Abstract

A filling opening 12 for filling lubricating oil into an internal-combustion engine is proposed. This filling opening is provided with a closing cover 15 which has a bayonet-type closure. On the outer side of the wall of the filling opening 12 there is arranged an oil separator 22 into which the blow-through gases emerging from the crank case pass and are fed to the induction pipe or to the pure air side of the air filter. The oil collected in the oil separator 22 is returned via a return opening 23, 24 between the oil separator 22 and the filling opening 12. When oil is being poured into the filling opening 12, in order to avoid this oil passing into the oil separator 22 and rising there, so that under some circumstances it can penetrate as far as the pure air side of the air filter, a closing part 25, constructed as a rotary slide valve, is provided inside the filling opening 12, which closing part closes the return opening 23, 24 between the oil separator 22 and the filling opening 12 when the closing cover 15 is removed. This closure would take place in a forced manner by rotation of the closing cover 15 during opening. When the closing cover 15 is closed, the return openings 23, 24 are released. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a filling opening for filling lubricating oil into an internal combustion engine according to the preamble of the main claim.

Such filler openings are expediently arranged on the valve chamber cover and generally consist of a tubular filler neck which is closed with a lid with a bayonet lock.

It is also known to supply the blow-by gases which form in the crankcase via an oil separator to the intake manifold or the clean air side of the air filter. The oil collected in the oil separator should be returned to the oil circuit. It has therefore proven to be advantageous to arrange the oil separator, which separates the oil contained in the blow-by gas, directly at the filler opening and to establish a connection between the oil separator and filler opening, so that the separated oil can flow back into the valve chamber. However, it has been shown that when filling oil into the filler opening, particularly if very large amounts of oil are filled in a short time, there is a risk that this oil will penetrate into the oil separator and possibly into the connecting line from the oil separator to the suction pipe respectively. reaches the clean air side of the filter. The consequence of this would be to make the air filter cartridge unusable by the inflowing oil.

The object of the invention is therefore to avoid this disadvantage, i.e. to design the oil filler neck in such a way that it prevents the oil from flowing back into the oil separator.

This object is achieved on the basis of the type mentioned above by the characterizing features of the main claim.

A major advantage of the invention is that no additional measures are required when filling oil, such as closing a valve, but that the effective sealing of the return opening of the oil separator against the fill opening is forced upon opening the fill opening and thus incorrect operation is excluded. Likewise, the release of the return opening takes place without the need for additional handles, so that it is guaranteed in any case that with a closed fill opening the oil collected in the oil separator can flow back into the valve chamber unhindered.

It is furthermore advantageous that the closure part designed as a rotary slide valve requires only a very small amount of space and thus the filling of the oil is not hindered by this closure part.

According to a development of the invention, it is provided that the oil separator is arranged in a ring around the filler opening, with several return openings being provided. The closure part is then expediently designed as a sleeve which has a thin wall thickness has and lies against the inside of the wall of the filler opening. This sleeve is provided with openings that open the return openings. Such a sleeve can be inserted in a simple manner during assembly of the filler opening. The closure part remains fixed in this installation position by means of a flange at the lower edge.

According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the operative connection between the closure lid and the closure part consists of a positive, releasable connection which is formed on the closure part by a web-shaped nose, via which a driving fork arranged on the closure lid engages. Of course, there is the possibility of providing other types of active connections. The arrangement of a pin which engages in a bore would also be conceivable. It is essential in such configurations that the rotary movement of the closure cover is transmitted to the closure part.

According to a further development, in order to avoid an unintentional rotary movement, the closure part is provided with cams which engage in recesses in the positions in which the oil separator is closed or open. These cams can e.g. be arranged in the plane of the return openings and engage in the return openings in the closed position.

It has also proven to be advantageous to provide the closure part with a sieve-shaped bottom, provided that the filling opening is not itself equipped with such a bottom. This floor serves to protect the valve chamber against the penetration of solid objects.

The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments. The same parts are provided with the same reference numbers.

In Figure 1, the upper part of a valve chamber cover 10 is shown. On this valve chamber cover, a housing 11 is fastened, which encloses a filling opening 12. A sealing ring 13 is provided between the housing 11 and the valve chamber cover. The filling opening 12 is tubular and has an inner part 13 which is welded to the housing 11 at the weld seam 14. Both parts are molded plastic parts.

