Definitions
- the invention relates to a method according to the preamble of claim 1 and a device for carrying it out.
- carrier bodies for catalytic reactors for exhaust gas purification by winding from two metal strips, one of which is corrugated and the other is designed as a smooth strip.
- the smooth metal strip is wound directly adjacent to the corrugated strip, so that it prevents adjacent layers of corrugated strips from slipping into one another.
- carrier bodies by winding only a single strip of corresponding cross-sectional shape, in which, due to the cross-section of the corrugations, slipping of adjacent layers is avoided.
- Another disadvantage is the thermal stresses that occur during operation, which occur due to the different temperatures in the carrier body and on the jacket sleeve and can lead to an undesired detachment of the carrier body from the jacket sleeve.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of creating a method of the type mentioned in which, while maintaining the known winding technology, a support body which is uniformly flexible in the radial direction can be created, which can be connected in a simple manner to a jacket sleeve and also reduces the risk, that this connection is affected by thermal expansion.
- both cylindrical, elliptical or oval cross-section carrier bodies can be produced according to the features of claims 2, 3 and 4.
- the new process can also be carried out in various ways.
- the stack of metal strips is not formed in a block form with end edges aligned with one another, but if a parallelepiped-shaped stack is formed by staggered joining of the end ends of the individual metal strips, each of the same length, which stack then can wind up that the connection points of the individual tapes to the adjacent tape are inward and thereby additionally secured during winding. This also creates a multi-course, spiral support body.
- a new device by carrying out the winding method of the invention according to the features of claim 12, however, provides a winding core with at least two drivers provided on its circumference, to which the ends of the metal strips supplied by a feed arrangement can be fastened.
- the drivers can be designed as pins projecting axially from a turntable and retractable axially into the disk, around which the ends can be bent for fastening. After winding, these pins can be pulled axially out of the carrier body, as is known per se (DE-OS 35 32 408) for other winding processes.
- the drivers are parts of a winding core which can be displaced axially to the winding axis and which is provided with fastening slots on the circumference, which are easily connected by clamping surfaces of a winding core and by resilient flaps assigned to them Form of axially projecting from a sleeve tongues can be formed.
- a characteristic, multi-course, spirally wound carrier body is formed, which is characterized by a large number of independently independent spiral straps extending from a central area and with their free ends lying on the outside of the jacket.
- Such a carrier body has the advantageous features of good radial extensibility described at the outset.
- the area (5d) can be pressed together before the stack (13) is clamped in, whereby to facilitate the compression and to facilitate a good deflection of the strips in the area (5d) during the subsequent winding, lateral slits to form the ends ( 5a, 5a ') of the tapes (5 and 5') can be provided.
- the area (5d) can then, for example, be inserted axially into the gap (27) between two prongs (28 and 28a) of a fork-shaped part (29) until an edge of the stack (13) on the rear pane part of the part (29) is present.
- the support body can then be formed by rotation in the direction of the arrow (32) of the part (29) about the winding axis (9).
- Damage to the flow channels between the individual layers (5 and 6) can largely be avoided in the manufacture of the region (5d) by the shape of the crimping tool and by the shape of the prongs (28 and 28a).
- the fork-shaped tines (28 and 28a) are pulled axially out of the carrier body after the body has been wound up. They can be dimensioned correspondingly small in order to avoid an undesirable formation of cavities in the center of the carrier body.
- the front end (7a) is made up of a plurality of bands (7), each of which is formed from a corrugated band and a smooth band are clamped on a rotating winding body (19) in cylindrical shape, which is later pulled out axially after the manufacture of the carrier body in the form shown in FIG. 9.
- the support body (10) can be deformed by pressure in the direction of the arrows (33) in a manner known per se to an oval and elliptical support body, as it is with (34) in its Contour is indicated schematically. In such a process, which is known per se, the initially cylindrical cavity (8) is compressed.
- a further spirally wound cylindrical support body (11) in the initially sleeve-shaped support body (10) of FIG. 9. This can be done either by axially pressing the carrier body (11) into the cavity. It is also possible to first wrap the carrier body (11) up to a certain diameter in a known manner and then to wrap more metal strips between the respective outer layers of this carrier body, which serves as the winding core.
- a winding core (19) is provided which is rotatable about the winding axis (9) in the direction of the arrow (32) and which is approximately cylindrical, but with its circumference roughened or even corrugated clamping surfaces (26) is provided which, together with tongues (22) projecting axially from a sleeve (20), form a plurality of clamping slots (25) distributed uniformly over the circumference.
- the end faces (7a) of a plurality of metal strips (7) can be inserted into these clamping slots, each of which consists of a corrugated strip (7d) and a smooth strip (7c) in the exemplary embodiment.
