Description

The present invention relates to strip slitting installations and it relates more particularly to a device making it possible to ensure a counter-traction uniformly distributed over a set of strips which is present at the winding, on the same drum.

The most common application of this device is envisaged for the winding of the strips at the outlet of a metal slitting line, in particular of metals which have a fragile surface.

Slitting wide strips, of a generally metallic material, consists in cutting a strip appearing in reel, in the direction of the length, that is to say that one starts from a long sheet, in great width , to form leaves of the same length but in small width.

A conventional slitting installation generally comprises, as indicated in FIG. 1 of the attached drawing:
  • an unwinder 1,
  • a deflector 2,
  • for example a multi-wheel shear 3,
  • a reel 4.

It should be noted that the fact of longitudinally cutting a strip of large width does not make it possible to present, on the reel mandrel, strips also stretched, this because of the possible thickness differences between the center and the edges of the strip or else due to the internal tensions of the wide strip released by the cutting operation. On the other hand, at the winding, each of the coils formed must be separated from its neighbor by mechanical means to avoid overlapping of the bands. If this separation occurs while the bands separation takes place while the strips are under tension, the edges of the split strips are generally damaged.

On the other hand, it is very important not to damage the surface of the products used on a slitting equipment. If it is possible to use a simple press before rewinder for hot rolled steels for example, this technique is completely excluded:
  • for cold rolled steels with fragile surfaces,
  • for all coated or painted metals,
  • for bright stainless steels,
  • for aluminum, etc ...

Cette séparation s'opère par un séparateur droit ou tournant, qui est un ensemble connu, désigné par la référence 5 à la figure 1.The device of the invention is necessarily used on a line called "with loop", the kinematics of which has been known for a long time, that is to say that the shears cut the strips into a pit, before they are present to the winding. This technique has the effect of facilitating the separation of the strips while they are tension free at the outlet of the pit. This separation is effected by a straight or rotating separator, which is a known assembly, designated by the reference 5 in FIG. 1.

Between this separator 5 and the reel 4 is inserted the device of the invention which has been shown diagrammatically in FIG. 1, designated as a whole by the reference 6.

Band slitting systems are already known which include a tensioning device making it possible to brake simultaneously and without friction a set of bands which is wound on the same drum, in which the necessary braking force is transmitted to two layers endless belts between which the belts pass so that the belts can have different speeds, respectively equal to the speeds of the slit belts to be braked.

Thus, US-A-3,735,937, which is considered to be the closest state of the art, relates to an installation for the continuous slitting of sheet metal strips using belts based on a mixture of steel and polyurethane arranged in layers.

The experience resulting from the implementation of these known installations shows that the latter have a drawback which results from the wear of the belts of the tensioning device. In fact, it can be seen that these belts wear unevenly over their thickness, in particular due to:
  • different speeds,
  • the ply of the belts corresponding in width to the maximum width of the slit strip ply, and this possibility of maximum width not being always used, it is always the same belts which are stressed and which correspond to the ply of maximum width of the bands.

This results in very uneven wear of all of the belts of the braking device and therefore, the braking of the bands is no longer constant after a short period of use which requires frequent changes of belts.

The invention proposes to remedy these drawbacks by providing a strip slitting installation comprising a tensioning device making it possible to brake simultaneously and without friction a set of strips presenting themselves for winding on the same drum, in which the force necessary braking is transmitted to two layers of endless belts between which the slit belts pass-so that the belts can have different speeds, respectively equal to the speeds of the slit belts to be braked, and in which the braking force is d firstly applied directly to the belts of the upper ply via an upper clamping plate and secondly to the lower ply via a lower clamping plate, characterized in that said clamping plate is constituted by a plurality of tubes, the number of which is identical to the number of pairs of belts and the width of the upper surfaces of which is identical to that of the belts, the tubes being covered with a wear sheet of high hardness and low thickness, and in that the braking force is transmitted to the two upper and lower clamping plates by means of an inflatable chamber interposed between said lower plate and the frame of the installation, so to obtain a uniform distribution of the braking force on each belt.

According to a preferred embodiment of this invention, the wear sheet forming part of the lower clamping plate is a sheet of stainless steel and it is stretched longitudinally over the tubes forming part of this lower plate, the assembly being carried out so as to be able to easily change this wear sheet.

According to a preferred embodiment of this invention, the upper braking plate is produced in the form of a hollow box in which circulates a cooling fluid, in particular water and the tubes constituting the lower clamping plate have a section straight square or rectangular and they are traversed by a coolant, such as water.

According to the invention, the clamping force is transmitted to the two braking plates, upper and lower, by means of an inflatable chamber interposed under said lower plate and the frame of the installation, this chamber preferably being of tonic form, made of a deformable polymer and supplied by a compressed air generator, the pressure of which is adjusted to vary the amount of braking at will.

Other characteristics and advantages of this invention will emerge from the description given below with reference to the appended drawing which illustrates an exemplary embodiment thereof. On the drawing :
  • FIG. 1 is a schematic view as a whole showing the slitting line, described briefly in the above description, and in which the device 6 according to the invention is installed,
  • FIG. 2 is a schematic elevation view illustrating the device which is the subject of the invention and,
  • Figure 3 is a sectional view along 3-3 of Figure 2 on an enlarged scale.

