Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for producing a solid aerosol, such as a carbon aerosol, wherein aerosol particles are generated by spark discharge via particle-emitting electrodes, and a method for producing a solid aerosol, such as a carbon aerosol, with high mass constancy and with small reproducible particle sizes.
Various devices for generating a solid aerosol are known, for example particles can be removed from a column of compressed carbon particles by means of a brush and introduced into a gas stream from which they are discharged. To produce a coal Discharge aerosols have been proposed to discharge via two carbon electrodes arranged at a distance from one another. During spark discharge, the electrode material evaporates and individual particles condense in the space between the electrodes. A gas stream flows around the electrodes, which takes the condensed particles with them and discharges them from the device as an aerosol. In the latter device, only aerosols with a low concentration can be generated over a short time on a laboratory scale, since the electrodes "burn off" and the working conditions change, so that constant operation cannot be achieved.
The invention is therefore based on the object of further developing such a device in such a way that extremely constant particle concentrations can be achieved over a long period of time, so that such a device is suitable for the calibration of soot measuring devices, for filter tests and for inhalation experiments.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by means of a device for producing a solid aerosol, which is characterized in that the electrodes have parallel adjacent end faces, that they are provided with a feed drive which moves them synchronously with respect to one another, and that the particles produced can be carried on by a gas stream. A method according to the invention provides that individual electrical sparks with a high repetition frequency are generated by high voltage applied to the electrodes, that material is evaporated from flat, parallel end faces of the electrodes by the high-voltage spark discharge and that the smallest solid particles are formed by condensation, so that the solid particles are caused by a Gas flow are carried along and that the electrodes are moved towards each other in a controlled manner.
The invention is characterized in particular by the high voltage applied to the electrodes with individual voltage peaks of high repetition frequency for the evaporation of the electrode material. The electrode material is vaporized by individual electrical sparks that repeatedly roll over between the electrodes and is then condensed into small particles.
By means of the configuration according to the invention it can be achieved that the distance between the mutually opposite front end faces of the electrodes is automatically kept constant over a long time. A constant breakdown voltage and thus constant particle generator operation is achieved. In particular, the configuration according to the invention ensures that the electrodes always protrude symmetrically into the gas and particle guide channel and thus the electrodes are burnt off in the center of the aerosol channel.
Istwertvorgabe genommen. In a preferred development it is provided that the electrodes are driven by spindles with opposing threads, in particular the electrodes are fixed to running blocks which are in engagement with the spindles and the spindles are driven by a motor via a toothed belt. This configuration ensures uniform guidance of the electrodes, which is important for uniform erosion of the electrodes and ensuring a minimal change in the breakdown voltage. In a further embodiment, a control device for the feed drive of the electrodes can be provided. While the electrode erosion rate is basically constant, so that a controlled drive could be provided, this configuration enables a wide adjustability of the particle concentrations by automatically locking the feed control - depending on the desired particle concentration - and not different external control programs must be provided. In an extremely preferred embodiment, the regulation is carried out by a measuring device for the breakdown voltage between the opposite sides of the electrodes. By measuring the breakdown voltage, it is precisely this, the constancy of which is sought, that is used to regulate the electrode spacing and thus to maintain the desired breakdown voltage itself as a measured variable or actual value specification.
Another embodiment of the invention provides that a gas duct for carrier gas and particle flow is formed in a PTFE body. This configuration ensures that as few particles as possible remain adhering to the aerosol channel, as a result of which the discharged particle concentration could be changed.
Overall, the configuration according to the invention creates an aerosol generator, in particular for producing pure carbon aerosol, but also for producing aerosols from metals or inert gas or metal oxides when using corresponding metal electrodes, the combustion of which in the latter case oxidizes as a propellant gas in an oxygen atmosphere that calibrations of measuring devices, filter tests and inhalation experiments can be carried out comfortably and with high accuracy.

The device 1 according to the invention for generating a solid aerosol has a
The
In particular, another gas can be added here. For example, it is possible to mix in air which cannot be passed through the discharge chamber directly with or instead of the argon carrier gas, since the particles which dissolve during the discharge (carbon but also metal particles in the case of metal electrodes, if a corresponding one Aerosol is desired) would oxidize (burn) in the discharge plasma. Subsequent admixing of oxygen is therefore problem-free and cheaper than using only an inert noble gas as a carrier. The formation of the feed for the mixed gas as a nozzle 10 reliably prevents the mixed gas from penetrating into the area between the
The
In the embodiment in FIG. 5, the
The
Next to the
The GFG 1000 generates tiny carbon particles by high voltage sparks between two graphite electrodes. To avoid oxidation of the carbon, the distance between the electrodes is flushed with argon. The Indian Spark gap vaporized carbon is transported out of the area between the electrodes by the argon flow and condenses to the smallest primary particles, which, depending on the concentration, form more or less large agglomerates. The particle mass flow can be varied largely linearly within wide limits via the current strength and thus the frequency of the spark, the mass flow preferably in the range from 0 to approximately 0.1 mg / min. lies.
The electrode burn-off is compensated for by automatic tracking of the electrodes. This ensures very constant operation of the generator. The agglomerate formation can be reduced by targeted dilution of the aerosol immediately after it is formed.
