Definitions
- the invention relates to a chair, in particular office chair, with a height-adjustable backrest on a backrest support made of two telescopically vertically displaceable parts: one of which is fastened to the backrest, the other to the support structure and which is in different relative positions to one another by a locking device with catches for a locking ball can be fixed, which is assigned an unlocking button.
- a known chair with a height-adjustable backrest of this type (DE 36 35 244 A1) engages with one of the two parts which can be moved into one another directly from below into the backrest, while the other of the two parts with its lower end is attached to the seat support. When projected horizontally, the entire device is located under the backrest. In addition, with this construction, the backrest support is only exposed for a short distance. This makes it necessary to attach the unlocking lever laterally for unlocking the two telescopically displaceable parts. However, one-handed adjustment is no longer possible. Rather, it has to be gripped with one hand of the backrest support and the unlocking push-button actuated, while the desired height adjustment of the backrest is carried out with the other hand.
- a backrest support with telescopically displaceable parts is also known, which is connected at its upper end to the backrest via a U-shaped, horizontally lying connection. Due to its shape, this part is difficult to grasp with one hand.
- the object of the invention is to provide a backrest height adjustment for chairs for one-hand operation and at the same time ergonomically so inexpensive that the backrest support can be comfortably gripped by the hand actuating the backrest height adjustment in the area of its attachment to the backrest.
- the backrest support which is designed as a flat oval tube, is simply bent at its upper end towards the backrest.
- the backrest support can therefore be easily gripped with one hand, the shape of the flat oval tube facilitating access and a good grip with the four fingers with the exception thumb allowed from behind.
- the thumb comes to rest on the top of the backrest support.
- the unlocking pushbutton for the locking device is arranged precisely at this point, that is to say above the envelope of the backrest support in the region of the offset. It is therefore sufficient for one hand of the user, which embraces the backrest support, actuates the unlocking button with the thumb, and then adjusts the backrest up or down as desired.
- the flat oval shape of the backrest support is made possible simply by the fact that the upper backrest support part has two slide rods which are fixed parallel to one another at a distance from one another in the upper backrest support part.
- Such parallel slide rods are known as stable and at the same time simple components and have been tried and tested.
- the ergonomically favorable cross-sectional shape of the backrest support is also supported by the selection of this known guide.
- the selected construction further supports the placement of a shift rod for connecting the locking device to the unlocking push button. This can namely now be accommodated in the space between the two slide rods, without the stability and the good management of the device having to suffer as a result.
- the stability of the slide rods mounted in the upper backrest support part is further supported in that their lower free ends are connected by the ball link to receive the locking ball and are thus stabilized.
- the result is an elegant backrest support that can be gripped comfortably and allows one-handed operation of the height adjustment.
- a screw plate 10 is used to fasten the backrest, not shown, through which the backrest is screwed from behind.
- the screw plate 10 can be pivoted at the front end of the backrest support about a horizontal transverse axis 12 supported there in a limited frame.
- a damping rubber 14 inserted between the front end of the backrest support and the screw plate 10 prevents a hard stop and always gives the backrest in the same basic position.
- the connecting structure of the backrest support to the backrest is optically covered by an articulated cap 16.
- the backrest support consists of two vertically displaceable parts, of which the upper backrest support part 18 is firmly connected to the backrest via the screw plate 10 and the lower backrest support part 20 is firmly connected to the support structure of the office chair.
- the upper backrest support part 18 is bent at its upper end connected to the backrest from the vertical by 90 °, as can be clearly seen in FIGS. 1 and 3.
- the upper backrest support part 18 consists of a support part 22 made of plastic, into which the heads of two slide rods 24 with a circular cross section are cast.
- the slide rods 24 are parallel to each other vertically and at a distance from each other, so that a space remains between them.
- the two slide rods 24 are connected at their free lower end by a ball link 26, which is fixed by locking washers 28 on the free end of the slide rods.
- the support part 22 is solid in the area of its connection to the backrest and also includes the slide rod heads still solid, as can be seen in particular from the illustrations in FIGS. 4 and 5.
- the support part 22 of the upper backrest support part 18 is excluded in its lower region for receiving the lower backrest support part 20, as can be seen in FIGS. 1 and 6.
- the complete covering of the parts accommodated in the interior of the upper backrest support part 18 is supplemented by an inner cover 30 which, as can again be clearly seen in FIG. 6, is inserted into a tongue and groove connection at the outer ends of the support part 22.
- the inner cover 30 is moreover firmly connected to the carrier part 26 by a fastening means, for example by a screw.
- the unlocking push-button 32 projects upwards through an opening on the upper side of the carrier part 22, specifically at the ergonomically correct location for actuation with the thumb of the hand which engages under the upper backrest carrier part 18 for height adjustment.
- the unlocking push-button 32 is snapped onto the upper end of a shift rod 34.
- This shift rod is arranged in the middle between the slide rods 24 and parallel to them vertically.
