Description

The present invention relates to a method and a machine for producing cardboard boxes, corrugated cardboard or similar sheet material, having a polygonal section, and in particular with a square or rectangular section.

We know that boxes of this type are formed from a single blank of the sheet material, comprising a set of flaps (at least three) connected to each other by parallel fold lines and provided laterally with flaps, respectively connected to said flaps by fold lines perpendicular to the fold lines connecting said flaps and intended to form the bottom and the cover of said boxes. The free edge of one of the end flaps of said assembly is provided with a tongue connected to said end flap by a fold line parallel to those connecting said flaps and intended to be fixed against the free edge of the opposite end flap.

The known cases of this type are said to be "American" and they have a square or rectangular section (transverse to said flaps). Their manufacture is carried out by a cardboard industrialist who, from said flank, forms a flattened box blank by folding said blank around the median fold line of said set of flaps and fixing said tab on the opposite end flap. At this time said blank therefore has a flattened parallelogram section, said lateral flaps respectively extending the corresponding flaps outwards. Then, these flattened blanks are delivered to a user, who, to accommodate objects to be packaged there, shapes them by expansion parallel to the flattened diagonal of said parallelogram, then folds and glues said flaps to form the bottom, and, after filling , the cover of said box.

  • . bien entendu, tant la fabrication des ébauches aplaties chez le cartonnier que la mise en forme desdites ébauches chez l'utilisateur sont réalisées à l'aide de machines automatiques. On voit donc que l'on est donc obligé d'utiliser deux machines automatiques complexes et donc coûteuses, ce qui grève le coût d'utilisation desdites caisses ;
  • . à cause des rabats latéraux, il est difficile de guider rigoureusement les bords du flan au moment de la fixation de la languette sur le volet extrême opposé, de sorte que l'équerrage est mauvais et que la ligne de collage obtenue n'est pas rigoureusement parallèle aux lignes de pliage reliant lesdits volets ; la section de la caisse n'est donc pas rigoureusement identique entre le fond et le couvercle et il en résulte des défauts de présentation des caisses, qui nuisent à la qualité de celles-ci ;
  • . les ébauches aplaties présentent une surépaisseur médiane, puisque localement, l'ébauche aplatie comporte trois épaisseurs, au lieu de deux. Cette surépaisseur a pour effet de déséquilibrer les piles d'ébauches formées pour le stockage et le transport desdites ébauches. Il en résulte des difficultés de manutention desdites piles ;
  • . à cause des surépaisseurs mentionnées ci-dessus, le nombre d'ébauches aplaties que l'on peut loger dans le magasin d'alimentation de la machine de formage et de remplissage chez l'utilisateur est limitée ;
  • . les lignes de pliage intermédiaires des volets se trouvent pliées au maximum lors de la formation des ébauches aplaties ; de plus, les lignes de pliage intermédiaires forment les arêtes extérieures desdites ébauches. Par suite, elles sont fragilisées par l'aplatissement des ébauches et sujettes à des agressions extérieures. Il en résulte que ces lignes de pliage intermédiaires forment des lignes de moindre résistance pour lesdites caisses ;
Such a manufacturing and use process has many drawbacks. Indeed :
  • . of course, both the manufacture of the flat blanks in the cardboard box and the shaping of said blanks in the user are carried out using automatic machines. It can therefore be seen that we are therefore obliged to use two complex and therefore expensive automatic machines, which increases the cost of using said cases;
  • . because of the side flaps, it is difficult to rigorously guide the edges of the blank when fixing the tongue on the opposite end flap, so that the squareness is poor and the bonding line obtained is not rigorously parallel to the fold lines connecting said flaps; the section of the box is therefore not strictly identical between the bottom and the cover and this results in defects in presentation of the boxes, which adversely affect the quality of the latter;
  • . the flattened blanks have a median allowance, since locally, the flattened blank has three thicknesses, instead of two. This extra thickness has the effect of unbalancing the stacks of blanks formed for the storage and transport of said blanks. This results in difficulties in handling said batteries;
  • . because of the above-mentioned extra thicknesses, the number of flattened blanks that can be accommodated in the feed store of the forming and filling machine at the user's is limited;
  • . the intermediate fold lines of the flaps are folded to the maximum during the formation of the flattened blanks; in addition, the intermediate fold lines form the outer edges of said blanks. As a result, they are weakened by the flattening of the blanks and subject to external aggressions. As a result, these intermediate fold lines form lines of least resistance for said boxes;
  • . the flaps of said boxes are necessarily four in number and two to two identical.
  • . due to inaccuracies in fixing and weakening of the edges, it is necessary to use a high-quality sheet material. The cost of said cases is therefore high.

