Description

The invention relates to a condenser for vaporous substances, in which at least two tubes, which are assigned to one another in a series connection and flowed around by a coolant, are provided.

Such a capacitor is known. The condensation performance that can be achieved in this way is only relatively low, based on the weight.

The invention has for its object to develop such a capacitor in such a way that there is a reduction in weight, based on the power.

This object is achieved with a capacitor of the type mentioned with the characterizing features of claim 1. The subclaims refer to advantageous configurations.

In the condenser according to the invention, it is provided that a separating device is provided at the outlet opening of each tube, which separates the residual steam from the condensate, the separating device being connected to a collector for removing the condensate. The remainder of the vaporous material entering the next pipe is thus free of condensate. The theoretically achievable condenser performance of each tube is almost achieved. With regard to the achievement of a certain condensation result, it is possible in this way to significantly reduce the total weight of the condenser compared to common designs.

The separating devices can each comprise a baffle, which are arranged in front of the outlet openings of each tube at a distance transversely to the outlet direction. Droplets consisting of the condensate are thereby collected and fed to the collector without problems.

The baffle walls can be designed in the manner of boxes which encompass the outlet openings of each tube, each box being penetrated by a steam outlet opening in the region of its upper end and by the collector in the region of its lower end. Even at high flow velocities of the steam passed through under normal operating conditions, it is possible to achieve a good separation of all condensed components between the successive pipes. This is a great advantage for achieving a favorable power-to-weight ratio.

The collectors can be formed by essentially vertical channels, the channels being connected at the lower end by a line. The merging and removal of the condensate is particularly easy with such a design. A modular construction of the entire capacitor is recommended for reasons of simplicity of manufacture and for reasons of easier adaptability to the requirements of the respective application.

In one embodiment of a condenser in which the tubes extend essentially transversely to the direction of travel of a motor vehicle, it has proven particularly advantageous if the collectors present at the left and right ends of the tubes are each connected to a collecting space on the underside, the two collecting spaces are connected by a line and a float valve is provided between each collecting space and the associated collector. Under normal operating conditions, the two collecting spaces are so largely filled with condensate that the float valve is still just in the open position and that the intake opening of a device to be cooled by the condensate is completely flooded. This always ensures cooling of the device and ensures that freshly condensed condensate flows continuously into the collecting spaces.

When a motor vehicle is cornering, the situation can arise that the condensate contained in the two collecting spaces undergoes a relative displacement in the direction of the outside of the curve due to centrifugal force. Consequently, condensate constituents accumulate in the collecting space arranged on this side, which requires the float valve to be moved into a closed position. The extent of a corresponding relative displacement of condensate constituents is hereby restricted to an uncritical order of magnitude. A reliable supply of the device to be cooled by the condensate is therefore always guaranteed even under such operating conditions, regardless of the size of the acceleration forces exerted in the transverse direction. Even the condensation performance as such is not significantly impaired in extreme situations. In the worst case, there may be a certain build-up of condensation constituents in the last of the pipes assigned to one another in a series connection. Under normal conditions, this is of no further importance.

  • Figur 1 eine beispielhafte Ausführung des erfindungsgemäßen Kondensators in einer Ansicht von vorn;
  • Figur 2 den rechten Teil eines Kondensators ähnlich der in Figur 1 gezeigten Ausführung in längsgeschnittener Darstellung;
The subject matter of the invention is further clarified below with the aid of the attached drawing. Show it:
  • Figure 1 shows an exemplary embodiment of the capacitor according to the invention in a view from the front;
  • Figure 2 shows the right part of a capacitor similar to the embodiment shown in Figure 1 in a longitudinal section;
  • Figure 3 shows the part of a capacitor shown in Figure 2 in a cross-sectional view.

The condenser shown in FIG. 1 is intended for continuous condensation of vaporous substances, for example for the coolant of an internal combustion engine. The capacitor essentially consists of a left-hand housing part 10 and a right-hand housing part 11, which are connected to one another by pipes 2 extending, for example, transversely to the direction of travel of a motor vehicle. The tubes 2 are arranged at a distance from one another and can thus flow around free of cooling air 1. You can optionally be provided with additional cooling fins or the like.

The left housing part 10 is provided at the upper end with an inlet opening 13 for the supply of a vaporous substance, the right housing part 11 with a discharge opening 12 emerging at the lower end for the discharge of condensate. This opening can be connected, for example, to the intake opening of the coolant pump of an internal combustion engine.

Both housings 10, 11 are provided with collecting spaces 9 with an enlarged cross section at the lower end. These are interconnected by a line 8. As a result, the liquid level of the condensate contained in the two collecting spaces can compensate for one another.

In Figure 2, the right housing part is partially shown in longitudinal section. It is formed by a molded plastic part, into which the metallic tubes 2 which cause the actual condensation of the vaporous substance open. A baffle wall is arranged at a distance opposite the outlet opening of the tubes 2 and extends transversely to the outlet direction. The baffle 5 is provided with lugs, whereby it is of a box-like shape overall and correspondingly surrounds the outlet openings of the tubes. The box formed by the baffle is broken through at the upper end by a steam outlet opening 6 and at the lower end by the condensate collector 7.

The steam outlet openings are designed so that a forced deflection to the next pipe is inevitable. The condensate collectors 4 are formed by essentially vertical channels which open at the lower end into collecting spaces 9 which are connected to one another by a line 8. A float valve 14 is arranged between the collecting spaces 9 and the collectors 4. This is designed so that the connection between the collecting space 9 and the collector 4 is interrupted if there is an impermissibly large increase in liquid in the corresponding collecting space 9. This could be the case, for example, when large acceleration forces are introduced parallel to the direction of the line 8. With the condenser according to the invention, they no longer result in an impermissibly large drop in the liquid level in the opposite collecting space 9. This ensures complete flooding of the suction opening 12 under all operating conditions and thus at the same time a sufficient supply to the device connected to the suction opening 12.

It can be seen that the baffles are box-shaped and that the collectors 7, with respect to the tubes 2 and the steam outlet openings 6, are laterally offset.
