Definitions
- the invention relates to a control valve for fuel injection in engines, which has a valve housing with a valve bore, an inlet channel that connects the valve bore with a fuel source, an outlet that connects the valve bore with a fuel injector, a relief channel that connects the valve bore with the Outlet connects a relief bore that connects the valve bore to a regulated source of relief fuel and has a valve spool that is rotatably and axially slidably received in the valve bore, an outlet recess connected to an annular groove in its surface and a relief recess that in the Surface of the valve spool is mounted at a distance from the outlet recess, the recesses being designed and arranged such that with each revolution of the valve spool the valve spool assumes a first set of rotational positions in which the discharge the recess connects the relief channel to the relief bore and the connection of the inlet channel to the outlet is interrupted, and a second set of rotary positions in which the outlet recess and the annular groove are connected to
- the object to be achieved with the invention is seen in a simple fuel injection system which can work at high engine speeds and by means of which the injection quantity and injection duration can be easily controlled.
- annular groove is connected to the outlet and opens into the outlet recess
- outlet recess is arranged between the annular groove and the relief recess in such a way that, in the first set of rotational positions of the valve slide, the connection of the inlet channel is interrupted to the outlet recess and in the second set of rotational positions the outlet recess sweeps over the inlet channel.
- the outlet recess seen in the axial direction, can taper from a wide end to a narrow end and the valve slide can be axially adjustable via a control rod. So that the outlet recess is pocket-shaped and approximately triangular. The entry area of the inlet channel into the recess and thus the injection quantity can be changed by an axial displacement.
- valve slide is adjustable via the control rod against the action of a resilient part, it can be easily returned to its starting position as soon as the control rod is withdrawn.
- the relief recess can also taper in the axial direction from a wide end to a narrow end, so that the amount of fuel can also be changed from the outlet to the relief bore when the control slide is moved axially.
- valve spool rotates in a simple manner and possibly at the same speed as the engine can be driven, it is further provided according to the invention that a rotatable, extending into the valve housing drive shaft with a threaded end portion is provided for the circulation of the spool, which is slidably and rotatably received in an internally threaded bore in the valve spool.
- valve slide can also be adjusted differently if it also forms a damper chamber with one end of the valve bore and a pressure chamber with the other end of the valve bore, which is connected to a pressure source via a pressure channel, the valve slide being provided with a blind bore, which is connected at one end to the damper chamber via a damper opening and at the other end to the pressure chamber.
- the resilient part can advantageously accommodate the drive shaft rotatably and displaceably and bear against the valve housing at one end and against the threaded end part at the other end.
- the control rod can expediently be guided through the damper chamber and the drive shaft through the pressure chamber.
- a fuel regulating control valve is designated by 10. Its valve housing 12 is provided with a valve bore 14 extending axially in the housing. The latter is connected to a radially extending inlet channel 16 which is connected to a high pressure fuel source, such as a fuel pump 18.
- An outlet channel 20 connects the valve bore 14 to an outlet 22, which in turn is connected to a conventional fuel injector, not shown in the drawing.
- One end of a relief channel 24 opens into the outlet 22, the other end of which leads into the valve bore 14 at a point which is at a distance from the mouth of the outlet channel 20.
- a relief bore 26 connects the valve bore 14 to a conventional relief control valve, not shown, via which the fuel pressure in the relief bore can be regulated or limited.
- An adjustment or pressure channel 28 connects the valve bore 14 to a pressure regulating valve, also not shown, which serves to control the fuel pressure in the adjustment or pressure channel.
- a valve slide 30 is rotatably and axially displaceably arranged in the valve bore 14.
- One end 32 forms a damper chamber 34 with the end wall of the valve bore 14, while its other end 36 delimits an adjustment or pressure chamber 38 into which the pressure channel 28 opens.
- the valve spool 30 has an axially extending bore 40 with a flared end portion 42, are screwed into the helical grooves 44 or the like and which is open to the pressure chamber 38.
- a damper opening 46 connects the other end of the bore 40 to the damper chamber 34, which is intended to dampen the axial vibrations of the valve spool.
- annular groove 50 is incorporated, which is separated from the end 32 by a web part 52 and is connected to the outlet channel 20.
- An outlet recess 54 is located in the periphery of the valve slide 30. It extends in the axial direction on the side remote from the web part 52 and is approximately triangular in shape with a wide end 56 which is connected to the annular groove 50 and a narrow end 58 or a tip.
- valve slide 30 has a relief recess 60, which is arranged at an axial distance from the outlet recess 54 and has a wide end 62, which tapers in the direction of the annular groove 50 to a narrow end 64. It can be seen from FIGS. 1, 3 and 4 that the relief recess 60 extends peripherally essentially by more than half the circumference, while the outlet recess 54 is only guided by a quarter of the circumference.
- the recesses 54 and 60 are dimensioned and oriented to one another such that they can alternately connect to the inlet channel 16 and the relief bore 26 when the valve slide 30 rotates, ie whenever the inlet channel 16 is connected to the outlet recess 54, the connection is the Relief bore 26 interrupted with the relief recess 60 and vice versa. In this way, with the valve slide 30 rotating, fuel under high pressure can, if necessary, pass through the inlet channel 16, the outlet recess 54, the annular groove 50 and the outlet channel 20 to the outlet 22.
