Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for the flat treatment of moving paper webs, in particular for changing the elongation properties and / or the web tension of the paper web.
- the optimal web tensions are at different values.
- the optimal web tensions depend on the paper properties, i.e. they differ from paper to paper, even from batch to batch.
- successive rotogravure rollers In order to maintain sufficient paper tension between the individual inking units, successive rotogravure rollers, for example, have circumferences that are several thousandths of a millimeter larger.
- the change in length that the paper experiences through the embossing is much larger and strongly dependent on pattern to pattern and from type of paper to type of paper.
- the change in length cannot be calculated, but can only be determined experimentally.
- the correspondingly determined size of the printing rollers only applies to exactly the paper quality used in the respective test.
- the invention is based on the object to provide a method by which it is possible with simple means to make a precise length adjustment and in particular to compensate for length errors and to improve the stretchability of the paper.
- the object is achieved in that the paper web is subjected to a treatment process for moistening and / or a treatment process for heating, and that the degree of moistening and / or the heating temperature are adjustable.
- the elongation properties of the paper can be changed very quickly in such a way, for example with a given web tension, that a pre precise lengthwise processing of the paper web is possible.
- both humidification and subsequent heating are carried out.
- a corresponding moistening or heating alone may be sufficient.
- the invention further relates to a device for carrying out the method, which is characterized in that adjustable devices for moistening and / or heating the paper web are provided.
- Figure 1 illustrates a device in which a winding 1 is provided in the initial part, which consists of a very long wound paper web and from which the paper web 2 is pulled in the direction of arrow 3.
- the paper web reaches a moistening device 4 via a guide roller 5.
- the moistening device has a box 6 which is open on one side upwards.
- the paper web 2 is guided tightly along this open side to a further guide roller 11.
- the paper web is covered by a guide cover 7, which, although it leaves enough room for the paper web, prevents moisture from escaping from the box into the environment.
- a water spray device 8 which is designed and arranged in such a way that water droplets 10 are sprayed onto the paper web 2 in a uniform distribution, specifically on the underside thereof.
- the water spray device 8 can consist of one or more movable nozzles or of axially displaceable spray tubes.
- the droplet jet 9 emerging from the water spray device 8 can be directed against a wall of the box 6, in the present exemplary embodiment against the right wall.
- the wall is advantageously designed geometrically in such a way that the droplets 10 reflected from the wall, as said, are distributed as evenly as possible over the underside of the paper web 2.
- the water spray device can also have ultrasound-excited resonators which act on the droplet jet in such a way that the droplets are, as it were, blown apart and distributed.
- the humidification device 4 is followed by a heating device 12 which has a heating surface which is adjustable and controllable in temperature and with which the moving paper web 2 is brought into contact.
- the heating surface can be a fixed curved metal plate, for example.
- the heating surface according to the illustrated embodiment is advantageously formed by a driven heating roller 12, the peripheral speed of which corresponds to the conveying speed of the paper web 2.
- the paper web wraps around the heating roller 12 on as large a part of its circumference as possible, namely from the run-up point following the guide roller 11 to the lifting point in front of the deflection roller 13. From here the paper web 2 arrives at a connection box 14 in which, for example, a dancer roller 15 is located, which ensures a certain bias.
- the connection box 14 is closed by a hinged lid 16.
- the paper web reaches the actual processing machine known per se, for example an embossing calender 17 or a register embossing machine with register embossing rollers 18 and 19, i. H. generally to a processing machine that depends on the precise length adjustment of the paper web.
- FIG. 2 shows an advantageous exemplary embodiment of a supply unit for treating the water, which is intended for the humidification device 4.
- An electric motor 21, which drives a water pump 22, is installed in a machine frame 20.
- the speed of the electric motor and thus also the water pump can be regulated, so that precise regulation and thus also adjustment of the amount of water that can be supplied in the time unit is given.
- a filter preferably a switchable double filter 26, 27, is also provided.
- the changeover is effected by a changeover valve 25.
- a pressure control valve 23 a pressure measuring device 28 and a display device 29 for the flow rate are present.
- thermo statically controlled instantaneous water heater 24 connected.
- the amount of water treated by this device exits through the connecting pipe 30 and reaches the actual moistening device 8, for example the nozzles or spray pipes explained.
