Abstract
Description
Vermikulargraphit. The invention relates to a cored wire for the treatment of cast iron melts, consisting of a sheath made of iron material, preferably steel, and a filling made of fine-grained so-called magnesium master alloy for the production of cast iron with spheroidal graphite or vermicular graphite.
It is known that cast iron melts are treated with pure magnesium or magnesium master alloy in order to achieve a spherical or vermicular formation of the graphite in the cast iron matrix and thereby to influence the mechanical-technological properties of the workpieces cast therefrom in an advantageous manner.
In order to avoid floating and evaporation of the pure magnesium or the magnesium master alloy to be introduced into the cast iron melt, a number of processes are available in the specialist field, such as trigger, immersion, converter, sandwich, flotret, tundish cover and Pouring process known. It is also known to carry out the treatment of cast iron melts by means of cored wires with a diameter of 5 to 13 mm, which consist, for example, of a steel jacket with a filling of powdered pure magnesium or magnesium master alloy with ferrosilicon, calcium, magnesium, silicon, rare earths and by means of a feed device into the cast iron melt at speeds of up to 200 m / min (GB-A 2 069 898). In addition, the powdery magnesium master alloys can also contain metallurgically active additives, such as mixed silica metal, graphite or the like, and reaction-inhibiting components, such as iron, graphite, pearlite and / or calcium carbide. Also known are cored wires which are made with a powdered calcium-silicon-magnesium alloy with the composition 15 to 30% by weight calcium, 40 to 55% by weight silicon and 5 to 32 wt .-% magnesium are filled, which show a reduced reaction in the iron melt compared to cored wires filled with pure magnesium.
Rein-Magnesium gefüllten Fülldrähte zu einem relativ niedrigen Magnesium-Ausbringen von maximal 40 %.The aim of the treatment of cast iron melts with such cored wires is always to introduce a few hundredths of a percent magnesium into the cast iron melt in order to bring about a spherical or vermicular formation of the graphite in the cast iron melt. The use of cored wires filled with pure magnesium or magnesium master alloy usually leads to violent reaction of the magnesium when immersed in the cast iron melt due to the high vapor pressure of the magnesium at temperatures of> 1400 ° C. In addition, the presence of reaction-inhibiting additives in the powder mixture of the magnesium master alloy leads to the formation of undesirable reaction slags. The cored wires filled with calcium-silicon-magnesium alloy react weaker with the cast iron melt, but like all other cored wires filled with magnesium master alloy or pure magnesium, they lead to a relatively low magnesium output of a maximum of 40%.
Attempts to increase magnesium output by changing the wall thickness of the filler wire or by increasing the rate of insertion of the filler wire into the cast iron melt did not improve the magnesium output in the cast iron matrix.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a cored wire which enables a significant increase in the magnesium output in the cast iron melt and which reacts slowly with the cast iron melt without the formation of reaction slags.
This object is achieved according to the invention by a cored wire, which consists of a sheath made of iron material and a filling of fine-grained magnesium master alloy, the latter having a composition of 8 to 15% by weight of magnesium, 42 to 48% by weight of silicon, the remainder essentially iron, the magnesium content, based on the total weight of the cored wire, being at least 5% by weight. The amount of cored wire supplied to the cast iron melt, based on the treatment unit, is thus in the order of 0.5 to 1% by weight.
Fine-grained iron-silicon-magnesium master alloys of the aforementioned type are known for the treatment of cast iron melts, but are only used when working after the pouring process, in which the master alloy is accommodated in the bottom of the ladle and covered with a covering agent in order to avoid the undesirable whirling up to prevent the master alloy from being poured into the ladle and to delay the start of the reaction with the molten cast iron. The magnesium yield in this process is of the low order of magnitude customary in practice. The start of the reaction is delayed by the covering agent, but the reaction itself is comparatively violent.
The magnesium master alloy contained in the cored wire according to the invention can also contain 0.2 to 3.5% by weight of calcium or / and 0.1 to 1.5% by weight of aluminum or / and up to 3% by weight of rare earths that act as metallurgical additives.
A preferred composition of the filling of the filler wire consists of a magnesium-containing master alloy which consists of 10 to 12% by weight of magnesium, 43 to 46% by weight of silicon, 1 to 2% by weight of rare earths, the rest being iron. The sheath of the cored wire can consist of any type of iron, preferably steel.
It turns out that with the cored wire constructed according to the invention more than tripling the magnesium output is achieved, which has a favorable effect on the mechanical-technological properties of the castings produced. Since the magnesium-containing master alloy can remain free of reaction-inhibiting components, there is inevitably no reaction slag. Another advantage is that the thickness of the sheath of the cored wire can be reduced from 0.4 mm to 0.25 mm, whereby either a smaller diameter of the cored wire can be achieved or a larger amount of magnesium-containing master alloy per unit length can be accommodated in the cored wire . In addition, the relatively large magnesium output leads to a significantly smaller amount of magnesium oxide smoke, which can be extracted without any great technical effort.
