Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a connector for enteral nutrition tubing.
As is known, the enteral nutrition of a patient consists in bringing into the stomach or the intestine by means of a probe following the esophagus, a nutritive composition conditioned in a container situated at a distance and to which the probe is connected by means of a tubing called enteral nutrition tubing.
To date, there are several types of receptacles provided with necks of different predetermined formats, chosen by the preparers of the nutritive compositions, and each of these necks, therefore to each of these types of receptacles, currently corresponds a specific tubing provided at one end. a fitting adapted to cooperate with said neck. In practice, a drip chamber is interposed between this fitting and the flexible part of the tubing.
The invention aims, for standardization purposes, a coupling of the aforementioned type which is adapted to cooperate with several predetermined formats of neck. The advantage of such standardization is to reduce manufacturing costs and to require fewer tubes to be kept in stock at each place of use; this results in less storage volume and lower overall cost of tubing to keep in stock.
Already known from document US-A-1,366,789, a device for connecting a flexible tube to several types of ordinary bottles or jars, which consists of a base and a plurality of projections extending substantially over a same distance from the latter, each projection being adapted to cooperate, internally or by confrontation of slices, with a type of neck of given size. This base includes a tubular projection for fixing the tube, and a separate air inlet.
As for document US-A-3,850,341, it describes a shutter adapted to cooperate with different types of necks, without any communication being provided with a feeding tube.
The invention provides for this purpose a device for connecting an enteral nutrition tube to a container containing a nutritive composition and provided with a neck, of the type comprising a transverse closure wall and a set of at least two coaxial elastic cylindrical skirts integral with the transverse obturation wall with which they form a plug, and which can each engage internally in the necks of containers having different predetermined formats, characterized in that it is formed of a fitting comprising this transverse obturation wall and this skirt, and of an independent perforating end-piece, known per se, mounted at one end of this tubing, in that the transverse obturation wall comprises an area of reduced thickness intended to be perforated by this perforating tip, and in that one of the skirts internally has a first cylindrical wall adjacent to the transverse obturating wall ation and bordered at a distance therefrom by a radially projecting rib, so as to be able to adapt around a first neck format having a radially projecting rim, and a second cylindrical wall of larger diameter connected to the first by a transverse bearing surface and bordered at a distance therefrom by a second rib projecting radially internally, so as to be able to adapt around a second format of neck of larger diameter than the first and having a radially external protruding rim, this same skirt externally comprising a generally cylindrical wall adapted to penetrate the neck of a bottle.
It will be appreciated that the fact that this connection is independent of the rest of the tubing allows greater ease of manufacture and sterile storage while allowing the use of tubing provided with perforators usable in other applications, which reduces cost price.
- said set of skirts further comprises a second internal skirt, provided externally with friction ribs and adapted to engage internally in a container neck according to a fourth format,
- the first and second skirts are arranged on the same side of the transverse closure wall,
- this skirt is associated, radially inside the latter, with a second skirt adapted to engage in the smooth neck of a pocket-shaped container,
- the first format corresponds to a standard format neck of the type adapted to receive standard metal capsules, and the second format corresponds to the standard format of the bottle necks for infusion.
These latter arrangements make it possible to adapt to four common formats of container necks.
- this generally cylindrical wall has a diameter which decreases away from the transverse obturation wall,
- this transverse obturation wall is limited externally by a cylindrical wall adapted to pass through the tightening ring of said bottle, and by an annular flange formed radially in external projection between this cylindrical wall and the generally cylindrical wall of the first skirt and adapted to be clamped axially between the neck of the bottle and the transverse annular surface of the clamping ring.
- FIG. 1 is a view in diametrical axial section of a connector according to the invention, along line II of FIG. 2,
- FIG. 2 is a bottom view of it according to arrow II of FIG. 1,
- Figure 3 is an enlarged version of Figure 1 showing various container necks capable of receiving the connector; and
- Figure 4 is a side view with partial cutaway of one end of enteral nutrition tubing provided with a perforator adapted to cooperate with the connector.
The
In the example considered, the
The
The outer diameter of this wall is for example 14.2 mm with ribs projecting over 0.5 mm.
It goes without saying that the above description has been offered only by way of nonlimiting illustrative example and that numerous variants can be proposed without departing from the scope of the invention. Thus, for example, depending on the formats of the necks on which this fitting must come to be adapted, it is possible to provide complementary skirts arranged outside of
As can be seen from FIG. 4, the
The material of the connector is of any suitable type compatible with medical requirements.
The wall of the internal skirt equipped with the