- the relief bore 26 limits the pressure in the outlet 22 when the relief recess 60 connects the relief bore 26 to the relief channel 24.
- the depth of the outlet recess 54 can vary on the circumference of the valve slide 30, which, in contrast to a purely open-close control, results in a variable flow rate.
- a circumferential drive shaft 70 extends from the outside into one end of the valve housing 12 through the pressure chamber 38 and is provided with an end part 72 having helical spirals which can be screwed into the end part 42 of the bore 40 in the valve slide 30.
- a control rod 76 is slidably received by the other end of the valve housing and bears against the end 32 of the valve slide 30.
- a spiral spring 78 is still seated on the drive shaft 70 between the one end wall 80 of the valve housing 12 and the end part 72, as a result of which a force acts on the valve slide, which wants to push it in the direction of the control rod 76.
- the control valve 10 is actuated by the drive shaft 70 rotating as a function of the engine speed.
- the speed of the drive shaft should correspond to that of the engine.
- the drive can also take place at a different speed if the number and size of the recesses 54 and 60 are matched accordingly.
- the control valve described above can also be used in a conventional diesel engine if the speed of the drive shaft, the recess dimensions and the spacing ratios are selected accordingly.
- the valve slide 30 Via the rotating drive shaft 70, the valve slide 30 is set in rotation, so that with each rotation for a certain period of time during a partial rotation, fuel can reach the outlet 22 at high pressure through the outlet recess.
- the relief recess 60 connects the outlet 22 to the relief bore 26.
- Additional control can be achieved by adjusting the control rod 76, for example if it is shifted to the right with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2.
- the valve spool is also displaced to the right, as a result of which the inlet channel 16 extends to a wider part of the outlet recess 54 and the relief bore 26 extends to a smaller part the relief recess 60 strikes with each revolution of the valve slide 30. In this way, more fuel can reach the outlet 22 per revolution of the valve spool 30.
- the control rod 76 is moved to the left, the control slide 30 is also pushed to the left by the spring 78, and less fuel reaches the outlet 22 per revolution.
- the start of injection of the fuel to be injected into the engine can be made can be varied.
- the pressure in the pressure chamber 38 passes through the play between the end parts 72 and 42 into a space 81 or into the damper chamber 34, as a result of which the end part 72 with the drive shaft 70 is displaced outward against the action of the spring 78.
- the valve spool 30 is rotated relative to the drive shaft 70 via the end part 72, as a result of which the start of injection of the fuel injection is brought forward with respect to the engine.

Modern fuel injection systems work with injection pumps, which make it easier to control the injection quantity and duration. In these systems, the fuel is injected using cam-controlled pistons (US-A-3 991 723). Injection pumps are expensive and the cam drive requires the corresponding power.
The replacement of injection pumps by control valves is already known (US-A-2 385 089) and the invention is based on this known control valve. In particular, there is an annular groove permanently connected to the inlet channel in the valve slide screwed in, which is connected to the outlet recess via a radial and axial channel incorporated in the valve slide or a connecting channel provided in the surface of the valve slide.
The object to be achieved with the invention is seen in a simple fuel injection system which can work at high engine speeds and by means of which the injection quantity and injection duration can be easily controlled.
This object has been achieved according to the invention in that the annular groove is connected to the outlet and opens into the outlet recess, and the outlet recess is arranged between the annular groove and the relief recess in such a way that, in the first set of rotational positions of the valve slide, the connection of the inlet channel is interrupted to the outlet recess and in the second set of rotational positions the outlet recess sweeps over the inlet channel.
According to a further proposal of the invention, the outlet recess, seen in the axial direction, can taper from a wide end to a narrow end and the valve slide can be axially adjustable via a control rod. So that the outlet recess is pocket-shaped and approximately triangular. The entry area of the inlet channel into the recess and thus the injection quantity can be changed by an axial displacement.
If the valve slide is adjustable via the control rod against the action of a resilient part, it can be easily returned to its starting position as soon as the control rod is withdrawn.
The relief recess can also taper in the axial direction from a wide end to a narrow end, so that the amount of fuel can also be changed from the outlet to the relief bore when the control slide is moved axially.
So that the valve spool rotates in a simple manner and possibly at the same speed as the engine can be driven, it is further provided according to the invention that a rotatable, extending into the valve housing drive shaft with a threaded end portion is provided for the circulation of the spool, which is slidably and rotatably received in an internally threaded bore in the valve spool.
If necessary, the valve slide can also be adjusted differently if it also forms a damper chamber with one end of the valve bore and a pressure chamber with the other end of the valve bore, which is connected to a pressure source via a pressure channel, the valve slide being provided with a blind bore, which is connected at one end to the damper chamber via a damper opening and at the other end to the pressure chamber.
In particular, the resilient part can advantageously accommodate the drive shaft rotatably and displaceably and bear against the valve housing at one end and against the threaded end part at the other end.
The control rod can expediently be guided through the damper chamber and the drive shaft through the pressure chamber.

Its
In the
Furthermore, the