- This process can also be carried out by feeding these end faces (7a) tangentially to the stationary winding core, to the extent that they lie approximately on the clamping surfaces (26).
- the sleeve (20) can then be pushed axially over the winding core and over the front ends.
- the individual metal strips (7) are guided tangentially to the winding body (19). This could be done, for example, by unwinding supply rolls, the axes of which are arranged parallel to the winding axis (9) and which are provided concentrically around the winding core (19) at a sufficient distance. Corresponding cutting devices for cutting the individual strips (7) to length could also be arranged.
- the axes of the twelve supply rolls to be arranged in the exemplary embodiment and the winding axis (9) could be arranged vertically on a base frame or horizontally on a corresponding guide wall.
- carrier bodies according to FIG. 9 or according to FIG. 10 can be produced.
- Fig. 11 shows a possibility of feeding several tapes, which are each stored in the shafts of a feed magazine divided by partitions (30) so that their ends (7a) converge in the region of a winding body (12 ').
- a on a lever (36) pivotally arranged roller (37), which is under the force of a compression spring (38), ensures when the metal strips (7) rotate about the winding axis (9) in the direction of the arrow (32) that the bundle of metal strips (7), which are initially introduced with their end faces (7a) at least partially into a slot of the winding body (12 '), are always pressed firmly against the spirally wound carrier body during the winding process.
- FIGS. 12 and 13 Another very advantageous possibility of producing the new carrier body is indicated in FIGS. 12 and 13.
- a stack (14) is first formed from a plurality of metal strips (15, 16, 17 and 18) in such a way that the end faces (15a, 16a, 17a, 18a, etc.) of the individual layers of the metal strips lying one on top of the other -
- the end faces (15a, 16a, 17a, 18a, etc.) of the individual layers of the metal strips lying one on top of the other - which, of course, can each consist of a smooth band and a corrugated band - are each offset by approximately the same amount in the longitudinal direction of the bands, so that a stack (14) of parallelepiped form is formed.
- This stack is then, as shown in FIG.
- FIGS. 14 to 16 show a possibility in which the end faces of a plurality of bands have not to be attached beforehand to form a stack, as in FIG. 12.
- a first band ie a pair of bands
- a winding body (12 ') which consists of a corrugated and a smooth band.
- This is continued with several tapes in succession, so that, as shown in Fig.
- a winding device (23) is provided here, which can consist, for example, of a rotating disk which is equipped with axially projecting pins (24) which can be withdrawn axially.
- a plurality of metal bands (39) are fastened with their end faces one behind the other on a base band (7), for example by dots.
- This end band (7) is fastened with its front end (7a) centrally in the slot of a winding axis (9), but is guided over the circumference of the pins (24) which rotate with the disk (23) around the winding axis.
- an approximately cylindrical body can also be formed, as shown in FIG.
- a multi-start wound carrier body is formed, in which the ends (7b) of a large number of bands lie freely outside, which can be seen particularly well from FIG. 18.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method according to the preamble of claim 1 and a device for carrying it out.
It is known to produce carrier bodies for catalytic reactors for exhaust gas purification by winding from two metal strips, one of which is corrugated and the other is designed as a smooth strip. The smooth metal strip is wound directly adjacent to the corrugated strip, so that it prevents adjacent layers of corrugated strips from slipping into one another. It is also known to produce carrier bodies by winding only a single strip of corresponding cross-sectional shape, in which, due to the cross-section of the corrugations, slipping of adjacent layers is avoided. A problem with such wound carrier bodies, which are then fastened in a sleeve-shaped jacket by soldering, is the lack of elasticity of the carrier body, especially in the radial direction, which makes it difficult for the jacket sleeve to fit snugly, and sometimes with difficulties in soldering the carrier body into the jacket sleeve brings. Another disadvantage is the thermal stresses that occur during operation, which occur due to the different temperatures in the carrier body and on the jacket sleeve and can lead to an undesired detachment of the carrier body from the jacket sleeve.
Therefore, it has also become known (DE-OS 35 43 011) to design the carrier body in such a way that it comes to rest with a corrugated strip on the associated jacket sleeve, because the soldering process for fastening the carrier body can thereby be carried out more safely. It is also known (DE-OS 28 56 030), the carrier body in its jacket sleeve radially squeeze in order to be able to achieve the full request. However, the lack of radial flexibility of the honeycomb body which is present in the case of wound carrier bodies cannot be eliminated in this way.
