Description

The present invention relates to a balancing screw which is slotted in the area of its external thread such that a mutual displacement of the threads above and below the slots is set in the direction of the screw longitudinal axis.

Such adjustment screws are used in microwave technology to e.g. Adjust waveguide resonance circuits, adjust electrical tolerances of semiconductors used in waveguides, adjust inductances of high-frequency coils or adjust trimmer capacitors to the desired capacitance and the like. It must be ensured that the adjustment screw makes safe, long-term stable contact with the respective microwave component. This is achieved in that the adjustment screw has a self-locking seat in a threaded hole into which it is screwed. Such a self-locking adjustment screw is shown in US 3,469,160. The adjusting screw has a self-locking effect in that it is provided with two slits arranged one above the other and running perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the screw. These transverse slots have the effect that the threads below and above the slots are slightly offset from one another, as a result of which the screw thread is elastically braced in the thread of the threaded hole. The cross slots make the adjustment screw susceptible to torsional forces. There is a risk that the self-locking adjustment screws will break in the area of the transverse slots.

The invention is based on the object of specifying a balancing screw of the type mentioned, which is very robust against torsional forces and ensures a secure self-locking fit.

This object is achieved by the features of claim 1. An advantageous development of the invention is evident from the subclaim.

The measures of the invention advantageously prevent the elastically interconnected threaded areas of the adjusting screw from twisting in a threaded hole against each other, so that the risk of destroying the adjusting screw is almost eliminated. The polygonal recess as an engagement for a screwdriver also prevents it from slipping off during the adjustment process and possibly damaging the thread in the threaded hole.

Based on an embodiment shown in the drawing, the invention is explained in more detail below.
  • Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section AA and
  • FIG. 2 shows a top view with a partial cross section BB of an adjustment screw.

A and FIG. 2 is a top view with a partial section B-B of an adjustment screw. This is provided in its upper part with an external thread 1 in order to be able to screw it into a threaded hole (not shown in the drawing), for example a waveguide. The lower part 2 of the adjustment screw is threadless and protrudes into the interior of the waveguide in order to influence the field spreading therein in the desired manner. The external thread 1 is divided into two threaded areas 4 and 5 by a recess 3 running radially on the circumference of the adjusting screw. A polygonal recess (e.g. hexagon) 6 serving as an engagement for a screwdriver is embedded in the upper part of the adjustment screw. This polygonal recess 6 extends into the threaded area 5 below the recess 3. The wall 7 existing between the recess 3 and the polygonal recess 6 is feathered by slots 8 running in the direction of the screw longitudinal axis. This creates an elastic connection between the two threaded areas 4 and 5. Due to the elastic connection, the two threaded areas 4 and 5 can be pressed together so that the threads in the area 4 above the slots 8 and the threads in the area 5 below the slots 8 move each other in the direction of the screw's longitudinal axis. Because of this thread shift, the adjustment screw screwed into a threaded bore is given a self-locking fit. Since the polygonal recess 6 for the engagement of a screwdriver extends beyond the feathery, elastic region of the recess 3 into the lower thread region 5, the screwdriver simultaneously grips both thread regions 4 and 5, so that there can be no destructive torsional movement between them.

The adjustment screw described above can be manufactured in the following process steps with little effort.

Dabei entstehen in der Aussparung 3, dort wo die Mehrkantvertiefung 6 ihre Kanten hat, die Schlitze 8.First, the external thread 1 is cut on a bolt that will later form the adjustment screw. The polygonal recess is then milled. In a last step, the recess 3 is then unscrewed from the thread 1. This creates the slots 8 in the recess 3 where the polygonal recess 6 has its edges.
