Description

The invention relates to an arrangement for supplying ink to an ink writing head according to the preamble of patent claim 1.

Print heads in ink writing devices essentially have a multiplicity of ink channels which end on the side of the write head facing a recording medium in outlet nozzles and which end at the other end in a common ink chamber. This is connected to an ink reservoir via a supply system. A drive element is assigned to each ink channel, and when actuated individually, a single droplet of ink is ejected. Thermal transducers or piezoceramic transducers are used as drive elements. The supply of ink into the ink chamber and into the individual ink channels is usually carried out capillary or using a slight negative pressure inside the head.

The so-called anisotropic etching process is a suitable method for producing such write heads (EP 0 359 417 A2). The individual crystal directions of a substrate body, e.g. Silicon, depending on different etching speeds used to form particularly precise contours of different depths.

With increasing miniaturization of the ink-carrying parts of a print head and with increasing reduction in the diameter of the outlet openings, the risk increases that even the smallest contamination of the ink leads to disturbing blockages. It is therefore essential to provide an ink filter in the ink supply system. It is common to use a filter of this type, for example in the form of a fine-mesh screen between the ink reservoir and the ink chamber (see, for example, US-A-4 864 329). Attaching such a filter, for example by gluing or other fastenings, such as pressing, is extremely complex and requires additional manufacturing steps.

The invention has for its object to ensure filtering of the ink without a separate, i.e. independent filter element must be provided and installed.

This object is achieved according to the characterizing features of claim 1.

Refinements and further improvements are characterized in the subclaims.

The advantages of the arrangement according to the invention consist essentially in the fact that the ink supply area designed as a channel structure also forms the filter for the ink, that is to say it is an integral part of the writing head, and that the production takes place simultaneously with the formation of the ink channels and the ink chamber of the writing head in one Operation can take place.

Dort zeigenThe invention is explained below with reference to an embodiment shown in the drawings. Show there

Figur 1 die Schnittdarstellung eines Tintenschreibkopfes mit einem Tintenzufuhrbereich gemäß der Erfindung, Figur 2, Figur 3 und Figur 4 jeweils Details der Kanalstruktur nach Figur 1.1 shows the sectional view of an ink writing head with an ink supply area according to the invention, FIG. 2, FIG. 3 and FIG. 4 each show details of the channel structure according to FIG. 1.

In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 1, in a substrate body 1, which consists for example of silicon, the Ink channels 2 and the ink chamber 3 formed, wherein, as described in the introduction, the anisotropic etching process is used. The ink supply area has the channel structure according to the invention, which consists of the individual channels 4 and 5 running in two planes 6 and 7. An ink supply line, not shown here, is connected to the individual channels 4 running in the upper level 6, via which ink is supplied from an ink reservoir, also not shown. This ink reservoir can form a compact unit with the head, so it can be integrated into it; however, it can also be designed as an individual part, for example as an exchangeable ink container which is moved with the head. The individual channels 5 running in the lower level 7 open into the ink chamber 3. This is achieved in that the direction of the individual channels 4 and 5 running in the two levels 6 and 7 is rotated by an angle. In the example, this angle is 90 °. The liquid transport between the individual channels 4 and 5 is ensured by the fact that breakthroughs occur in the areas in which the individual channels of the lower and upper levels intersect. In the usual way, the entire arrangement is closed in a liquid-tight manner by a cover 8, for example made of glass.

For a more detailed explanation of the channel structure, reference is made to FIGS. 2, 3 and 4. FIG. 2 shows the course of the individual channels 4 in the upper level 6, FIG. 3 shows the course of the individual channels 5 in the lower level 7 and FIG Individual channels 4 and 5 are carried out with the aid of a line pattern or line grid applied to the substrate body 1 on both sides, which corresponds to the line pattern shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. It is advantageously possible to use the masks for the anisotropic To provide the etching process with which the ink channels and the ink chamber are formed with such a grating. The grating on one side of the substrate body 1 is rotated by an angle, in the example by an angle of 90 °, with respect to the grating applied on the other side thereof. The channel structure then results in a double-sided etching process.

The channel structure according to the invention not only ensures a secure ink connection; Rather, an effective ink filter is also available which, in addition to improved mechanical stability, also has good flow behavior for the ink and which can be produced in a single operation together with the ink channels and the ink chamber. The arrangement according to the invention offers advantages, above all for so-called interchangeable writing heads, since the filter integrated in the head no longer requires special measures when connected to the ink supply system of a writing device.