- the carrier part 22 has a corresponding recess in its upper section (FIG. 4, FIG. 5), while the shift rod otherwise runs inside the envelope formed from the parts 22 and 30 or inside the lower backrest carrier part 20, which is likewise hollow .
- the switching rod 34 made of plastic has at its lower end a cylindrical guide rod 36 (Fig.
- the shift rod 34 now has a trapezoidal recess 40 in the region of the spherical link 26, as is particularly shown in FIG. 1 in detail.
- the spherical link 26 also has a recess 42 in its interior.
- the recesses 40 and 42 cooperate, depending on the relative position of the ball link 26 and the shift rod 34, in order to receive a locking ball 44 inside them or through an oblique opening 46 in the outer wall of the ball link with the help of one of the inclined surfaces of the trapezoidal recess 40 of the switch rod 34 to the outside to press.
- the spherical link 26 has a horizontal wall at the top, against which the locking ball 44 runs when it is pressed upwards by the recess 40 of the shift rod 34 in its locking position shown in FIG. 1.
- the locking ball 44 can fall into the recess 40 of the switching rod along an obliquely downward and rearward sloping surface of the oblique opening 46, so that the locking ball no longer protrudes beyond the circumference of the spherical link and therefore causes no locking with a locking device 48 to be described in more detail below.
- the lower backrest support part 20 is also designed as a flat oval tube, in such a way that it can be displaced vertically telescopically in the hollow interior of the envelope of the upper backrest support part 18 formed from the support part 22 and inner cover 30.
- a locking device 48 in the form of a plastic part is inserted in the interior of the flat oval tube forming the lower backrest support part 20. This is done in such a way that the latching device 48 is fixed immovably relative to the flat oval tube forming the lower backrest support part 20.
- the latching device 48 has a flange-like radial projection at its upper end 50 with which the latching device 48 is supported at the upper end of the flat oval tube forming the lower backrest part 20.
- This flat oval tube also has a window 52 in a wall section slightly below its upper end, in which a locking lug 54 of the latching device engages elastically.
- the locking lug has a horizontal support surface with which it engages under the horizontal boundary of the window 52 located above.
- the latching device 48 now also has a series of depressions 56 one above the other. For example, ten such depressions can be provided over a distance of 8 cm, thus allowing a total height adjustment of 8 cm.
- the recesses 56 are, as intended for receiving the locking ball 44, circular in plan view, but rectangular in side view (FIG. 1).
- the recesses 46 are so flat that the locking ball 44 only engages in the recesses to a maximum of a third of their diameter.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a chair, in particular office chair, with a height-adjustable backrest on a backrest support made of two telescopically vertically displaceable parts: one of which is fastened to the backrest, the other to the support structure and which is in different relative positions to one another by a locking device with catches for a locking ball can be fixed, which is assigned an unlocking button.
A known chair with a height-adjustable backrest of this type (
However, a backrest support with telescopically displaceable parts is also known, which is connected at its upper end to the backrest via a U-shaped, horizontally lying connection. Due to its shape, this part is difficult to grasp with one hand.
The object of the invention is to provide a backrest height adjustment for chairs for one-hand operation and at the same time ergonomically so inexpensive that the backrest support can be comfortably gripped by the hand actuating the backrest height adjustment in the area of its attachment to the backrest.
The solution to this problem is characterized in claim 1. Appropriate configurations are specified in the subclaims.
It can be seen that the backrest support, which is designed as a flat oval tube, is simply bent at its upper end towards the backrest. Here, the backrest support can therefore be easily gripped with one hand, the shape of the flat oval tube facilitating access and a good grip with the four fingers with the exception thumb allowed from behind. The thumb comes to rest on the top of the backrest support. The unlocking pushbutton for the locking device is arranged precisely at this point, that is to say above the envelope of the backrest support in the region of the offset. It is therefore sufficient for one hand of the user, which embraces the backrest support, actuates the unlocking button with the thumb, and then adjusts the backrest up or down as desired.
In the internal structure, the flat oval shape of the backrest support is made possible simply by the fact that the upper backrest support part has two slide rods which are fixed parallel to one another at a distance from one another in the upper backrest support part. Such parallel slide rods are known as stable and at the same time simple components and have been tried and tested. At this point, the ergonomically favorable cross-sectional shape of the backrest support is also supported by the selection of this known guide. The selected construction further supports the placement of a shift rod for connecting the locking device to the unlocking push button. This can namely now be accommodated in the space between the two slide rods, without the stability and the good management of the device having to suffer as a result. The stability of the slide rods mounted in the upper backrest support part is further supported in that their lower free ends are connected by the ball link to receive the locking ball and are thus stabilized.
The result is an elegant backrest support that can be gripped comfortably and allows one-handed operation of the height adjustment.

From an office chair, only the connection of the support structure to the backrest is shown in the figures. A
The backrest support consists of two vertically displaceable parts, of which the upper backrest support
The upper backrest support
The
From Figures 1 and 3 is in connection with the Figu Ren 2 to 6 clearly see that
The unlocking push-
As shown in FIG. 2, the unlocking push-
The
Like the
The lower
The latching
