Description

The invention is based on a contact element which has a plug-in contact section on a plug-in side for mating with a mating contact element and a connection section on a connection side with a structure suitable for connection to an electrical conductor, with a section on its side facing the other section facing the one has another section directed connecting element and the other section is formed with a receptacle for the connecting element.

Such a contact element, in which a shaft arranged offset on the plug-in contact section with respect to the longitudinal axis forms a crimp connection with the receptacle on the connection section, is known from EP-A-0 240 642.

With such a contact element, it is desirable to adapt the plug contact section and the connecting section as optimally as possible to their respective intended use. For example, the plug-in contact section is often provided with contact springs which must be made of a material which has sufficient spring properties. On the other hand, the connection section e.g. consist of a material that e.g. is easily wettable with solder or is sufficiently deformable, which favors the crimping of conductors onto a crimp sleeve of the connection section.

The object of the present invention is therefore to design a contact element of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that the connection and plug-in contact section of the contact element can each be produced from the most suitable material in each case.

According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the connecting element is designed as a coaxial bolt to a longitudinal axis of the contact element and the receptacle of the other section is adapted to the bolt, and that the connecting and plug-in contact section are pressed together by pressing the bolt into the bore with an interference fit of these parts.

The bolt can also be assigned to the connection section and the bore to the plug contact section.

It can further be provided that between the connection and plug-in contact section there is provided an intermediate piece designed as a separately manageable part, and that the intermediate piece has on one side a bore adapted to the bolt and on its other side a bolt which fits into the bore of the connection or plug-in contact section .

This structure of a contact element is particularly advantageous if the contact element is to be particularly long or has a complicated structure. A material different from the material of the connection and plug contact section can then be selected for the intermediate piece.

It can further be provided that an intermediate piece provided between the connection section and the plug contact section is designed to be slidable onto the bolt.

The push-on intermediate piece advantageously makes it possible to design this part, which is otherwise formed in one piece with the connecting section, as a relatively simple to produce rotating part even if the connecting section itself cannot be designed as a rotating part. Furthermore the intermediate piece serves to create a groove-like depression between the connection and plug-in contact section, which, for example, receives the edge of the bore of a front plate on which the contact element is to be fixed.

Finally, it can also be provided that each bolt of a plug contact or connection section has at least the same outside diameter.

In this way, there is the main advantage of the contact element according to the invention, namely that differently shaped connection and plug contact sections can be combined as desired for a contact element adapted to the respective intended use, as a result of which the number of parts to be kept in stock can be significantly reduced.

For the joining of the bolt and the bore, it is also advantageous that each bolt is provided with a knurling on the circumference.

Exemplary embodiments of contact elements according to the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to three figures.

Show, each greatly enlarged, shown in side view and partially in section,
  • 1 shows a contact element which is designed on its plug contact side as a contact pin and on its connection side as a solder connection,
  • 2 shows a contact element which is formed on its plug contact side as a contact socket with contact springs and on its connection side as a crimp sleeve for crimping a wire, and
  • 3 shows a contact element which is provided on its plug-in contact side as a contact socket with contact springs and on its connection side with plug-in pins which can be inserted into holes in a printed circuit board.

In detail, it can be seen from the figures that each contact element has a plug-in contact section 1 on a side provided for making contact with a mating contact element, which can be designed as a contact pin 2 or contact socket 3 with contact springs 4.

Concentric to a longitudinal axis 5 of pin 2 or socket 3, each plug contact section 1 has a cylindrical bolt 6 which projects from plug contact section 1 opposite to a free end 7 of pin 2 or socket 3.

A connection section 8 of the contact element provided for connection to an electrical conductor, which conductor can also be the conductor track of a printed circuit board, is provided with a bore 9 which is dimensioned such that the bolt 6 is pressed into this bore parallel to the axis 5 in a press fit can be. A circumferential knurling 10 of the bolt improves the interference fit between the connection section 8 and the plug contact section 1 of the contact element.

The bolt 6, regardless of how the contact-making parts of the plug-in contact section 1 are designed, is of at least the same diameter in all contact elements, so that any connecting sections 8 can be joined with any plug-in contact sections 1 for producing a contact element.

As FIG. 3 shows, instead of an intermediate piece 11 integral with the connecting section 8, the intermediate piece can also be designed as an annular part 18 that can be pushed onto the bolt 6, the intermediate piece 11 serving in particular to insert between the plug contact section 1 and the intermediate piece 11 to hold annular resilient locking element 13 which, together with the connection section 8, forms an annular groove 12 in which, for example an edge of a bore can be received in a front panel or housing wall 17. The latching element 13 is used for the latching fixation of the contact element on the front plate or housing wall 17.

In the upper half of Figure 3 it is shown that the intermediate piece can also be designed as an intermediate section 14.

The intermediate section 14 is provided with a hollow cylindrical bore 15 into which the bolt 6 can be inserted in a press fit. On the side facing away from the plug-in contact section 1, the intermediate section 14 is formed on the outside corresponding to the bolt 6, this part of the intermediate section 14 which can be inserted into the bore 9 in the press fit as a plug-in cylinder 16 having a different, generally larger diameter than the bolt 6.

The intermediate section 14 can serve to increase the distance between the plug contact section 1 and the connection section 8, or to adapt the diameter of the bolts 6, which is the same for all plug contact sections 1, to a larger diameter bore 9 of a connection section 8.