Furthermore, from document FR-A-1 051 421, a machine is already known for forming containers by winding a cardboard blank provided with fold lines, around a movable shaper cooperating with fold sheets side.

  • . de supprimer la machine automatique de pliage et de collage des ébauches aplaties chez le cartonnier ;
  • . de ce qui précède, il résulte que les lignes de pliage intermédiaires ne sont plus des lignes de faiblesse ;
  • . de fabriquer des caisses dont le nombre des volets est quelconque (au moins égal à trois) et dont les volets peuvent présenter des largeurs différentes ;
The object of the present invention is to enable quality packaging to be obtained by winding a blank of sheet material, provided with fold lines, around a mandrel. It avoids the drawbacks of a lack of precision in positioning the blank relative to the mandrel, which would cause the blank to be folded along lines other than the preformed fold lines. The invention further makes it possible to completely form a box of the above type, directly from the blank of sheet material provided with preformed fold lines, without passing through the intermediate stage of the formation of the flattened blank.
Thus, the present invention allows:
  • . eliminating the automatic folding and gluing machine for flat blanks in the cardboard box;
  • . to store and transport said blanks flat, so that the drawbacks due to the mentioned extra thicknesses are eliminated, that is to say the handling difficulties and the limitations of supplying the machine to the user (in fact, the capacity of the store is multiplied by three, at equal height); the machine therefore has a much greater operating autonomy.
  • . from the above, it follows that the intermediate fold lines are no longer lines of weakness;
  • . to manufacture cases the number of flaps of which is arbitrary (at least equal to three) and the flaps of which may have different widths;
  • . to manufacture high-quality cases with regard to squareness and the rigor of the interior dimension, even with sheet materials of lower quality.

  • on fixe ladite languette au bord libre de l'autre desdits volets extrêmes dudit ensemble de volets ;
  • on fixe les uns aux autres lesdits rabats ainsi repliés ;
    est caractérisé en ce que :
To this end, according to the invention, the method for producing a box with polygonal section from a blank of sheet material comprising a set of flaps connected to each other by parallel fold lines and provided with side flaps, respectively connected to said flaps by fold lines perpendicular to the fold lines connecting said flaps and intended to respectively form the bottom and the cover of said box, the free edge of one of the extreme flaps of said set of flaps being provided with 'a tongue connected to said end flap by a fold line parallel to the fold lines connecting said flaps, method according to which said set of flaps is wound around a mandrel of polygonal section, so that each of said flaps is applied against a face of said mandrel and that said fold lines connecting said flaps bear against a corresponding edge of said mandrel, after which:
  • said tongue is fixed to the free edge of the other of said end flaps of said set of flaps;
  • folding the flaps located on the same side of said flaps against a corresponding face of said mandrel, around the corresponding fold lines; and
  • said flaps thus folded are fixed to each other;
    is characterized in that:
  • before winding said set of flaps around said mandrel, the outer section of which corresponds to the inner section of said box to be obtained, place a freely movable intermediate flap forming part of said set of flaps, at least approximately opposite the corresponding face of said stationary mandrel but at some distance from it, then the flaps adjacent to said intermediate flap are folded by bringing said intermediate flap in the direction of said corresponding face of said mandrel, so that, during the approximation of said intermediate flap of said corresponding face of the mandrel, said flaps adjacent to said intermediate flap bear against the mandrel, which causes a translation of said intermediate flap relative to said face corresponding to the mandrel and exactly positions the intermediate flap and the fold lines of said intermediate flap relative to said corresponding face of the mandrel.

Thus, thanks to the invention, the box can be formed precisely from said blank provided with preformed fold lines, when it is desired to have it, for example for product packaging. .

In an advantageous embodiment, said mandrel is arranged at a fixed station and said blank is brought to said mandrel by a translational movement, in direction parallel to said fold lines connecting said flaps.