- the moistening device 4 can also be equipped with an automatic switch-on and switch-off device which is effective when the paper web exceeds or falls below a predetermined speed range. This device is not shown in the drawing.
- the paper web 2 is guided from the moistening device 4 to the heating roller 12 in such a way that the sprayed web side bears against the heating roller 12.
- the temperature of the heating roller 12 is advantageously selected so that the water not yet absorbed by the paper web 2 evaporates from the paper surface into the paper web and the paper surface is largely dry.
- FIG. 4 shows another embodiment of a moistening device in the diagram, namely a screen roller 34, the circumferential surface of which is provided with a large number of small, identical depressions or cups of precisely defined volume, to which a water film is applied.
- the anilox roller 34 is partially immersed in a water bath 32 which is located in a water basin 31.
- the water basin can be connected to the connecting pipe 30 (FIG. 2).
- a metering element acts on the anilox roller 34, preferably a doctor blade 35 or a squeeze roller 33 according to FIG. 3. This removes excess water and thereby precisely metered the amount of water transferred to the paper web.
- the squeeze roller 33 can be designed as a rubber roller, which in turn partially dips into a water bath according to FIG.
- the anilox roller 34 is driven in accordance with FIGS. 3 and 4 in most cases synchronously with the paper web 2.
- the anilox roller 34 can optionally be driven in all three exemplary embodiments according to FIGS. 3 to 5 at a relative speed to the paper web 2, specifically either with a faster or slower advance or with an opposite direction, i.e. in the opposite direction to the direction of movement of the paper web 2.
- the anilox roller 34 can be heated for heating or before this water film is heated.
- the humidification and heating are expediently carried out in at least two mutually independent steps. These measures can be carried out in the case of multiple successive treatment processes on the paper web and consequently when using a plurality of successive processing machines in each case where it is important to change the elongation behavior of the paper and to adapt it to the respective treatment process.
- the humidification and heating processes are controllable, separately from each other.
- the fact that the moisture and the temperature in the paper can be set independently of one another has a very effective influence on the paper behavior. Thanks to the precisely adjustable and controllable humidification with a very even distribution of moisture in the paper and the precise setting of the heating, an almost complete utilization of the water and heat quantities is achieved.
- the moistening is expediently carried out by spraying on small water droplets or water mist only on one side of the paper web.
- the paper web is expediently guided over a heated surface.
- the side of the paper web that was previously moistened should come into contact with the heated surface. Since the water drops on their way to the paper give off much less heat to the air than water vapor and because the heat of vaporization is only used for the amount of water on or in the paper web and is fully transferred to the fibers during condensation, this method according to the invention works with very little Heat loss. Decalcified and filtered water should be used for moistening.
- cold water or water at room temperature or heated water can be used.
- the water is then expediently heated to a temperature which is close to the evaporation temperature. If, according to a further proposal, the paper web is guided tightly over a box filled with spray droplets or water mist and opened to the paper web, with appropriate regulation practically no water vapor escapes to the outside, so that the water used is used almost completely to moisten the paper web.
- the heating power of the heated surface or the heating roller is thus adjusted or regulated in such a way that the water applied penetrates or evaporates into the interior of the paper web and the outer surfaces of the paper web are dry.
- paper webs that can be described as dry still contain a residual moisture content of about 5 percent by weight. With such a low moisture content, however, the stretching behavior of the paper is very inadequate.
- Another major advantage is the low speed dependence of the moisture in the paper web. As long as the paper web runs slower than the operating speed, more water is supplied to it than at normal operating speed. But then there is also a longer dwell time on the heating surface or the heating roller, so that a corresponding part of the water is evaporated and emerges from the top of the paper web into the environment. Since these are generally only short-term operating states, the escape of the steam into the environment is irrelevant. If necessary, the escaping steam can also be collected from a cavity in the cover 7, sucked off and condensed.
- the increase in paper moisture during the run-up and run-down phases of the machine remains within such tolerable limits that it is often possible to dispense with speed-dependent control of the water and heat supply.
- an automatic switching on and off of the moistening device is sufficient when a certain speed threshold is exceeded or not reached.
- the amount of water can be regulated more easily by speed control of the pump than would be possible with supplied steam.
