Claims (7)

  1. Process for coating by electrostatic sputtering with a sputtering means assuring the projection and distribution of the coating material, and before which means the components to be treated move, these components being conveyed along a path such that a single sputtering means (12) can treat alternately the two opposite faces of a component (18), said path comprising:
    - a first part (24) bringing the first face of the components opposite the sputtering means, on one of the sides of this means;
    - a second part (26, 28, 30, 32, 34) bringing the components in displacement to
    - a third part (36) ensuring that the components are presented to the sputtering means (12), these means then carrying out the deposition of the coating material onto the second face of said component (18), characterized in that the path of the components to be treated (18) is horizontal and in that said components undergo a rotation through 360° during the second part (26, 28, 30, 32, 34) of said path.
  2. Device for carrying out the method according to Claim 1, comprising an enclosure or cabin (10), in which the sputtering takes place, a sputtering head (12) positioned in said enclosure, a transporter or conveyor (22) on which the components to be treated (18) are suspended, this transporter having a configuration such that the sputtering head treats the first face of the component on said first part of the trajectory (24) and then the second face of said component on said third part (36) of the trajectory, characterized in that said conveyor (22) is horizontal and its configuration comprises a second trajectory part (26, 28, 30, 32, 34) which comprises:
    - first and second curves (26, 28), each of 90°, orientated in the same sense, followed by a substantially rectilinear portion (30) parallel to said first part (24), this portion (30) being situated outside the sputtering installation and,
    - third and fourth curves (32, 34), each of 90°, orientated in the same sense and outside the sputtering installation.
  3. Device according to Claim 2, characterized in that the first and third parts (24, 36) of the trajectory of the conveyor (22), in the sputtering coating zone, are rectilinear or have a slight curvature opposite the sputtering head (12), this curvature being centred on said head.
  4. Device according to Claim 2, characterized in that the first and third parts (24, 36) of the trajectory of the conveyor (22) are of different shapes and lengths opposite the sputtering head.
  5. Device according to any one of Claims 2 to 4, characterized in that the sputtering head (12) is fixed and is constituted of an electrostatic system, the disc or bowl of which is situated either in a horizontal plane or in a plane inclined to the horizontal.
  6. Device according to any one of Claims 2 to 5, characterized in that the presentation of the components (18) in front of the sputtering head (12) takes place either continuously, or by a rhythmical stopping of said components in a step-by-step movement.
  7. Device according to Claim 2, characterized in that the sputtering head (12) is given a sweeping movement, created by an endless chain system (16) or by a ram.