The filling opening 12 can be closed with a closure cap 15. This cover has a conventional bayonet lock. The housing 11 is provided with a coarse grid 16. This coarse grille retains objects that unintentionally get into the filling opening. A cavity 17, which has the function of an oil separator, is located in a ring around the filling opening between the housing 11 and the inner part 13. The oil separator is provided with a first connection piece 19. This connecting piece is connected to the crankcase via a hose connection. The ones in the crankcase themselves Blow-by gases are supplied to the oil separator via this connecting piece 19. A baffle 18 serves to better de-oil the blow-by gases. This baffle 18 is annular and arranged on the inner part 13. In the upper area of the oil separator there are two further connecting pieces 20, 21. The blow-by gas emerges through these two connecting pieces and is led either to the suction pipe via the connecting piece 20 or to the clean air side of the air filter via the connecting piece 21. When the throttle valve is closed or not very open, the blow-by gases are fed to the engine via the connecting piece 20 due to the higher negative pressure in the intake manifold. When the throttle valve is open, the blow-by gases reach the intake air area via the connecting piece 21 due to the higher negative pressure on the filter clean air side. The oil collected in the oil separator 22 flows back into the valve chamber via openings 23, 24.

If lubricating oil is poured in via the filler opening 12, there is a risk that the oil will back up in the filler opening 12 when the filler 12 is poured in very rapidly and thus also backflow into the oil separator 22 via the openings 23, 24. This oil that has entered the oil separator 22 can possibly rise there and reach the suction pipe or the clean air side of the air filter through the connecting pieces 20, 21. In order to prevent the lubricating oil from flowing into the oil separator 22, the openings 23, 24 are closed when the closure cover 15 is opened. This takes place via a closure part 25. The closure part is a cylindrical hollow body which has openings 26, 27 aligned in its lower region with the openings 23, 24 and is rotatably fastened within the inner part 13.

Ein Flanschansatz 28 verhindert ein axiales Verschieben des Verschlußteiles 25.The closure part 25 is inserted into the housing 11 before the housing 11 is welded to the inner part 13 and is fixed by the flange shoulder 28 after the welding. A flange shoulder 28 prevents the closure part 25 from moving axially.

To close the openings 23, 24, the closure part 25 is rotated. This rotary movement takes place in a positively guided manner via the closure cover 15. For this purpose there is a web 29 on the closure part 25 (FIG. 1a). This web is surrounded by a driving fork 30, which is attached to the closure cap 15, so that the rotational movement of the closure cap 15 is transmitted directly to the closure part 25. When the closure cover 15 is closed, the closure part 25 is in the position shown in FIG. the openings 23, 24 are free due to the aligned position of the openings 26, 27. The oil collected in the oil separator can run off unhindered. If the cap 15 is opened, this is done by rotating the cap 15 by 90 degrees. This rotation closes the openings 23, 24, so that when the oil is poured back into the oil separator 22, the oil cannot backflow.

To prevent an unintentional rotary movement of the closure part 25 when the closure lid 15 is open, cams 31, 32 are provided on the closure part 25 in the plane of the openings 23, 24, as shown in FIG. 1c. These cams protrude into the openings 23, 24 in the closed position. This ensures that when the closure lid is placed on the filler opening, the driving fork 30 comes to rest over the web 29 and the closure part 25 is carried along by the rotation of the closure lid.

Die Funktion des flachen Verschlußteils 33 entspricht der Funktion des in Figur 1 gezeigten Verschlußteiles 25.A variant of the closure part 25 is shown in Figure 2. Here, too, the oil separator is located directly at the fill opening 12, as shown in FIG. 1. A flat closure part 33 is inserted in the inner part 13. This closure part also has a flange shoulder 28 to avoid axial displacement. The flat closure part lies directly on the coarse grid 16 and has a base 34, which is also designed as a coarse grid. In the middle of the bottom 34 this is reinforced and provided with a square opening. A square tube 36 engages in this square-shaped opening. This square tube is arranged on the closure cover 15 and transmits the rotary movement of the closure cover 15 to the flat closure part 33. The function of the flat closure part 33 corresponds to the function of the closure part 25 shown in FIG. 1.

Of course, there is also the possibility of providing other types of transmission means which transmit the movement of the closure cover to a closure part. For example, it would also be possible to use the axial movement of the closure cover 15 to open and close the oil separator. All that is required is a suitable transmission element.