- web tension control can be carried out during and after moistening, for example by a tension measuring roller and electronically controlled drive of the heating roller.
- the precise metering of humidification and / or heating according to the invention can on the one hand compensate for length errors in the paper web, and on the other hand improve the stretchability of the paper. In this way, errors in the determination or compliance with the printing roller circumferences can also be compensated for. The process even enables the processor to use papers of various origins. Because of its greater fault tolerance, the time-consuming and costly empirical determination of the pressure roller circumference can be replaced by an estimate.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for the flat treatment of moving paper webs, in particular for changing the elongation properties and / or the web tension of the paper web.
It is known in the paper processing industry that some processing operations on endless paper webs, which are intended for example for the production of wallpapers, newspapers or the like, are only possible, at least to achieve an optimal result, can only be carried out if the paper web is compared to one Dry state has a very specific increased moisture content. However, it has proven to be very difficult to achieve the specific moisture content. Various measures have already been taken or tests have been carried out, in particular the paper web was moistened either in a special machine run in front of the actual paper processing machine or simultaneously with the processing operation. To do this, the paper web was either exposed to water mist or water vapor. As a result, sufficient accuracy of the moisture content could not be achieved. If this moistening is carried out in a separate machine operation, it is necessary to temporarily store the paper for a more even distribution of the moisture. This is very annoying for the processing of endless paper webs and is also time-consuming. Another disadvantage is that water or condensate drops can deposit or precipitate on the guide rollers or other machine parts of the processing machine, which then drip onto the paper web, especially when the processing machine is at a standstill or is being driven at slow speed. Paper webs are extremely sensitive to such drops of water, so that the risk of tearing with corresponding malfunctions is very high. Further attempts to pass the paper web through a long, closed channel filled with moisture-enriched air at a certain temperature have also failed, on the one hand because of the high construction costs and on the other hand because of the escape of the moisture-enriched air or a moisture mist into the environment, which not only is uncomfortable for the staff, but is also technically impermissible.
The application of moisture to a paper web is also made difficult by the fact that the more wet it is, in particular on the surfaces, the more difficult it is to wind and unwind a paper web.
For many paper web processing, it is important that the web lengths are correct per unit of length. With register embossing, for example, it is important to emboss the relief figures of the embossing pattern exactly in line with the figures that have already been printed on the paper web, just as with multi-color printing it is important to print all colors so that they have a clear, color-correct, blurred print image. This is achieved in practice by regulating devices which stretch the paper web more or less to compensate for unavoidable small fluctuations in the printing length of the colors already printed and to compensate for inaccuracies in the drive.
In order to be able to run a paper web through a machine without any creases, it must be kept under tension all the way. This is made more difficult by the fact that for the individual processing steps, such as unwinding, printing, drying, embossing, edge cutting, winding, the optimal web tensions are at different values. In addition, the optimal web tensions depend on the paper properties, i.e. they differ from paper to paper, even from batch to batch.
In order to maintain sufficient paper tension between the individual inking units, successive rotogravure rollers, for example, have circumferences that are several thousandths of a millimeter larger. In register embossing, the change in length that the paper experiences through the embossing is much larger and strongly dependent on pattern to pattern and from type of paper to type of paper. The change in length cannot be calculated, but can only be determined experimentally. The correspondingly determined size of the printing rollers only applies to exactly the paper quality used in the respective test. However, since it is already difficult for the same paper mill to keep the elongation properties of the paper constant within narrow limits, fluctuations that occur again and again in practice pose serious problems for the processor.
The invention is based on the object to provide a method by which it is possible with simple means to make a precise length adjustment and in particular to compensate for length errors and to improve the stretchability of the paper.
The object is achieved in that the paper web is subjected to a treatment process for moistening and / or a treatment process for heating, and that the degree of moistening and / or the heating temperature are adjustable.
By precisely adjusting the degree of moisture and / or the heating temperature, the elongation properties of the paper can be changed very quickly in such a way, for example with a given web tension, that a pre precise lengthwise processing of the paper web is possible. As a rule, both humidification and subsequent heating are carried out. In some cases, especially in borderline cases, where only a small change in the length of the paper web is important, a corresponding moistening or heating alone may be sufficient.
Advantageous improvements to the method according to the invention result from the method subclaims.
