Abstract

With this safety device, the dangerous gap between the moving step (1) and the fixed base plate (10) provided on both sides of the step conveyor on which persons can step is covered by means of an elastic plastic lip (6; 7; 8; 9) fastened to the side edges of the step (1) of an escalator in the area of the tread surface (1.1) and the front end (1.2). The plastic lip (6; 7; 8; 9) is part of a plastic insert piece (2; 3; 4; 5) which can be screwed on in corresponding recesses on both sides of the body of the step (1) in the area of the horizontal tread surface (1.1) and in the area of the arched front end (1.2). It adapts itself to the base plate (10) if there are any inaccuracies in the same and has a very low coefficient of friction. The plastic lip (6; 7; 8; 9) is secured to the step (1) in such a way that the clearance space for the passage of the step (1) through a comb arranged at the top and bottom end of the travelling distance of the escalator only has to be increased to a minimum extent, and it can be screwed onto or unscrewed from the step (1) together with the insert piece (2; 3; 4; 5) at any time without the step (1) having to be dismantled from the step conveyor. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a safety device for eliminating the gap between the tread and the front part of a moving step and a stationary base plate of an escalator arranged on both sides along the step band that can be entered.

Various safety devices on the steps of escalators are known, either by color-coding the danger zone on the side edges of the step treads, by placing protective profiles on the outermost side edges of the step surface, by protruding lateral end ribs of the step surfaces, or by completely closing off the play space between the side edges of the moving steps and the stationary base plates through plastic inserts have the same task of avoiding pinching accidents if possible.

Such a safety device, which has become known from US Pat. No. 4,519,490, has plastic parts which are clamped on the outermost or on the second lateral rib of the treads of the steps and cover the clearance between each step and the base plate with a protruding flap sliding on the base plate and / or close completely with a side insert body. It is a plastic with a low coefficient of friction compared to the base plates. The plastic parts clamped onto the ribs of the tread plates additionally require a relatively large lateral play in the upper and lower horizontal running area of the step belt when the steps pass through the combs.

A disadvantage of this device is that the clamped plastic parts in the direction of travel of the steps can be moved or even torn out of the clamped bracket. In addition to the increased lateral clearance with increased risk of pinching in the absence or displaced plastic part, there is then the increased risk of pinching in the area of the step's entry into the comb due to the increased lateral clearance.

The present invention is based on the object of proposing a protective device arranged on both sides of the steps, which is firmly and immovably connected to the step and does not require a substantial increase in the inlet clearance in the area of the step entry into the comb.

This object is achieved by the invention characterized in the first claim.

The advantages achieved by the invention can be seen essentially in the fact that the plastic lip is firmly and immovably connected to the step, and that the plastic lip attached to the outside of the outermost rib of an insert piece does not engage around any of the outer ribs and the outermost rib only minimally on the side towered over, so that the scope for the passage of the step through the comb arranged at the upper and lower ends of the accessible conveyor section, in the area of the left and the right base plate, need only be increased very little. Another advantage is that a plastic lip in operation is very easy to replace on site if damaged, even by non-specialists, by unscrewing it together with the associated insert and with a new insert with an associated securely attached plastic lip can be screwed onto the step again without the step having to be removed from the step belt.

In Figures 1-5, 1 denotes the step of an escalator. The step consists of a step surface 1.1 and a front part 1.2. On both sides of stage 1, straight plastic inserts 2; 3 and in the area of the front part 1.2 arched plastic inserts 4; 5 fastened in corresponding recesses of level 1 by screws 11. Between the two straight plastic insert pieces 6; 7, a plastic connecting insert 13 is screwed onto the rear edge of the step surface 1.1 in a corresponding recess on the body of step 1. The straight and the curved plastic inserts 2; 3; 4; 5 have corresponding elastic plastic lips 6; 7; 8th; 9, which slide against the base plates 10 arranged on both sides of the endless step belt which can be entered. 2, the plastic lip 7 is an integral part of the plastic insert 3. In the same The arrangement of a comb 12 is indicated, which is arranged in the upper and in the lower entry area of the escalator, where the endless step belt disappears under a contact plate or emerges below it, depending on the direction of travel. The slightly increased lateral margin for the passage of the plastic lip through the comb 12 is designated 12.1. In FIG. 3 the plastic lip 7 is part of a plastic piece 14 welded to the plastic insert 3 by ultrasound. In FIG. 4 the plastic lip 7 is part of a plastic piece 15 screwed together with the insert 3. In FIG. 5 the plastic lip is 7 Part of a plastic piece 16 riveted or screwed onto the insert 3. The plastic lips 7 shown in the sections of FIGS. 2 to 5 for the area of the treads 1.1 of step 1 are also basically the same in the area of the end parts 1.2. These plastic lips 8; 9 are correspondingly adapted to the curved inserts 8; 9 and also arched.

The safety device described above is installed in escalators with an endlessly extending step belt in a supporting body. The endless revolving step belt has a larger number of steps 1, preferably in die-cast aluminum, which are articulated on both sides with an endless step chain. The step belt is deflected via upper drive sprockets and lower deflecting sprockets and has an accessible lead with a lower and an upper horizontal and an inclined running area and a return arranged concealed in the supporting body. The lead of the step belt is arranged between two side handrail balustrades and is guided past fixed base plates 10 on both sides with minimal scope. These margins mean above all in the transitions of the step belt from the horizontal to the inclined running area and vice versa, where each individual step to form an elevated step surface 1.1 or the horizontal Running area executes relative movements, a latent risk of pinching clothes or body parts of the passengers. These margins are made possible by the device according to the invention with the plastic lips 6; 7; 8th; 9 covered. The as part of screw-on inserts 2; 3; 4; 5 in corresponding recesses firmly and securely connected to the movable step 1 plastic lips 6; 7; 8th; 9 rests on the stationary base plates 10 elastically. They have a very low coefficient of friction and a certain elasticity, which makes it possible to bridge slight inaccuracies in the base plates 10 and to cover the gap between the steps 1 and the base plates 10 at any time and to practically exclude the risk of pinching. The plastic lip 6; 7; 8th; 9 is on the inserts 2; 3; 4; 5 fastened so that they do not have any of the outer ribs of the insert pieces 2; 3; 4; 5 encompasses and the outer rib projects only minimally beyond the side, so that only a minimally increased lateral clearance 12.1 is required for the passage of stage 1 due to a comb 12 arranged during the transition from the accessible feed to the covered return of the step belt. The plastic lip 6; 7; 8th; 9 can at any time together with the insert 2; 3; 4; 5 can be screwed or unscrewed from level 1 without having to remove level 1 from the step belt itself.

The invention is not limited to the illustrated embodiment. It is within the scope of the invention, for example, to equip escalators with base-less balustrades with the safety device, the plastic lips instead of on base plates directly sliding against vertically arranged balustrade panels and thus covering the gap between the step and the balustrade panels.