In addition, it is preferable that, during the winding of said set of flaps around the mandrel and the folding of said flaps on the latter, at least one of said flaps is horizontal. Thus, it can rest on a table arranged under said mandrel. It is then advantageous for the direction of the translation of supply of said blank to be also horizontal, so that the supply of the blank to the mandrel and the placing of said blank under it can be carried out by simple sliding on said table.

The fixing of said tab on the free edge of said other end flap and / or the fixing between them of said flaps can be carried out by gluing.

Furthermore, in particular to allow the extraction of the blank from the mandrel, the face of the mandrel against which said flaps are folded is made mobile.

  • un mandrin à section polygonale dont la section extérieure dudit mandrin correspond à la section intérieure de ladite caisse à obtenir ;
  • des moyens pour enrouler ledit ensemble de volets autour dudit mandrin ;
  • des moyens pour fixer ladite languette au bord libre de l'autre desdits volets extrêmes dudit ensemble de volets ;
The present invention further relates to a machine for producing a box with a polygonal section from a blank of sheet material comprising a set of flaps connected to each other by parallel fold lines and provided with lateral flaps, respectively connected to said flaps by fold lines perpendicular to the fold lines connecting said flaps and intended to respectively form the bottom and the cover of said box, the free edge of one of the extreme flaps of said set of flaps being provided with a tongue connected to said end flap by a fold line parallel to the fold lines connecting said flaps, machine comprising:
  • a mandrel with a polygonal section, the outside section of said mandrel corresponding to the inside section of said box to be obtained;
  • means for winding said set of flaps around said mandrel;
  • means for fixing said tongue to the free edge of the other of said end flaps of said set of flaps;
  • means for folding the flaps located on the same side of said flaps against a corresponding face of said mandrel; and
  • means for fixing said flaps thus folded to each other,
    characterized:
  • in that it comprises a support, movable between a first position, for which it freely supports an intermediate flap of said set of flaps at least approximately opposite the corresponding face of said stationary mandrel, but at some distance therefrom, and a second position, for which said support presses said intermediate flap against the corresponding face of said mandrel; and
  • in that it comprises means for moving said support between these two positions, the movement of said support taking place during the folding of the flaps adjacent to said intermediate flap.

Preferably, the machine according to the invention comprises a horizontal table disposed under said mandrel and means for bringing said blank under said mandrel, by sliding on said table, as well as means for locally gluing said blank when it is brought under said mandrel. .

It is advantageous that it includes means for vertically straightening said box with a view to its evacuation. The machine may include means for ejecting the body from the mandrel, formed at least partially by said face of the mandrel against which said flaps are folded.

According to an advantageous embodiment, in the machine according to the invention, said means for winding said set of flaps around the mandrel comprise a movable assembly, provided with fixed stops and tilting arms.

The blank 1 of sheet material, for example of cardboard or corrugated cardboard, shown in FIG. 1 a comprises a set of four aligned flaps 2, 3, 4 and 5, two by two connected by preformed and parallel fold lines 6 , 7 and 8. These parallel fold lines 6, 7 and 8 are respectively arranged between the flaps 2 and 3, 3 and 4, and 4 and 5. Along the free edge of the end flap 2 of said set of flaps 2 to 5 a tongue 9 is arranged, connected to said end flap 2 by a fold line 10, parallel to the fold lines 6, 7 and 8.

Each lateral flap 11.2 to 11.5 is articulated to the corresponding flap 2 to 5 by a preformed fold line 13.2 to 13.5. The fold lines 13.2 to 13.5 are aligned and perpendicular to the fold lines 6,7 and 8. Similarly, each lateral flap 12.2 to 12.5 is articulated to the corresponding flap 2 to 5 by a preformed fold line 14.2 to 14.5. The fold lines 14.2 to 14.5 are aligned and perpendicular to the fold lines 6,7 and 8.

According to the invention (see FIG. 1b), a mandrel 19 is provided, the external shape of which corresponds to the internal shape of the box to be obtained from the blank 1. Such a mandrel may be solid or only made up of a delimiting frame its edges.

