Abstract

The invention relates to a device for securing a receptacle housing, positioned at the end of a cable, in an opening of a wall. The receptacle housing and the opening have a generally rectangular cross-sectional area and can be connected with each other in at least two positions, offset by 90 DEG from each other. The receptacle housing has detent springs which engage with the wall, from behind. A securing strap is fixed on the cable which is connected to the receptacle housing. The other end of the securing strap is connected to a cover. The cover can be mounted on the contact side of the receptacle housing. The cover can be guided through a groove-shaped recess while the securing strap is pushed through a side wall of the opening. The alignment between receptacle and opening, without impairment of the passage of the securing strap, is achieved in that the opening of the wall only has recesses for the securing strap of the cover in two side walls, located at right angles to each other. The two side walls determine a vertical and a horizontal routing of the cable to the receptacle housing.

Description

The invention relates to a device for fastening a plug attached to the end of a cable in an opening in a plate, a support or the like, in which the opening is limited by four side walls and has a substantially square cross section, the plug being the cross section of the opening adapted and in two positions offset by 90 ° can be used in the opening, the connector housing is provided on two opposite outer sides with latching springs which engage behind the plate, the carrier or the like. With a retaining strap on the cable connected to the connector is fixed, at the free end of which a cover cap is attached for plugging onto the contact side of the plug and wherein a groove-like recess is made in a side wall of the opening for the holding band to be passed through.

Such a device is known from the company brochure by CONZEN GmbH & Co. KG: Networks according to IEEE 802.5 (Token Ring), IBM cabling system, pages 11 to 15. In this known device, the cover cap is held behind the plate, the carrier or the like with the retaining band, so that the contact side of the plug can be covered and protected when not in use, ie when the mating connector is removed. In the known plugs, the cable is inserted into the connector housing via a lateral extension, the retaining band being held on the insertion socket of this extension by means of a union nut. Since only one side wall of the opening is provided with a recess for the tether, this must be independent of the connection position of the plug at the same point of the opening. This leads to difficulties if the plug with the side wall of the plug housing provided with the extension and the inlet connector for the cable does not coincide with the side wall of the opening which has the cutout for the retaining band.

This disadvantage could be avoided by providing all side walls of the opening with cutouts for the tether. This then allows all four possible positions between the connector and the opening, which can lead to difficulties in the cable routing.

It is an object of the invention to design a device of the type mentioned in such a way that only two specific positions are specified for the connection between the plug and the opening of the plate, the support or the like of the cable on the plug and thereby also stipulate the implementation of the retaining strap at the most suitable points of the breakthrough.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that the breakthrough of the plate, the carrier or the like. Has groove-like recesses for the retaining band of the cover cap only in two mutually perpendicular side walls, so that if the outside of the plug housing, which carries the cable, is assigned in one connection position to the first side wall, the retaining band is guided through a recess in this side wall, and, in the second connection position offset by 90 °, the cable carrier-carrying outside of the connector housing is assigned to the second, vertical to the first side wall , The tether is passed through the recess of this second side wall.

This ensures that the cable on the connector is assigned to a side wall of the opening, on which the retaining band with the cover cap can also be inserted without difficulty. At the same time, it is specified whether the cable is fed vertically from above or below to the connector or whether it reaches the connector horizontally from the left or the right. The opening with the cutouts in the side walls also defines the cable feed to the connector fastened in the opening.

According to one embodiment, it is provided that the opening in the corners is provided with projections projecting into the opening and that the connector housing has corresponding shoulders in the region of the corner edges.

Handling is facilitated in that the tether and the cover cap are formed in one piece and that the tether tapes the cable runs out into a retaining ring which is pushed onto the inlet socket of the connector housing and held thereon by means of a nut.

A flush passage of the tether through the plate, the carrier or the like, which is hardly noticeable, is achieved in that the cross section of the tether and the groove-like recesses in the side walls of the opening have a rectangular cross section.

The invention is explained in more detail with reference to exemplary embodiments shown in the drawings. It shows
  • Fig. 1 shows an embodiment with the plug and the breakthrough, which is designed for a supply of the cable from the left and from below, and
  • Fig. 2 shows an embodiment with the plug and the breakthrough, which is suitable for supplying the cable from the right and from below.

The opening 11 and the connector housing of the connector 20 have a substantially square cross section. Only in the corner areas does the opening 11 have projections 12 which protrude into the opening 11, while the connector housing of the connector 20 carries corresponding paragraphs 27 along the corner edges. The plate 10 can be a carrier or a housing wall and the opening 11 defines the point at which the connector 20 is attached to the plate.

In the embodiment of FIG. 1, the groove-like recesses 14 and 16 are introduced into the lower side wall 13 and into the left side wall 15 of the opening 11, which are matched in cross section to the rectangular retaining band 25 and can accommodate this when the plug in the Breakthrough 11 is engaged. For this purpose, the connector housing carries the detent springs 21 on two opposite outer sides, which engage behind the plate 10, the carrier or the like and fix the connector 20 to the same or the same.

The connector housing of the connector 20 carries on one side, which has no detent springs 21, the shoulder 22 with the insertion socket for the cable 23. The union nut 24 is screwed onto the insertion socket, which defines the cable 23 in the inlet connector. In addition, the retaining band 25, which runs out as a ring, is pushed onto the insertion socket and is clamped to the neck 22 with the union nut 24. The free end of the retaining band 25 runs out into the cover cap 26, which is preferably produced in one piece with the retaining band 25 and which serves to cover the contact side of the connector 20 when it is not connected to an identical mating connector.

If the plug 20 is snapped into the opening 11 in the position shown in FIG. 1, then the cable 23 is supplied horizontally from the left and the retaining band 25 of the cover cap 26 is behind in the recess 16 of the left side wall 15 of the opening 11 the plate 10 guided, the tether 25 from the neck 22 in the shortest possible way and without further deflections behind the plate 10. As can be seen in the recess 14 in the lower side wall 13 of the opening 11, the plug 20 can be connected in the same way to the plate 10 after a rotation by 90 ° counterclockwise, even with the extension 22 directed downwards, the cable 23 from below forth vertically to the connector 20. This means that only two specific positions for the connector 20 on the plate 10 are specified, in which a very specific horizontal or vertical guidance of the cable 23 is specified.

As the embodiment of FIG. 2 shows, only two positions can be specified for the plug 20 through the recesses 14 and 18 in the lower side wall 13 and in the right side wall 17 of the opening 11, in which a certain supply line of the cable 23 to Plug 20 is forced because only in these positions, the tether 25 with the cover cap 26 can be guided through the opening 11 of the plate 10 in the shortest possible way.

As shown in FIG. 2, the plug 20 can be snapped into the opening 11 in such a way that the retaining band 25 can be guided in the recess 14 in the side wall 13 of the opening 11 behind the plate 10. The cable 23 is then vertically guided from below to the neck 22 of the connector 20. However, the plug 20 can also be snapped into the opening 11 rotated through 90 ° counterclockwise. Then the tether 25 is guided in the recess 18 of the side wall 17 behind the plate 10 and the cable 23 is brought horizontally from the right to the connector 20.
