- the invention relates to a method for dressing grinding wheels, the surface of which is provided with an investment material for CBN grains, in which a rotating dressing roller is guided along the counter-rotating surface of the grinding wheel.
- dressing rollers It is known to recondition worn grinding wheels by running a dressing roller along their surface.
- the surface of the dressing roller is provided with diamonds which, when dressing, engage in the worn surface of the grinding wheel and produce a sharp surface there again by crushing the grinding wheel material crystals or grains.
- Dressing rollers are usually guided against the grinding surface at a slight angle of attack of, for example, 10 ° and are advanced with an infeed of, for example, 0.02 to 0.03 mm per revolution.
- CBN Cubic Boron Nitride
- the invention is therefore based on the object of developing a method of the type mentioned at the outset such that the grinding surface of a CBN grinding wheel is optimally sharpened again with little expenditure of time.
- the dressing roller is guided at least twice along the surface, the first guide being carried out at a first, high feed rate, in such a way that dressing crystals of the dressing roller deflect the CBN grains elastically, but on the other hand reset the investment material, while the second guidance takes place at a second, lower feed rate in such a way that the dressing crystals shatter the CBN grains at their tips.
- the worn grinding wheel has rounded CBN grains on the outer circumference of its grinding surface and the spaces between the CBN grains are either filled with smeared workpiece material or with investment material, so that overall there is only a surface with very small depressions with rounded, protruding CBN grains is.
- the CBN grains are now only deflected elastically by the dressing crystals of the dressing roller because the feed speed of the dressing roller has been set relatively high.
- the investment material between the CBN grains, the so-called grain binding, is reset, by initiating a dressing force Fo.
- the grinding wheel has a peripheral speed of 25 to 40 m / s, preferably 35 m / s, the peripheral speed of the dressing roller is between - 25 and - 40 m / s, preferably - 32 m / s, the first Speed is set to 300 to 900 mm / min, preferably 400 mm / min, the second speed, however, is set to 100 to 400 mm / min, preferably 150 mm / min, in particular the pairs of values of dressing roller circumferential speed and grinding wheel circumferential speed are selected in this way that their quotient is between 0.75 and 0.95, preferably 0.92.
- a truncated-cone-shaped dressing roller is used, which lies with the circumferential line in the transition between the conical surfaces on the surface.
- This measure has the advantage that the dressing roller in turn rests with a pointed edge on the surface of the grinding wheel and therefore material removal is particularly successful when the binding or splitting of the CBN grains is reset.
- the dressing roller is guided along a surface line of the surface at the first speed and at the second speed.
- 10 is a total of a grinding wheel, such as can be used, for example, for external cylindrical grinding or for profile grinding.
- the grinding wheel has a diameter of approximately 600 mm and a width of approximately 24 mm.
- the grinding wheel 10 which is worn on its surface after a long period of use, is dressed by means of a dressing roller 11, which is rotatable about an axis 12.
- the axis 12 runs parallel to the axis of the grinding wheel 10 or is slightly inclined relative to the latter.
- An arrow 13 indicates an example of a direction of rotation of the grinding wheel 10.
- An arrow 14 shows that the dressing roller 11 rotates in the same direction or in the opposite direction to the grinding wheel 10.
- an arrow 15 indicates that the dressing roller 11 can be moved back and forth in the direction of its axis 12 over a surface 16 of the grinding wheel 10.
- the dressing roller 11 is preferably double-conical, with two conical surfaces 17 converging approximately in a central plane of the dressing roller 11 in a sharp circumferential line 18 with which the dressing roller 11 rests on the surface 16 of the grinding wheel 10. In the area of this circumferential line 18, the dressing roller 11 is set with diamonds in a manner known per se.
- the circumferential speed on the circumference of the grinding wheel 10 is designated with v 1.
- the peripheral speed v1 is preferably 35 m / s, but can also vary in a range from about 25 to 40 m / s.
- the circumferential speed of the dressing roller 11 is designated with v2.
- the peripheral speed v2 of the dressing roller 11 is preferably - 32 m / s, but can also vary in the range from - 10 to - 40 m / s.
- the minus sign is intended to indicate that the circumferential speed vectors v 1 and v 2 at the point of contact of the dressing roller 11 on the grinding wheel 10 run in opposite directions to one another.
