- a fuel injection device of the type mentioned at the outset is suitable for carrying out the method, in which, according to the invention, the fault reporting device also includes faults in the actuator feedback element and / or the servo circuit means of the changeover switch, the actuator or its driver stage switches from the output of the servo amplifier to the output of the arithmetic circuit, and that a characteristic curve simulator is provided for the operating characteristic of the actuator, which can be used in the event of a fault to convert the command variable specified by the arithmetic circuit into a control signal for the actuator is.
- the invention provides the advantage that, even in the event of a malfunction, the actuator is actuated in the sense of a quantity control, all parameters fed to the arithmetic circuit still being used to calculate the actuation signal.
- FIG. 1 shows a basic circuit diagram of the device according to the invention
- FIG. 2 shows an exemplary embodiment with pulse-width-modulated control of the actuator and a voltage control
- FIG. 3 shows in more detail a modulation stage from FIG. 2
- FIG. 4 shows an exemplary embodiment with pulse-width modulation and current control in normal operation or voltage control in emergency mode
- FIG. 5 shows an embodiment with current control in normal and emergency mode
- FIG. 6 shows an embodiment as in FIG. 5, but with changed error detection.
- various operating variable signals of an engine 2 are fed to an electronic arithmetic circuit 1.
- These are primarily signals from a speed sensor n and an accelerator position sensor g, furthermore, for example, an engine temperature sensor T, a boost pressure sensor p, etc.
- An electromechanical actuator member 3, for example a rotary magnet acting on the quantity actuator of a distributor injection pump is mechanically connected to a feedback sensor 4, the output signal r of which is representative of the position of the actuator 3.
- a potentiometer feedback unit is intended, the feedback unit can also be of a different type and the actuator can be optically or inductively scanned, for example, and its feedback signal can also be in digital form and - if necessary - converted into an analog signal in a known manner.
- the feedback signal r is fed to a servo amplifier 5 as a controlled variable.
- the output signal a of the arithmetic circuit 1 is supplied to the servo amplifier 5 as a reference variable, which is usually initially in digital form and can be brought into analog form in or outside the arithmetic circuit if necessary.
- the output signal of the servo amplifier 5 is fed to the electromechanical actuator 3, possibly via driver or modulator stages, which are not shown in this basic circuit diagram for the sake of simplicity, via a controlled changeover switch 6. In the position of the switch 6 shown, there is thus a closed servo loop.
- FIG. 1 also shows a fault reporting device 7, to which the feedback signal r and, as shown here, the output signal of the arithmetic circuit 1 is also supplied.
- the fault reporting device 7 can check according to various criteria whether the feedback signal r is plausible, for example whether the tendency of the signal r in a reasonable time reflects the tendency of the signal a, whether the signal r is within certain limits and the like.
- the malfunction reporting device transmits a changeover signal u to the changeover switch 6 and the changeover switch 6 switches over to the position shown in broken lines.
- the actuator 3 is separated from the output of the servo amplifier 5 and connected to the output of the computing circuit 1 via a characteristic curve simulator 8.
- This simulator contains the essentially non-linear working characteristic of the actuator 3, i.e. the dependence of its adjustment stroke or angle of rotation on the control current or the control voltage.
- the simulator 8 can indeed be implemented analogously in a discrete construction, e.g. by means of a resistor-diode network, however, will generally consist of a memory of the arithmetic circuit 1, in which the above-mentioned dependency is fixed and the content of which is taken into account in the event of a malfunction in the formation of the output signal a.
- the simulator 8 can also take into account families of characteristic curves whose parameters are, for example, the operating voltage.
- the servo circuit for the actuator 3 is thus shut down and the arithmetic circuit 1 controls the adjustment movement of the actuator 3 in accordance with the working characteristic curve recorded in the simulator 8 this means that the engine operation 6 is fully maintained and continues to do so with a fuel quantity control and not only with a mere speed control as in the prior art.
- the servo circuit for the actuator 3 is advantageously carried out in an analog design, since this allows particularly short control time constants to be achieved.
- the fault reporting device 7 and the characteristic curve simulator 8 will form part of the arithmetic circuit 1, since, using microcomputers and the associated memories, both the possibilities of the error detection criteria and the storage of the operating characteristics of the actuator, for example as a family of curves with the operating voltage or. the like as parameters, are extremely diverse.
- a protective diode 11 is connected in parallel with the coil 9, the other connection of which is connected to the operating voltage V B of the vehicle (battery voltage).
- the output signal a of the arithmetic circuit 1 is in digital form and is supplied to a pulse width modulator 14 via an 8-bit bus 12 or a switching line 13.
- a pulse-width-modulated control signal a ′ of constant frequency is obtained from the output signal a and, moreover, a rectangular clock signal s is generated.
- the feedback signal r is also fed to the arithmetic circuit 1, brought into binary form in an A / D converter 21 and then fed to the fault reporting device 7 of the arithmetic circuit.
- the fault signaling device 7 receives the output signal a of the computing circuit 1 as a second signal.