The blank 1 is placed relative to the mandrel 19 so that its flap 3 is applied against the corresponding underside of said mandrel, then the flaps 2 and 4 are folded around the edges of the latter corresponding to the fold lines 6 and 7, so as to be applied against the corresponding lateral faces of said mandrel 19 (see FIG. 1b). After that, the flap 5 and the tongue 9 are respectively folded around the edges of said mandrel corresponding respectively to the fold lines 8 and 9, to come to be applied on the upper face of said mandrel 19, the tongue 9 being located under the flap 5 (see Figure 1C). A pressure exerted on the flap 5 makes it possible to press the edge 5.L thereof on said tongue, so that, thanks to the line of adhesive 16, the flap 5 and the tongue 9 are secured to one of the 'other. In addition, the flaps 11.2 and 11.4 are folded around the edges of the mandrel 19 corresponding respectively to the fold lines 13.2 and 13.4, to come to bear against the corresponding lateral face of the mandrel 19 (see also Figure 16).

In this position, the lines of adhesive 17 and 18 are directed outward.

On obtient alors la caisse 20 montrée sur la figure 1d, couchée sur le volet 3 et ouverte du côté des rabats 12.2 à 12.5.Finally, the flaps 11.3 and 11.5 are folded around the edges of the mandrel 19 corresponding respectively to the fold lines 13.3 and 13.5 and applied against the flaps 11.2 and 11.4 already folded, so that said flaps 11.2 to 11.5 are made integral with each other. others, using the adhesive lines 17 and 18 (see Figure 1d). We then obtain the box 20 shown in Figure 1d, lying on the flap 3 and open on the side of the flaps 12.2 to 12.5.

To fill this box 20, it is released from the mandrel 19 and can be straightened to rest on its bottom 21 consisting of integral flaps 11.2 to 11.5. After filling, the box 20 can be closed by folding the flaps 12.2 to 12.5, respectively around the fold lines 14.2 to 14.5, then securing said flaps 12.2 to 12.5 therebetween, for example by gluing.

In FIGS. 2a to 2c, the process of positioning the blank 1 relative to the mandrel has been illustrated diagrammatically, when it is desired to apply the flap 3 against the corresponding underside of the mandrel 19. In these figures, it has been assumed that said mandrel 19 consisted of profiles 22 (seen in section), parallel and with rectangular sections, defining virtual bearing faces 23 to 26, respectively for the flaps 2 to 5, as well as folding edges 27 to 30, corresponding respectively at fold lines 6,7,8 and 10.

Ensuite, pendant le rabattement desdits volets 2 et 4, le volet 3 est rapproché de la face d'appui 24 par l'intermédiaire d'une plaque 31, de préférence exactement superposable à ladite face d'appui 24.A blank 1 is brought in the vicinity of the mandrel 19, so that its flap 3 is disposed opposite the bearing face 24. Although the lateral positioning of said flap 3 relative to said face 24 is sought as precise as possible, it may happen that a lateral offset l appears between the flap 3 and said bearing face 24. To avoid untimely folding of the blank 1, outside the fold lines 6 and 7, when the flaps 2 are folded down and 4, it is arranged that, before the said flaps 2 and 4 are folded down, the flap 3 is spaced from the bearing face 24 by a distance d (see FIG. 2a). Then, during the folding down of said flaps 2 and 4, the flap 3 is brought closer to the bearing face 24 by means of a plate 31, preferably exactly superimposed on said bearing face 24.

Thus, during the approximation of the flap 3 of the face 24, the flaps 2 and 4 are in abutment against the mandrel 19 (see FIG. 2b) which generates a guiding effect and exactly positions the flap 3 relative to the face d 'support 24. When the plate 31 presses the flap 3 between the support face 24, the fold lines 6 and 7 are exactly superimposed on the fold edges 27 and 28, so that, after final folding of the flaps 2 and 4 , respectively against the bearing faces 23 and 25, the fold lines 8 and 10 are also exactly superimposed on the fold edges 29 and 30 (see FIG. 2c).

Entre le poste d'alimentation 33 et le poste de conformation 34 est disposée une table horizontale 36, pourvue de fentes longitudinales 37 à travers lesquels peuvent passer des doigts d'entraînement 38.The machine, according to the present invention and shown in Figures 3 to 8, comprises a frame 32 with respect to which are arranged a station 33 for supplying blanks 1, a station 34 for shaping said blanks around said mandrel 19 and a station 35 of evacuation of the finished cases 20. Between the feed station 33 and the shaping station 34 is disposed a horizontal table 36, provided with longitudinal slots 37 through which the drive fingers 38 can pass.