- the dressing roller 11 can, for example, be attached to the left edge of the width of the surface 16 of the grinding wheel 10 in FIG. 2 and be moved to the right from there at a first, high feed rate v 3.
- This first feed rate is preferably 400 mm / min, but can vary in the range between 300 and 900 mm / min.
- the feed of the dressing roller 11 is reversed so that it runs to the left again at a second, lower feed speed v4.
- the dressing roller 11 sweeps over the same surface line on the surface 16, which it had already covered v3 at the feed rate at the feed rate.
- the second, lower feed speed v4 is preferably 150 mm / min, but can also vary in the range between 100 and 400 mm / min.
- Fig. 3 shows the surface of the grinding wheel 10 on a greatly enlarged scale.
- CBN grains 20 are embedded in a ceramic bond 21, which serves as an investment.
- Fig. 3 shows the grinding wheel 10 in the worn state, in which tips 22 of the CBN grains 20 are already largely rounded. There are also no more gaps between the tips 22 of adjacent CBN grains 20, either because the CBN grains 20 have worn down to a first surface 23 of the bond 21 or because these gaps have filled with material of the machined workpiece.
- a relatively high feed speed v 3 is now achieved that the diamonds on the circumferential line 18 of the dressing roller 11 pass the surface of the grinding wheel 10 at a relatively high speed.
- the feed speed v3 is set depending on the modulus of elasticity of the CBN grinding wheel 10 so that when the dressing roller 11 runs with the high feed speed v3, the diamonds on the circumferential line 18 grip the CBN grains 20 in their elastic region.
- Fig. 4 shows that a dressing force F Q 'can be set according to the amount and direction on the peripheral speeds v2 and v3.
- the CBN grains 20 are displaced by the dressing force V Q 'shown in Fig. 4'.
- the binding 21 is on this Way "reset", ie reduced by a first area 24 on the circumference, which is shown in dashed lines in Fig. 4.
- the CBN grains 20 now protrude far beyond the second surface 25 and there is enough space between the CBN grains 20 to pick up material removed from a workpiece to be machined.
- the shape of the chip spaces also ensures that chips cannot penetrate into the binding 21.
- a grinding wheel 10 is obtained with a surface on which again sharp-edged CBN grains 20 project far beyond a surface 25 of the embedding ceramic 21, so that the grinding wheel 10 can again work effectively on a workpiece and achieve high machining rates.
- the dressing roller 11 can not only be guided along a surface line of the grinding wheel 10, but also that it can be guided along a straight line or another line that is slightly inclined to a surface line.
- a synthetic resin or a metal e.g. a sintered or galvanized metal.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for dressing grinding wheels, the surface of which is provided with an investment material for CBN grains, in which a rotating dressing roller is guided along the counter-rotating surface of the grinding wheel.
It is known to recondition worn grinding wheels by running a dressing roller along their surface. The surface of the dressing roller is provided with diamonds which, when dressing, engage in the worn surface of the grinding wheel and produce a sharp surface there again by crushing the grinding wheel material crystals or grains. Dressing rollers are usually guided against the grinding surface at a slight angle of attack of, for example, 10 ° and are advanced with an infeed of, for example, 0.02 to 0.03 mm per revolution.
Methods of the type mentioned above are described in the "Manual of Manufacturing Technology" by G. Spur and Th. Stöferle, Carl Hanser Verlag, Munich, Volume 3/2, 1980, page 144.
It is also known to use CBN grains (CBN = Cubic Boron Nitride) as the grinding wheel material. This grinding wheel material has proven to be extremely resilient and is therefore used in modern grinding machines to achieve high machining rates. The circumference of CBN grinding wheels is usually provided with an investment material into which the CBN grains are inserted. The ratio of grain mass to binding mass is given in so-called concentration numbers, a concentration "150" e.g. means that the proportion of grain binding (investment) is 64% and the proportion of CBN grain itself is 36%.
However, it has been shown in practice that problems can occur when dressing CBN grinding wheels if conventional dressing strategies are used.
The invention is therefore based on the object of developing a method of the type mentioned at the outset such that the grinding surface of a CBN grinding wheel is optimally sharpened again with little expenditure of time.
This object is achieved in that the dressing roller is guided at least twice along the surface, the first guide being carried out at a first, high feed rate, in such a way that dressing crystals of the dressing roller deflect the CBN grains elastically, but on the other hand reset the investment material, while the second guidance takes place at a second, lower feed rate in such a way that the dressing crystals shatter the CBN grains at their tips.