Referring to Figure 1 of the drawings, there is designated by reference 6 the device object of this invention. In Figure 2 where the device 6 is shown in more detail, it can be seen that the slit strips 8 are pinched by sets of belts 11, 11 'then deflected by a deflection roller 7 before being presented on the reel 4 As can be seen in the drawing, the belts of each of the plies of belts 11 and 11 ′ are constituted by a plurality of elements of small width, for example of the order of 15 to 50 mm as required. . These belts are wound on pulleys 9, 10 and 9 ', 10' respectively. Of course, the belts are guided laterally by any suitable known device so as to obtain correct winding.

As indicated above, the invention provides means for transmitting a braking force to the two plies of belts 11 and 11 'making it possible to brake simultaneously and without friction all of the slit bands 8 which are present at the winding on the drum 4. This braking or friction force is applied to the belts themselves, in line with the tightening of the latter on the bands 8.

This braking device is shown in detail in Figures 2 and 3. It essentially comprises an upper clamping plate 12 and a lower clamping plate 13, 16. The upper clamping plate 12 is produced in the form of a box hollow in which a cooling fluid such as water can circulate, the lower flat surface of this box 12, located opposite the ply of belts 11 coming to apply directly on the upper face of these belts 11 to transmit the braking force by these belts with the split bands 8. The lower clamping plate comprises a plurality of tubes such as 13, the number and the upper surface of which (active braking surface) are identical to those of the belts of the ply 11 ' (as can be seen in Figure 3), the tubes 13 being covered with a wear sheet 16, of great hardness, intended to transmit the braking force to the belts of the ply 11 '. This braking force is applied to the tubes 13 by means of an inflatable membrane or chamber 14 interposed between the tubes 13 and the frame 17 'of the device. In this embodiment, the tubes 13 have a square cross section, the upper surface of which corresponds to that of the belts of the ply 11 'to be braked and they are traversed by a cooling fluid, in particular water. The wear sheet 16 can be produced in the form of a stainless steel sheet, of small thickness, having a good coefficient of friction and a high hardness, for example of 62 HRC. This wear sheet is stretched longitudinally on the tubes 16, as can be seen in Figures 2 and 3, this assembly being carried out so as to be able to easily change this wear sheet.

The inflatable chamber 14 which transmits the braking force to the upper and lower braking plates is preferably toroidal in shape and is made in particular from deformable polymer. This chamber can be inflated using compressed air supplied by a generator, the pressure of which is adjusted so as to vary the value of the braking at will.

The particular configuration of the lower braking plate allows easy adaptation to the different thicknesses of bands 8 to be braked individually and then wound on the drum 4. The disadvantage mentioned above of very uneven wear of the parts making up the braking plates of the installations currently carried out, do not exist in the device according to the invention described above, thanks to the original design of the lower braking plate, and thus excellent resistance of the belts 11 and 11 ′ is obtained, making it possible to double and even triple the operating time before rectification of these belts.

Claims (7)

  1. Installation for slitting bands, which comprises a tensioning device enabling an assembly of bands offered for winding onto a single drum to be braked simultaneously and without friction, in which the braking force required is transmitted to two layers of endless belts, between which the slit bands pass in such a way that the belts can have different speeds, respectively equal to the speeds of the slit bands to be braked, and in which the braking force is, on the one hand, applied directly onto the belts (11) of the upper layer by means of an upper pressing plate (12) and, on the other hand, onto the lower layer (11') by means of a lower pressing plate, characterized in that the lower pressing plate is constituted of a plurality of tubes (13), the number of which is identical to the number of pairs of belts and the width of the upper faces of which is identical to that of the belts, the tubes being covered with a wearing sheet (16) of great hardness and small thickness, and in that the braking force is transmitted to the upper (11) and lower (11') pressing plates by an inflatable chamber (14), interposed between said lower plate and the frame (17') of the installation in such a way as to obtain a uniform distribution of the braking force to each individual belt.
  2. Installation according to Claim 1, characterized in that the upper braking plate (12) is constructed in the form of a hollow box, through the internal space of which a cooling fluid such as water flows.
  3. Installation according to one of Claims 1 or 2, characterized in that the tubes constituting the lower pressing plate have a square or rectangular cross-section and are traversed by a cooling fluid such as water.
  4. Installation according to Claim 1, characterized in that said inflatable chambers are of toric form.
  5. Installation according to one of Claims 1 or 4, characterized in that said inflatable chamber is made of a deformable polymer.
  6. Installation according to one of Claims 4 or 5, characterized in that said inflatable chamber is supplied from a compressed air generator, the pressure of which is regulated to cause the braking value to be varied as desired.
  7. Installation according to any one of the preceding Claims, characterized in that said wearing sheet (16) is a sheet of stainless steel stretched longitudinally over said tubes, the mounting being constructed in such a manner as to allow this wearing sheet to be easily changed.
