquids which occur during cleaning and rinsing procedures in ink writing devices of the type mentioned at the outset, which, with a simple structure, allows the disposal container to be replaced easily and completely free of dirt and also contaminates machine parts within the writing device reliably prevented in the service or transport position of the writing device that deviates from the normal operating position.

This object is achieved in accordance with the features of patent claim 1. Further refinements and advantageous developments are characterized in the subclaims.

With the help of a separate, disposable or refillable container that can be pulled from the outside, waste liquids can be disposed of in a very simple and cost-effective manner. The design of the inlet opening in the form of a mushroom-shaped funnel, the oblique funnel walls of which expand in the direction of the absorbent material in the lower part of the container, ensures that residues of the lost liquid are present in all operating positions of the writing device, such as, for example, in the assembly or pivoting position which can be achieved by pivoting Transport position, always in get the container. As a result, any contamination of machine parts within the writing device as well as soiling of the fingers of the operator performing the replacement of the disposal container is reliably excluded.

Outlet openings on the lid of the disposal container and ventilation slots on the handle part which makes it easier for the container to be pulled out enable the liquids which have accumulated in the container to evaporate rapidly.

In Figure 1, a side view of the disposal container is shown in a sectional view. It essentially exists of two, unmistakably plastic parts which can be snapped together by incisions 33 in the lid 2, namely a trough-shaped base part 1 and a cover 2 covering the base part 1 upwards. The base part 1 serves to hold a material 5 which is absorbent for writing and rinsing liquid, for example cellulose , Fleece, felt, sponge, foam materials or similar media binding the above liquids. The absorbent material can be inserted into the container in the form of a folded strip, as a layering of individual plates or in one piece. At one end of the bottom part 1, a handle 20 adjoins the receiving space for the suction filling, with the aid of which the entire disposal container can be pulled out like a drawer from a side wall 30 of the printer housing. For conveniently pulling the disposal container, the grip 20 has a recessed grip 18 which is symmetrical with respect to the width of the base part 1. On the outside of the handle 20 facing the operator, a wall 19 protrudes freely upward in the drawn state of the disposal container, which in the inserted state of the container has a corresponding depression in the side wall 30 of the bottom pan 12 of the printer housing, not shown in the figures is recorded. Despite the pull-out device, this gives the visual impression of a smooth surface structure of the floor pan.

The underside of the handle 20 is also adapted to the contour of the floor pan 12. For this reason, this underside has a slope 31. The bevel 31 is provided on both sides of the recessed grip 18 with air inlet openings 21, and the recessed grip itself is provided with ventilation slots 22 on its upper side (FIGS. 2 and 3). The air inlet openings 21 shown and the ventilation slots 22 allow the collected liquids to evaporate in the disposal container and at the same time support the air circulation for cooling the generally also in the floor pan 12 of the printer housing arranged electrical and electronic assemblies, in particular the power supply assembly.

On the underside of the bottom part 1 is in the front area, i.e. in the vicinity of the handle part 20, a locking lug 10 is provided which interacts with a cutout 11 serving as a locking receptacle in the base trough 12 of the printer housing (FIGS. 1 and 7). In the installed position of the disposal container, this latch 10 lies non-positively in the cutout 11, the underside of the base part 1 serving as a spring element during the pulling or insertion of the container (FIG. 6).

On the two also resilient side walls 4 of the base part 1, two sealing ribs 32 are provided for fastening the cover 2, thereby creating a liquid-tight and space-saving freeforming that lies inwards, ie in the cavity of the container. Lugs 3 of the cover 2 are locked in this free-form formation (FIGS. 4 and 5). In order to be able to lock these two parts in an unmistakable manner, extensions 35 of the sealing ribs 32 of the base part 1 and the correspondingly assigned incisions 33 of the cover 2 in the region of the lugs 3 are dimensioned in different lengths (FIGS. 4 and 5). This ensures that the cover 2 is always mounted in the correct position on the bottom part 1. This is important in the exemplary embodiment shown, since the inlet opening for the loss liquid in the cover 2 is not arranged in the middle with respect to its longitudinal extent and, if the cover 2 is placed incorrectly, the loss liquid supplied by means of one or more flexible hoses 8 would not get into the inlet opening. This inlet opening is formed by a funnel 9, the walls of which extend into the receiving space for the suction filling of the disposal container in a collar-like manner in such a way that the funnel 9 widens in the direction of the receiving space (FIG. 1).