- the device 7 is not necessarily to be understood as a physical unit, it will generally be implemented in software in the computing circuit 1. If the device 7 detects a fault by comparing the feedback signal r with predetermined limit data and / or the output signal a, it outputs a switchover signal u to the controlled changeover switch 6 and reports (signal m) to the arithmetic circuit the fault, so that the output signal a is formed using the characteristic curve simulator 8.
- the switch 6 is now in the dashed position, ie there is emergency operation.
- the aforementioned servo circuit is open and the driver stage 10 is driven directly by the pulse width modulated control signal a '. It can be seen that both in Normal operation and in the event of a fault, voltage control of the actuator 3 is present.
- the embodiment shown in FIG. 4 differs from the one just described in that current control of the actuator 3 takes place in normal operation.
- a measuring resistor R M is provided, through which the current I M flows through the coil 9 (or a part of this current).
- a comparator 22 compares the voltage occurring at this measuring resistor with the output voltage of the servo amplifier 5.
- the output signal of the comparator 22 is at the reset input of a flip-flop 23, to whose set input the clock signal s is supplied.
- the output of the flip-flop 23 can be connected to the input of the driver stage 10 via the controlled changeover switch 6.
- the second modulator is thus implemented here by the flip-flop 23 controlled by the comparator.
- the changeover switch 6 can be inserted into the circuit in the manner shown in FIG. In normal operation, the function of the circuit corresponds completely to that of FIG. 4.
- one input of comparator 22 is separated from the output of servo amplifier 5 and connected to the output of filter 20 (signal a ⁇ ), so that pulse width modulation also in emergency operation takes place in the flip-flop 23, taking into account the control signal a ⁇ and the current I M through the actuator coil 9.
- a modified feedback signal r ' is additionally obtained.
- an error amplifier 24 with a subsequent servo amplifier 25 is provided instead of the servo amplifier 5.
- the two inputs of the error amplifier 24, the signals a ⁇ and r are supplied.
- the modified feedback signal r ' At the output of the error amplifier (24) is the modified feedback signal r ', which directly indicates the deviation of the feedback signal r from the control signal a ⁇ in analog form.
- This modified feedback signal r 'and optionally (as indicated by dashed lines) also the feedback signal r are supplied to the arithmetic circuit 1 and evaluated by the fault reporting device.
- an additional error amplifier could be provided in the circuit of FIG. 5, which only serves to form the modified feedback signal r 'from the signals a ⁇ and r.
- the feedback signal can also be monitored for its absolute value, which means that not only a failure of the servo circuit but also the causes of the failure can be identified. If the working range is exceeded or undershot, it can be concluded that there is an error in the feedback (eg line break or ground fault) or in the servo electronics or in the actuator.
- the pulse width modulation pulse duty factor is changed by a factor that corresponds to the quotient of the target operating voltage / actual operating voltage, i.e. as the operating voltage drops, the respective pulse duty factor assigned to different actuator positions in a stored table is increased.
- changeover switch 6 ⁇ used in connection with the invention is not intended to cover a specific component alone, but rather to mean in general the possibility of controlled switching of the actuator from the output of the servo circuit to the output of the arithmetic circuit.
- the servo circuit works analog in the exemplary embodiments shown, an at least partial implementation in digital technology is also possible. Likewise, the computing circuit and corresponding software could be used at least in part to implement the servo circuit.

The invention relates to a method for controlling and regulating an internal combustion engine, in which an output signal is calculated in a computing device as a function of operating quantity signals, such as the speed, the accelerator pedal position, the engine temperature, and this is used to control an electromechanical actuator for the injection quantity , wherein a servo circuit is provided for the actuator, to which the calculated output signal is fed as a reference variable and the feedback signal of a feedback sensor connected to the actuator is fed as a control variable, the feedback signal is checked for errors in the feedback signal and the servo circuit is opened in the event of a detected fault, and on an electronic fuel injection device for internal combustion engines for performing the method, with an electromechanical actuator for controlling the injection quantity and a feedback assigned to this for the delivery of the actual position representative of the actuator feedback signal, with a computing circuit, the speed signal of a speed sensor and other, with the help of transducers determined operating variable signals, such as for the accelerator pedal position, the engine temperature, etc. are supplied, with a servo circuit for the actuator, which as a reference variable, the output signal of the computing circuit and the control signal is supplied as a control variable, with a fault signaling device for faults in the actuator feedback and with a controlled changeover switch which, in the event of faults in the feedback signal, separates the electromechanical actuator from the output of the servo amplifier of the servo circuit.
From DE-PS 31 36 135 such a device has become known, in which a detector for malfunctions of the actuator and the feedback is provided. If the detector of the feedback device detects unusual, ie incorrect, values, the control line of the actuator is separated from the servo amplifier and to the output of a Auxiliary arithmetic circuit switched, which outputs a control signal to the actuator depending on the actual engine speed and the accelerator pedal position signal. In this emergency mode, the servo circuit is deactivated, as is the arithmetic circuit, and it is only regulated to the speed specified by the accelerator pedal. If the detector detects incorrect values for the actuator, the fuel supply is interrupted.
