Description

The invention relates to a burner insert, in particular for candle-shaped luminous elements, consisting of an essentially cylindrical can, which can be filled with liquid fuel, with a wick protruding on the top, which is guided in a guide tube inserted centrally into the top, and the lower end of which at least to the bottom the can is sufficient, the top of the can being designed as a screw-on cover, which is screwed with an external thread provided at its lower area into an internal thread arranged at the edge of the cylindrical can and with a sealing ring inserted between a sealing edge on the cover and a sealing edge on the can is sealed and which is provided with a central passage in which the guide tube with the wick is inserted.

A burner insert of this type is known from US-A-4 781 577. The guide tube for the wick is screwed into the unscrewable cover in such a way that its upper edge projects beyond the upper edge of the cover. The flame burning above the edge of the lid in this known burner insert is very sensitive to side winds and burns relatively uneasily.

The invention has for its object to improve a burner insert of the type described above so that its flame burns quietly and evenly under unfavorable conditions.

Starting from a burner insert according to the preamble of claim 1, this object is achieved according to the invention in that the cover has a recessed upper side and is provided in the vicinity of the upper edge with a plurality of air holes distributed over the circumference.

The combustion air flowing in from all sides below the flame stabilizes the flame and thus also calms down and burns off evenly.

The burner insert according to the invention can be opened effortlessly by unscrewing the lid, can then be filled with liquid fuel from a storage container and then sealed again. If necessary, the wick can also be replaced.

Further features of the invention can be found in claims 2 to 5.

In the following description, an embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing. The drawing shows a longitudinal section through a burner insert according to the invention.

In the drawing, the burner insert consists of an essentially cylindrical can 1 with a screw-off lid 2. On the top of the lid 2, a wick 3 protrudes, which is guided in a guide tube 4, which is inserted into a central passage in the lid 2. The passage is designed so that a ventilation channel between the guide tube 4 and let through remains free. At its lower area, the cover is provided with an external thread 6 for 2 minutes. The external thread 6 is screwed into an internal thread 7 of a threaded ring 8 which is rolled up at the upper edge of the can 1 made of metal by the extrusion process. For sealing, a sealing ring 9 is inserted between a sealing edge 10 on the cover 2 and a sealing edge 11 on the can 1. After filling in the liquid fuel, the same reliable tightness is achieved in this arrangement by firmly screwing on the lid as in the known, non-opening cans.

In order to achieve a steady and evenly burning flame and to give the candle-shaped luminous body an appearance that approximates that of a candle that burns as naturally as possible, the cover 2 of the burner insert has a recessed upper side 12 and is near its upper edge with a plurality of air holes distributed around the circumference 13 provided, which are advantageously directed obliquely upwards from the circumference of the cover to the center thereof. It is also advantageous if the guide tube 4 for the wick 3 protrudes slightly above the upper edge of the lid 2. An unobstructed but low-draft air access to the flame is ensured with this arrangement and the well-ventilated recess around the flame prevents the lid from heating up undesirably. The recess 12, the wall of which can be reflective, also enables a free emission of the light, which can also shine through the air holes 13 to the upper edge of the candle-like hollow body in which the burner insert is to be inserted.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the top 12 of the lid 2 has a concave curvature and the central passage for the guide tube 4 is surrounded by an upstanding collar 14 which ends below the level of the air holes 13 and the guide tube 4 upwards a conical extension 15, which limits the insertion into the collar 14 and the height of which is designed such that the wick 3 is released somewhat above the upper edge of the cover 2. In this embodiment, the insertion or replacement of the wick is particularly simple and the wick is held securely with flames at the desired height.

In order to facilitate screwing and unscrewing the cover 2, its circumference is provided with a knurling 16.

The burner insert according to the invention is not only suitable for candle-shaped lamps, but can also be used advantageously for lanterns and party lights for the garden and terrace. Several burner inserts can also be put together in multi-lamp filaments. Flames of different colors can be achieved by adding different additives to the liquid fuel.

The screw-on lid 2 can be screwed onto cans of different heights, so that the burner insert can be adapted to the respective purpose.