In order to avoid stretching problems with metallic catalyst carrier bodies as far as possible, it is also known (DE-GM 86 12 872) to first form a stack of corrugated and smooth strips and then to devour the ends of the stack in opposite directions by two fixed points, so that this creates a carrier body with S-shaped metal strips in its interior. Since this means that each metal strip lies against the casing body with its two ends, an advantage in terms of joining technology can be achieved. The disadvantage is that there is no radial symmetry of the layers and thus no radially uniform stretchability.
The invention is therefore based on the object of creating a method of the type mentioned in which, while maintaining the known winding technology, a support body which is uniformly flexible in the radial direction can be created, which can be connected in a simple manner to a jacket sleeve and also reduces the risk, that this connection is affected by thermal expansion.
To solve this problem, the characterizing features of claim 1 are proposed. It is possible in this way to form a multi-course spiral carrier matrix with the known winding method, in which the free ends of all wound metal strips lie on the circumference of the carrier body. A cohesion of a carrier matrix formed in this way is essentially ensured by the outer jacket sleeve, because the individual metal bands tend to spread outwards, at least in the outer region of the carrier body, due to the inherent elasticity thereof. Since the free ends of the individual metal strips can also be arranged evenly distributed around the circumference of the finished carrier body, a uniformly elastic carrier body is created which can be connected to the casing sleeve in a very simple and reliable manner. Thermal expansion can also be absorbed excellently by the new carrier body.
With the new winding method, which can be implemented in various ways, both cylindrical, elliptical or oval cross-section carrier bodies can be produced according to the features of claims 2, 3 and 4. The new process can also be carried out in various ways.
For example, it is possible to grasp the ends of a large number of metal strips, as stated at the beginning, together in their middle before the winding process begins. However, it is also possible, according to the features of
It is also possible, according to the features of
Since the risk of the metal strips being crushed in the center is very great with such a production method, it is better if, according to the features of
Known winding devices can be used to carry out the new winding process, as has been stated, to which the tapes are fed either one after the other in a certain manner or in stack form. A new device by carrying out the winding method of the invention according to the features of
In an advantageous embodiment, the drivers can be designed as pins projecting axially from a turntable and retractable axially into the disk, around which the ends can be bent for fastening. After winding, these pins can be pulled axially out of the carrier body, as is known per se (DE-OS 35 32 408) for other winding processes. However, it is also possible and advantageous if the drivers are parts of a winding core which can be displaced axially to the winding axis and which is provided with fastening slots on the circumference, which are easily connected by clamping surfaces of a winding core and by resilient flaps assigned to them Form of axially projecting from a sleeve tongues can be formed. With this device, the resilient tongues press against the clamping surfaces during the winding process. But they subside Completed winding process, by loosening the clamping effect by a slight reverse rotation in the opposite winding direction, pull it out very axially together with the winding core. The carrier body thus provided with a hollow space in the center can then, as mentioned at the beginning, be deformed or completed by inserting an additional winding body into a cylindrical final shape. Finally, it is also possible to provide as a winding device for a stack of metal strips which is compressed in the middle, a device in which drivers according to the features of
In all cases, a characteristic, multi-course, spirally wound carrier body is formed, which is characterized by a large number of independently independent spiral straps extending from a central area and with their free ends lying on the outside of the jacket. Such a carrier body has the advantageous features of good radial extensibility described at the outset.

1, a plurality of metal strips (1, 2, 3 and 4) cut to a certain length are each arranged with one of their ends (1a, 2a etc.) on a rotatable shaft (31) so that all ends are approximately uniform on the The circumference of the shaft (31) is kept distributed and the bands are guided approximately radially outwards. The front ends (1a, 2a ...) can be fixed to the shaft (31) in various ways, which will be discussed in more detail later. If the shaft (31) is rotated in the direction of the arrow (32), then all the tapes (1 to 4) which initially still protrude radially are spirally wound around the winding axis (9), so that, in the final state, that shown in FIG shown form results. The process of spirally winding a metal strip layer, which can consist in a known manner of a correspondingly corrugated strip, which does not press into the adjacent layer during winding, or which can also consist of a smooth and a corrugated strip in a known manner according to the invention now not for such a band or a pair of bands, but for a large number of bands carried out. The free ends (1b, 2b) of these individual tapes are therefore - provided the same length of all tapes and the uniform spiral winding - on the circumference of the finished carrier body also distributed evenly on the circumference outside. The formation of a multi-course spirally wound carrier body, as shown in FIG. 2, therefore offers the advantage that the outer circumference of the carrier body is not held, as in the known, by a band essentially encircling the entire carrier body, but that the circumference consists of many, each individually due to elastic properties to the outside cushioning tape ends. This gives the entire support body good radial extensibility. If such a carrier body is inserted into a cylindrical jacket sleeve, the free band ends also press firmly against the inner circumference of the jacket sleeve. In the soldering process then carried out in the usual way, an intimate connection of the carrier body with the casing tube, which is not shown in FIG. 2, can be achieved. The radial elasticity of the new carrier body also has an advantageous effect in the event of thermal expansion during operation caused by different temperatures. There is no danger that the carrier body connected to the inner circumference of the jacket will become detached from the jacket during operation.