In the pushed-in state of the container, the funnel-shaped inlet opening 9 lies below the ends of the flexible hoses 8, which lead to a cleaning and sealing station, not shown here, and which drain away any waste liquids which occur during cleaning and rinsing procedures. Such cleaning and sealing stations for ink writing devices are well known and described for example in WO 87/04979 and DE 87 14 304.6 U1.

The flexible hoses 8 are held in the region of the funnel 9 on a fastening part 7 of the pressure device, so that a permanent position assignment of the hose end / inlet opening is always guaranteed. The free ends of the flexible hoses 8 dip into the mushroom-shaped funnel 9 by the dimension a. The immersion dimension a is determined by the material of the hose 8 (in particular its bending stiffness), the dimensions and the possible operating positions of the container.

The inlet opening of the funnel 9 according to this exemplary embodiment has an oval shape, a hole 29 being provided on each side of the inlet opening and the inclined side walls of the funnel 9 enclosing a free space 28 in the form of a circumferential groove which is required for design reasons. In this free space 28, at least one hole 29 is provided on each side of the oval, through which loss fluid that has entered the free space 28 can flow into the receiving space (FIG. 2). In addition, the lid 2 has a plurality of holes 15, which support the evaporation of the collected liquids.

In the normal operating position of the printing device and when the disposal container is pushed in, the liquid to be picked up (waste ink or rinsing liquid) can drip directly through the inlet opening into the free space 14 of the funnel 9 and be absorbed by the absorbent filling 5. This consists, for example, of a Strip of absorbent material 5, which is folded several times into a package and inserted into the cavity of the container. To make it easier to insert the filling, a rubber band 6 is provided which holds the individual layers together. Due to the side walls 17 of the funnel 9 projecting into the container, the filling 5 is somewhat compressed in this area.

(Figur 1, 5 und 7).When the container is pushed in in the direction of the arrow according to FIG. 5, the flexible hoses 8 on the cover 2 dodge, slide over the perforated cover and slip into the free space 14 of the funnel 9 Printer housing in the region of the long side of the container each has a guide element projecting perpendicularly from the inside of the floor pan 12 in the form of a guide web 23. In addition, catch hooks 24 are provided on both sides of the guide webs 23, which cooperate with guides 25 of the base part 1 and first center the disposal container when it is inserted and hold it precisely in position when it is inserted. A contact rib 26 on the floor pan 12 in the region of the handle part 20 delimits the container at the top and serves as a counterpart when the writing device is carried. The insertion depth of the container is limited at the contact point 34. (Figure 1, 5 and 7).

When the disposal container is pulled out (FIG. 6), the flexible hoses 8 dodge at the edge of the funnel 9, scrape off the waste ink 13 when sliding over the holes 15 in the cover 2 and, after the container has been completely pulled out, remain freely suspended after cleaning. Possible waste ink residue 13, which is stripped from the hose ends into the free space 28, runs back in the groove to the holes 29 in the container. The cleaning and stripping of the hose ends is reinforced and favored by the constant bending and bending of the hoses 8 due to the perforated surface of the cover 2.

If, for example, the writing device is pivoted into an assembly or service position about a pivot point denoted by reference numeral 16 in FIG. 7, the tubes 8 scrape off the waste ink 13 at the edge of the funnel and are thus cleaned.

Even in a possible transport position of the writing device, in which the device is rotated through 90 °, the design of the funnel 9 ensures that waste ink 13 or rinsing liquid gets into the disposal container. For this purpose, the sloping, collar-like side walls 17 of the funnel 9 are used. The residual liquid still remaining in the tubes 8 drips inward into the absorbent filling 5 (FIG. 10) due to gravity on the sloping wall 17. If the writing device is pivoted through an angle that is greater than 90 °, for example when transporting or storing the packaged device on the top of the packaging carton, the waste ink 13 runs back in the tubes 8 in the closed ink system and collects therein.

In contrast to the inlet opening according to the type described above, it has a rectangular shape so that for the pivoting of the printer (FIG. 7) the tubes 8 (in this example three tubes) have the same distance c from the edge of the funnel. The geometric dimensions of the inlet opening (dimension d and dimension f) are determined by the number of hoses 8 or by the distance c). In addition, the tubes 8 no longer point perpendicularly to the inlet opening, but are inclined by an angle β in order to pivot the writing device in order to wipe the waste ink residues 13 on the funnel 9 at each of the tubes 8 at the pivot point identified by the reference number 27 in the assembly position, and in order not to touch the edge of the funnel 9 when pivoting back into the operating position.
