Die Nadelzunge ist deshalb in dem Zungenschlitz des Nadel­schaftes eng geführt und mit ihrem Zungenlöffel auf die Hakenspitze ausgerichtet, derart, daß trotz des mit Rücksicht auf eine leichte Verschwenkbarkeit er­forderlichen axialen und radialen Lagerspieles der Zungenlöffel im geschlossenen Zustand einwandfrei auf dem Nadelkopf aufliegt. Dieses Lagerspiel und bei der Maschen­bildung auf die Nadelzunge und den Nadelkopf einwirkende Seitenkräfte, die beispielsweise bei einer Rundstrickma­schine von der Drehbewegung des Nadelzylinders und der Rippscheibe herrühren, können zur Folge haben, daß wegen des unvermeidlichen axialen Spiels und des Verschleißes die Na­delzunge, insbesondere nach längerer Betriebsdauer, seitlich ausgelenkt wird, mit dem Ergebnis, daß ihr Zungenlöffel nicht mehr mittig auf dem Nadelkopf aufliegt und an dem der Nadel benachbarten Strick­werkzeug, beispielsweise einer benachbarten Platine, streift. Wegen dieser niedrigen Schafthöhe ist die Stabilität der Zungennadel in dem an den Kopf anschließenden Schaftbereich entsprechend vermindert. Unter der Ein­wirkung von Seitenkräften, die beim Maschenbildungs­vorgang an dem Kopf-und dem Kehlbereich der Nadel an­greifen und u.a. von der Warenabzugsvorrichtung her­rühren, wird die Nadel nicht nur um das dem notwendi­gen Spiel zwischen den Nadelbettwänden und dem Nadel­schaft entsprechende, vorgegebene Maß aus ihrer Symmetrielage heraus zu der entsprechenden Nadelbettwand hin bewegt, sondern es wird auch der aus dem Nadelbett vorragende maschen­bildende Teil der Zungennadel zwangsläufig elastisch etwas aus seiner ursprünglich mittigen Lage heraus zur Seite gedrückt. Bei einer aus der DE-PS 31 40 386 bekannten Zungennadel ist eine Abhilfe in der Weise versucht worden, daß der Zungenlöffel, bezogen auf die Symmetrieebene des Zungen­schaftes, zu einer Seite des Nadelschaftes hinweisend schräg gestellt ist, um damit zu gewährleisten, daß in der Schließstellung, und zwar sowohl in der Ruhe­stellung der Zungennadel als vor allem auch während des Strick- oder Wirkvorganges, wenn die Nadelzunge infolge der Seitenkräfte an die Zungenschlitzwand angedrückt wird, die Auflage des Zungenlöffels auf dem Nadelkopf gewährleistet ist. Solche Zungennadeln haben sich in der Praxis gut bewährt. In dem Bestre­ben, den Nadelhub weiter zu verringern, und damit die Strickgeschwindigkeiten zu erhöhen, werden aber heute Zungennadeln zunehmend mit sehr kurzer Scharnierlänge hergestellt, wobei die Zungenlänge teilweise nur noch 2 mm einschließlich Zungenlöffel beträgt.