Sie können entsprechend klein bemessen werden, um eine an sich unerwünschte Hohlraumbildung im Zentrum des Trägerkörpers zu vermeiden.3 to 6 a different manufacturing possibility based on the same principle is sketched, in which first a stack (13) of superimposed bands (5, 6) is formed, which in the middle, in the area (5d), from the dash-dotted starting form is compressed to the extended form. This middle area (5d) thus represents more or less, compared to the representation according to FIG. 1, the fastening area for the front ends (5a and 5a ') (see FIG. 4) of two bands (5 and 5'), which can then be wound into a multi-layer spiral carrier body by twisting around the region (5d), as shown in FIG. 5, in a similar manner as is also the case was shown with reference to FIG. 1. The area (5d) can be pressed together before the stack (13) is clamped in, whereby to facilitate the compression and to facilitate a good deflection of the strips in the area (5d) during the subsequent winding, lateral slits to form the ends ( 5a, 5a ') of the tapes (5 and 5') can be provided. The area (5d) can then, for example, be inserted axially into the gap (27) between two prongs (28 and 28a) of a fork-shaped part (29) until an edge of the stack (13) on the rear pane part of the part (29) is present. The support body can then be formed by rotation in the direction of the arrow (32) of the part (29) about the winding axis (9). Damage to the flow channels between the individual layers (5 and 6) can largely be avoided in the manufacture of the region (5d) by the shape of the crimping tool and by the shape of the prongs (28 and 28a). The fork-shaped tines (28 and 28a) are pulled axially out of the carrier body after the body has been wound up. They can be dimensioned correspondingly small in order to avoid an undesirable formation of cavities in the center of the carrier body.
However, this can be avoided in a very simple manner even if, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, the front end (7a) is made up of a plurality of bands (7), each of which is formed from a corrugated band and a smooth band are clamped on a rotating winding body (19) in cylindrical shape, which is later pulled out axially after the manufacture of the carrier body in the form shown in FIG. 9. In order not to leave the resulting cavity (8), the support body (10) can be deformed by pressure in the direction of the arrows (33) in a manner known per se to an oval and elliptical support body, as it is with (34) in its Contour is indicated schematically. In such a process, which is known per se, the initially cylindrical cavity (8) is compressed.
However, it is also possible, as shown in FIG. 10 and mentioned previously, to arrange a further spirally wound cylindrical support body (11) in the initially sleeve-shaped support body (10) of FIG. 9. This can be done either by axially pressing the carrier body (11) into the cavity. It is also possible to first wrap the carrier body (11) up to a certain diameter in a known manner and then to wrap more metal strips between the respective outer layers of this carrier body, which serves as the winding core.
As can be seen from FIGS. 7 and 8, to produce a sleeve-shaped carrier body, a winding core (19) is provided which is rotatable about the winding axis (9) in the direction of the arrow (32) and which is approximately cylindrical, but with its circumference roughened or even corrugated clamping surfaces (26) is provided which, together with tongues (22) projecting axially from a sleeve (20), form a plurality of clamping slots (25) distributed uniformly over the circumference. The end faces (7a) of a plurality of metal strips (7) can be inserted into these clamping slots, each of which consists of a corrugated strip (7d) and a smooth strip (7c) in the exemplary embodiment. This process can also be carried out by feeding these end faces (7a) tangentially to the stationary winding core, to the extent that they lie approximately on the clamping surfaces (26). The sleeve (20) can then be pushed axially over the winding core and over the front ends.
If the winding process in the direction of arrow (32) is initiated with the metal strips (7) thus clamped in, it becomes clear that the tongues (22) radially to the strips (7) lying on them on the outside and under a certain tension Clamping surfaces (26) and the metal strips (7) lying in between in the gap (25), which are firmly clamped to the winding core (19) in this way. The further rotation about the winding axis (9) leads, as already stated, to the carrier body of the shape shown in FIG. 9.