With regard to other known solutions (for example DE-OS 27 35 596), which provide for a complete interruption of the fuel supply in the event of an actuator feedback fault, the known solution described above represents an advance since the driver maintains any desired engine speed by actuating the accelerator pedal can. However, all the advantages that the regulation of engine or motor vehicle operation with the aid of the arithmetic circuit (i.e. the actual controller) offers are lost. The parameters supplied to the arithmetic circuit, such as engine temperature, boost pressure, outside temperature, air pressure etc., are not taken into account in emergency operation, so that e.g. unfavorable exhaust gas values, soot formation (in diesel engines) and the like are the result.
It is an object of the invention to enable emergency operation in the event of malfunctions in the feedback device or the servo circuit, which at least largely corresponds to normal driving operation.
This goal can be achieved with a method of the type mentioned at the outset, in which, according to the invention, in the event of a detected fault, the reference variable determined in the arithmetic circuit is converted into a control signal for the actuator, taking into account the working characteristic of the actuator.
A fuel injection device of the type mentioned at the outset is suitable for carrying out the method, in which, according to the invention, the fault reporting device also includes faults in the actuator feedback element and / or the servo circuit means of the changeover switch, the actuator or its driver stage switches from the output of the servo amplifier to the output of the arithmetic circuit, and that a characteristic curve simulator is provided for the operating characteristic of the actuator, which can be used in the event of a fault to convert the command variable specified by the arithmetic circuit into a control signal for the actuator is.
The invention provides the advantage that, even in the event of a malfunction, the actuator is actuated in the sense of a quantity control, all parameters fed to the arithmetic circuit still being used to calculate the actuation signal.
The invention together with its further advantages and features is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments which are illustrated in the drawing. 1 shows a basic circuit diagram of the device according to the invention, FIG. 2 shows an exemplary embodiment with pulse-width-modulated control of the actuator and a voltage control, FIG. 3 shows in more detail a modulation stage from FIG. 2, FIG. 4 shows an exemplary embodiment with pulse-width modulation and current control in normal operation or voltage control in emergency mode, FIG. 5 shows an embodiment with current control in normal and emergency mode, and FIG. 6 shows an embodiment as in FIG. 5, but with changed error detection.
The feedback signal r is fed to a
Bei Erkennen einer Störung gibt die Störungsmeldungseinrichtung an den Umschalter 6 ein Umschaltsignal u ab und der Umschalter 6 schaltet in die strichliert eingezeichnete Stellung um.FIG. 1 also shows a fault reporting device 7, to which the feedback signal r and, as shown here, the output signal of the
As a result, the actuator 3 is separated from the output of the
In this emergency operation in the event of a fault, the servo circuit for the actuator 3 is thus shut down and the
In practice, the servo circuit for the actuator 3 is advantageously carried out in an analog design, since this allows particularly short control time constants to be achieved.
In many cases, however, the fault reporting device 7 and the
Parallel zur Spule 9, deren anderer Anschluß an der Betriebsspannung VB des Fahrzeuges (Batteriespannung) liegt, ist eine Schutzdiode 11 geschaltet.2 is a connection of a coil 9 of the actuator 3 at the output of a
The output signal a of the
As can be seen in FIG. 3, the
The other input of the
In the position shown of the
The feedback signal r is also fed to the
The embodiment shown in FIG. 4 differs from the one just described in that current control of the actuator 3 takes place in normal operation. For this purpose, a measuring resistor R M is provided, through which the current I M flows through the coil 9 (or a part of this current). A
In order to enable current control of the actuator also in emergency operation, starting from the circuit according to FIG. 4, the
The embodiment shown in Fig. 6 corresponds essentially to that of FIG. 5, but here a modified feedback signal r 'is additionally obtained. To this end an
Because the difference between the control signal a˝ and the feedback signal r ′ is formed in an analog manner, a representative error value is available at all times, which can be used without restriction, i.e. can be processed immediately in the arithmetic circuit without being tied to specific times. In the case of digital difference formation, the temporal relationship between the control signal and the feedback signal converted into a digital signal is not ensured due to the sequential operation of the arithmetic circuit. The use of the modified feedback signal r 'thus has the advantage that one is not tied to specific expiry times and the processing speed is determined exclusively by the desired response period of the error detection.
As already indicated above, the feedback signal can also be monitored for its absolute value, which means that not only a failure of the servo circuit but also the causes of the failure can be identified. If the working range is exceeded or undershot, it can be concluded that there is an error in the feedback (eg line break or ground fault) or in the servo electronics or in the actuator.
If no regulated operating voltage but the battery voltage of a vehicle is used to control the actuator, operating voltage fluctuations that would have an immediate effect on the actuator position can be compensated for in a simple manner by means of the pulse width modulation pulse duty factor using the arithmetic circuit. In the simplest case, the pulse duty factor is changed by a factor that corresponds to the quotient of the target operating voltage / actual operating voltage, i.e. as the operating voltage drops, the respective pulse duty factor assigned to different actuator positions in a stored table is increased.
The term "
Although the servo circuit works analog in the exemplary embodiments shown, an at least partial implementation in digital technology is also possible. Likewise, the computing circuit and corresponding software could be used at least in part to implement the servo circuit.