The feeding station 33 includes a magazine 39 containing a stack of blanks 1, as well as means 40 for taking, for example by suction, the upper blank 1 of said stack of blanks. Said gripping means 40 are movable, under the action of motor means 41, in order to be able to successively take the blanks 1 from the magazine 39 and deposit them on the table 36, upstream of the shaping station 34. Next, the drive fingers 38, moved by motor means 42, slide the blank 1, thus removed, onto the table 36 and deposited to bring it under the mandrel 19 of the shaping station 34.

Pendant le transfert vers le poste de conformation 34, le flan 1 rencontre des encolleurs 43,44 et 45, solidaires du bâti 32, et déposant respectivement les lignes d'adhésif 16,17 et 18.During the transfer to the shaping station 34, the blank 1 encounters glueers 43, 44 and 45, integral with the frame 32, and depositing the lines of adhesive 16, 17 and 18 respectively.

Thus, thanks to the drive fingers 38 and the glueers 43 to 45, the blank 1 is arranged, already glued, under the mandrel 19 in the position shown in FIG. 2a, above the pressure plate 31, moved by a cylinder 46.

Ce mécanisme 47 comporte un équipage mobile 48 pouvant être levé ou abaissé par l'intermédiaire d'un vérin 49, prenant appui sur le bâti 32.To fold the flaps 2 and 4, the shaping station 34 includes the mechanism 47, shown in Figures 3,4,7 and 8. This mechanism 47 includes a movable assembly 48 which can be raised or lowered by means of a jack 49, bearing on the frame 32.

The moving element 48 comprises two stops 50 and 51, capable of folding down the flaps 2 and 4, respectively against the bearing faces 23 and 25 of the mandrel 19 (see also FIG. 2b), when the moving element 48 is brought together of the mandrel 19.

In addition, said movable assembly 48 comprises articulated arms 52 and 53, for folding the flap 5 and the tongue 9 respectively against the face 26 of the mandrel 19, after the flaps 2 and 4 are folded down between the bearing faces 23 and 25. For example, the arm 52 is moved by a jack 54, while the arm 53 is actuated by a linkage 55, connected to the frame 32.

A l'intérieur du mandrin 19 est disposée une plaque transversale 56, servant de face d'extrémité audit mandrin 19 et mue par un vérin 57.Inside the mandrel 19 is disposed a transverse plate 56, serving as an end face to said mandrel 19 and driven by a jack 57.

Des actionneurs 58 et 59, tels que des vérins par exemple, peuvent rabattre respectivement les rabats 11.2 et 11.4 contre la plaque 56.Actuators 58 and 59, such as jacks for example, can fold the flaps 11.2 and 11.4 respectively against the plate 56.

Après action des butées 50 et 51, des bras 52 et 53 et des actionneurs 58 et 59, le flan se trouve dans l'état représenté sur la figure 1c.After action of the stops 50 and 51, of the arms 52 and 53 and of the actuators 58 and 59, the blank is in the state shown in FIG. 1c.

At this instant, in order to perfect the squaring of the shaped blank 1 before definitive bonding, it is possible to exert a longitudinal pressure on it, by means of jacks 60 pressing it in the direction of the actuators 58 and 59 while bearing on the free edge of the flaps 12.2, 12.4 and 12.5.

Le volet 5 est alors solidarisé de la languette 9, par l'intermédiaire de la ligne d'adhésif 16.After squaring, the flap 5 is applied against the bearing face 26 by an arm 61, tilting under the action of a jack 69. The flap 5 is then secured to the tongue 9, via the line d adhesive 16.

La caisse se présente alors comme cela est représenté sur la figure 1d.Finally, jacks 62 and 63, optionally by means of tilting plates 64 and 65, apply the flaps 11.3 and 11.5 against the flaps 11.2 and 11.4, previously folded against the plate 56. Said flaps 11.2 to 11.5 are thus secured by means of the lines of adhesive 17 and 18, forming the bottom 21. The box then appears as shown in Figure 1d.

The evacuation station 35 comprises two conveyors 67 and 68 in steps, so that when the box 20 is ejected from the mandrel by the action of the jack 57, the latter rocks passing from the conveyor 67 to the conveyor 68 and is evacuated by the latter. ci, on which it rests by its bottom 21.

A cabinet 70 contains the means for controlling and synchronizing the various components of the machine described above.