The invention further relates to a device for carrying out the method, which is characterized in that adjustable devices for moistening and / or heating the paper web are provided.
Advantageous refinements of the device according to the invention result from the device subclaims.

- FIG. 1 shows a side view of a device for moistening and a device for heating the paper web, combined with a register embossing machine,
- FIG. 2 shows a front view of a machine part for treating the water used for humidification,
- FIG. 3 shows another moistening device with a separate heating roller,
- Figure 4 shows another embodiment of a humidification device and
- Figure 5 in turn, another embodiment of a moistening device.
Figure 1 illustrates a device in which a winding 1 is provided in the initial part, which consists of a very long wound paper web and from which the
The
Diese Einrichtung ist zeichnerisch nicht dargestellt.FIG. 2 shows an advantageous exemplary embodiment of a supply unit for treating the water, which is intended for the
As illustrated in FIG. 1, the
Zur Erwärmung bzw. vor Erwärmung dieses Wasserfilmes kann die Rasterwalze 34 beheizt sein.FIG. 4 shows another embodiment of a moistening device in the diagram, namely a
Nachfolgend seien vorteilhafte Weiterentwicklungen bzw. Advantageous further developments or improvements of the method according to the invention are explained below. The humidification and heating are expediently carried out in at least two mutually independent steps. These measures can be carried out in the case of multiple successive treatment processes on the paper web and consequently when using a plurality of successive processing machines in each case where it is important to change the elongation behavior of the paper and to adapt it to the respective treatment process. The humidification and heating processes are controllable, separately from each other. The fact that the moisture and the temperature in the paper can be set independently of one another has a very effective influence on the paper behavior. Thanks to the precisely adjustable and controllable humidification with a very even distribution of moisture in the paper and the precise setting of the heating, an almost complete utilization of the water and heat quantities is achieved. The moistening is expediently carried out by spraying on small water droplets or water mist only on one side of the paper web. For heating, the paper web is expediently guided over a heated surface. The side of the paper web that was previously moistened should come into contact with the heated surface.
Depending on the application, cold water or water at room temperature or heated water can be used. In the area of the heated surface, the water is then expediently heated to a temperature which is close to the evaporation temperature. If, according to a further proposal, the paper web is guided tightly over a box filled with spray droplets or water mist and opened to the paper web, with appropriate regulation practically no water vapor escapes to the outside, so that the water used is used almost completely to moisten the paper web.
Another finding in this context is that the hotter the water, the faster it penetrates the paper. But not there If enough time is available, some of the water can stick to the underside of the paper web. The water that has not yet been absorbed by the paper fibers but is still in the cavities between or outside on the paper web is evaporated on the heating surface or the heating roller in such a way that it penetrates directly into the paper fibers. When leaving the heating surface or the heating roller, the outer surfaces of the paper web are dry, so that there are no difficulties with regard to winding and unwinding, such as occur with a moist paper web with moist surfaces. The heating power of the heated surface or the heating roller is thus adjusted or regulated in such a way that the water applied penetrates or evaporates into the interior of the paper web and the outer surfaces of the paper web are dry. As is known, paper webs that can be described as dry still contain a residual moisture content of about 5 percent by weight. With such a low moisture content, however, the stretching behavior of the paper is very inadequate. In the context of the invention, it has proven to be expedient to increase the moisture content of the paper web to about 10 to 12 percent by weight on the inside and, as said, to dry only the outer surfaces.
Another major advantage is the low speed dependence of the moisture in the paper web. If necessary, the escaping steam can also be collected from a cavity in the
It is often expedient to bring the web tension to a different value during moistening than in the upstream or downstream processing phases. This can be achieved for example with the help of tension measuring rollers or dancer rollers or additional known regulators. In addition, web tension control can be carried out during and after moistening, for example by a tension measuring roller and electronically controlled drive of the heating roller.
The precise metering of humidification and / or heating according to the invention can on the one hand compensate for length errors in the paper web, and on the other hand improve the stretchability of the paper. In this way, errors in the determination or compliance with the printing roller circumferences can also be compensated for. The process even enables the processor to use papers of various origins. Because of its greater fault tolerance, the time-consuming and costly empirical determination of the pressure roller circumference can be replaced by an estimate.
