Abstract

A laterally releasable jaw of a safety ski binding for fastening one end of a ski boot 9 has a binding housing 11, in which a release spring 14 is arranged which extends essentially in the longitudinal direction of the ski, is supported at one end on the binding housing 11 and with the other end applies a release force, having an essential component in the longitudinal direction of the ski, to a sole-holder 22, arranged towards the ski boot 9, in the direction away from the ski boot 9 in such a way that, if a predetermined lateral force exerted by the ski boot 9 is exceeded, the sole-holder 22 swivels out laterally about at least one essentially upright swivel axle and releases the ski boot 9. The release spring thereby exerts a force component directed downwards onto the sole-holder which is arranged on the binding housing 11 so as to be displaceable in height along an upright slide guide, with the result that the sole-holder 22 is pressed against the upper side of the ski boot sole 29.