In Fig. 8, the individual metal strips (7) are guided tangentially to the winding body (19). This could be done, for example, by unwinding supply rolls, the axes of which are arranged parallel to the winding axis (9) and which are provided concentrically around the winding core (19) at a sufficient distance. Corresponding cutting devices for cutting the individual strips (7) to length could also be arranged. The axes of the twelve supply rolls to be arranged in the exemplary embodiment and the winding axis (9) could be arranged vertically on a base frame or horizontally on a corresponding guide wall. As already explained, carrier bodies according to FIG. 9 or according to FIG. 10 can be produced.
Fig. 11 shows a possibility of feeding several tapes, which are each stored in the shafts of a feed magazine divided by partitions (30) so that their ends (7a) converge in the region of a winding body (12 '). A on a lever (36) pivotally arranged roller (37), which is under the force of a compression spring (38), ensures when the metal strips (7) rotate about the winding axis (9) in the direction of the arrow (32) that the bundle of metal strips (7), which are initially introduced with their end faces (7a) at least partially into a slot of the winding body (12 '), are always pressed firmly against the spirally wound carrier body during the winding process. With a suitable design of the metal strips to be wound, it may be sufficient if the two outermost metal strips lying in the magazine are gripped in the slot of the winding body (12 ') and ensure that the intermediate metal strips are pulled along with the further winding movement.
Another very advantageous possibility of producing the new carrier body is indicated in FIGS. 12 and 13. In this production method, a stack (14) is first formed from a plurality of metal strips (15, 16, 17 and 18) in such a way that the end faces (15a, 16a, 17a, 18a, etc.) of the individual layers of the metal strips lying one on top of the other - Which, of course, can each consist of a smooth band and a corrugated band - are each offset by approximately the same amount in the longitudinal direction of the bands, so that a stack (14) of parallelepiped form is formed. This stack is then, as shown in FIG. 13, wound around the winding axis (9) by a winding body (12) in such a way that only the outermost end face, in the exemplary embodiment the end face (15a) of the band (15) is gripped by the winding body (12) and is taken along in the direction of the arrow (32). The other tapes (16, 17 and 18), the end faces of which are dotted, for example, on the adjacent tapes, are forcibly rolled up, too, in such a way that the ends of the individual tapes, not shown, are spaced outside the circumference of the finished carrier body at certain intervals lie. This also creates a carrier body, as shown in principle in the front view in FIG. 2. It would also be possible to align all front ends (15a, 16a, 17a, ...) and to register them simultaneously for the winding process. This could take place immediately after the metal strips have been cut to length while the end faces are pressed together.
Bei dieser Art der Herstellung kann darauf geachtet werden, daß die später zugeführten Bänder in ihrer Länge kürzer gehalten sind, so daß am Umfang des fertigen Trägerkörpers wieder etwa eine gleichmäßige Verteilung der freien äußeren Enden der Bänder vorliegt.FIGS. 14 to 16 show a possibility in which the end faces of a plurality of bands have not to be attached beforehand to form a stack, as in FIG. 12. As shown in Fig. 14, in this method, the free end face (7a) of a first band, ie a pair of bands, is first attached to a winding body (12 '), which consists of a corrugated and a smooth band. After about a quarter turn of the winding body (12 ') then the front end (7a') of the second band (7 ') in the gap between the inner smooth band of first band (7) and the circumference of the winding body (12 ') clamped. This is continued with several tapes in succession, so that, as shown in Fig. 16, after one revolution of the winding body (12 ') about the winding axis (9), four additional tapes (7' to 7˝˝) are now held on the winding body. This process can be continued until the required number of tapes to be combined to form a multi-layer spiral bobbin is reached. With this type of production, care can be taken to ensure that the belts supplied later are kept shorter in length, so that the circumference of the finished carrier body is again approximately uniformly distributed between the free outer ends of the belts.
A winding device (23) is provided here, which can consist, for example, of a rotating disk which is equipped with axially projecting pins (24) which can be withdrawn axially. In the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 17, similar to the threads of a knotted carpet on a warp thread, a plurality of metal bands (39) are fastened with their end faces one behind the other on a base band (7), for example by dots. This end band (7) is fastened with its front end (7a) centrally in the slot of a winding axis (9), but is guided over the circumference of the pins (24) which rotate with the disk (23) around the winding axis. In this way, an approximately cylindrical body can also be formed, as shown in FIG. 18, which has a cavity at its center. However, it would also be possible to wrap the pins (24) on the disk in a correspondingly different manner, for example an elliptical carrier body or one with a different cross-section. After winding, the pins (24) are pulled axially out of the carrier body. Of course, this also applies in each case to the winding core (12, 12 ') of FIGS. 11 to 16.
In all cases, a multi-start wound carrier body is formed, in which the ends (7b) of a large number of bands lie freely outside, which can be seen particularly well from FIG. 18.