The object underlying the invention is completely achieved in this way.
The worn grinding wheel has rounded CBN grains on the outer circumference of its grinding surface and the spaces between the CBN grains are either filled with smeared workpiece material or with investment material, so that overall there is only a surface with very small depressions with rounded, protruding CBN grains is.
During the first dressing phase, the CBN grains are now only deflected elastically by the dressing crystals of the dressing roller because the feed speed of the dressing roller has been set relatively high. The investment material between the CBN grains, the so-called grain binding, is reset, by initiating a dressing force Fo.
In this way, relatively large voids are again created on the surface between the CBN grains. If, in a second dressing phase, the tips of the CBN grains are fragmented at a slow feed speed of the dressing roller, sharp tips are created there again and the grinding wheel can work again with full effectiveness because there is enough space between the CBN grains sharpened at the tip stands to pick up the machined material of the workpiece.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the grinding wheel has a peripheral speed of 25 to 40 m / s, preferably 35 m / s, the peripheral speed of the dressing roller is between - 25 and - 40 m / s, preferably - 32 m / s, the first Speed is set to 300 to 900 mm / min, preferably 400 mm / min, the second speed, however, is set to 100 to 400 mm / min, preferably 150 mm / min, in particular the pairs of values of dressing roller circumferential speed and grinding wheel circumferential speed are selected in this way that their quotient is between 0.75 and 0.95, preferably 0.92.
These process parameters have proven to be particularly advantageous for standard applications in which a grinding wheel of approximately 600 mm in diameter and approximately 24 mm in thickness is used for external cylindrical grinding of workpieces.
In a further preferred embodiment of the invention, a truncated-cone-shaped dressing roller is used, which lies with the circumferential line in the transition between the conical surfaces on the surface.
This measure has the advantage that the dressing roller in turn rests with a pointed edge on the surface of the grinding wheel and therefore material removal is particularly successful when the binding or splitting of the CBN grains is reset.
In a further preferred embodiment of the invention, the dressing roller is guided along a surface line of the surface at the first speed and at the second speed.
This measure has the advantage that a simple sequence of movements is possible in which the entire width of the grinding wheel is run over, it being understood that the "surface line" can also be understood to mean a line which is slightly inclined to the grinding wheel axis, as was described at the beginning.
Finally, a particularly good effect is achieved if a ceramic or a metallic binder, in particular a galvanically applied binder, is used as the investment material.
This has the advantage that the CBN grains are held particularly firmly by the investment material, so that there is no fear of the grains breaking out.
Further advantages result from the description and the attached drawing.
It goes without saying that the features mentioned above and those yet to be explained below can be used not only in the respectively specified combination but also in other combinations or on their own without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Bei einem typischen Anwendungsbeispiel hat die Schleifscheibe einen Durchmesser von ca. 600 mm und eine Breite von ca. 24 mm.1 and 2, 10 is a total of a grinding wheel, such as can be used, for example, for external cylindrical grinding or for profile grinding. In a typical application example, the grinding wheel has a diameter of approximately 600 mm and a width of approximately 24 mm.
The grinding
An
The
In Fig. 1, the circumferential speed on the circumference of the
In a corresponding manner, the circumferential speed of the
To dress the grinding
As soon as the right edge in Fig. 2 is reached, the feed of the
Fig. 3 shows the surface of the grinding
In the worn state of the
By the procedure described above with FIGS. 1 and 2, a relatively high feed speed v 3 is now achieved that the diamonds on the
Fig. 4 shows that a dressing force F Q 'can be set according to the amount and direction on the peripheral speeds v₂ and v₃. In the first phase with high feed speed v₃, the
Zwischenräume, deren zweite Oberfläche 25 deutlich tiefer liegt als die erste Oberfläche 23 des Ausgangszustandes in Fig. 3.This creates 20 chip spaces between the undamaged CBN grains, i.e. Spaces, the
As a result, the
During the second movement of the dressing
In this way, a grinding
It goes without saying that the method described above by way of example is only one of numerous possible variants which are conceivable within the scope of the present invention.
Thus, it has already been mentioned that the dressing
Of course, the method according to the invention can be applied to both cylindrical and conical grinding wheels, as are used for all known grinding techniques.
Finally, a synthetic resin or a metal, e.g. a sintered or galvanized metal.
