Definitions
- the present invention relates to a test assembly for a differential electrical protection device such as a differential switch or differential circuit breaker as well as to devices which are provided with it.
- Devices of this kind often include test means actuated by a push button and making it possible to verify that the electrical imbalance between the main conductors passing through the device and passing through a differential toroid, triggers the protection device. and opening, by a suitable mechanism, the main contact or contacts.
- the actuation of the test push button causes a partial diversion of one of the main conductors, through a resistor, to another main conductor, the imbalance thus produced, detected by the differential toroid, causing the actuation of the mechanism in the direction of contact opening.
- test devices currently used on these devices have the drawback of being relatively complex and difficult to assemble and, consequently, expensive.
- the test resistor is often poorly protected and can be burnt out in the event of a malfunction.
- the invention proposes to remedy these drawbacks and to provide a test set for an electrical protection device such as a differential switch or a differential circuit breaker, which is particularly simple and inexpensive.
- Another object of the invention is to provide such a test assembly which provides excellent protection of the calibrated test resistance.
- Another objective of the invention is to allow a power supply independent of the device from above or from below.
- Another object of the invention is to provide such an assembly which can be easily mounted in an existing appliance housing.
- Another object of the invention is to provide such an assembly forming a unit capable of being pre-assembled, and then mounted, in an apparatus, in a particularly suitable location.
- the subject of the invention is a test assembly for a differential electrical protection device, such as a differential switch or differential circuit breaker, of the type comprising a push button actuating contact means for partially bypassing a main conductor of the device.
- a differential electrical protection device such as a differential switch or differential circuit breaker
- a calibrated test resistor with a conductive strip having two elastic branches cooperating at their free ends, with a fixed contact connected to one of the conductors of the main circuit and with a fixed contact of the calibrated test resistor, the first branch being arranged in the course of a contact opening mechanism element of the apparatus arranged to move said first branch away from its contact when the main contacts of the device are opened, the second branch cooperating with the push button arranged to push it towards the contact of the test resistor, characterized in that it comprises a support formed of an insulating part receiving the blade and forming the housing in which the push-button slides, said support having means allowing it to be simply fixed, immobilized or clipped on an electrical differential protection device inside
- the conductive strip is bent approximately at right angles, the first branch, preferably the longest, extending in the vicinity of the mechanism element intended to cause its separation from its fixed contact, if the device is in the open position, while the second branch, preferably the shortest, passes under the push button capable of moving in a direction substantially parallel to that of the first branch.
- the blade thus produced can easily be simply inserted by its first branch through a passage arranged at the level of the support for its elbow, so as to come into contact with the fixed contact, the elasticity of the second branch normally ensuring its separation from the test resistance contact as well as the recall of the push button in the inoperative position emerged from the device housing.
- the insulating piece forming the support can advantageously receive the test resistor, for example by simply clipping the two ends of the resistor, one of the ends then being disposed in the path of the second branch to form the fixed contact cooperating with said second plugged.
- Said insulating part may also include means, such as for example grooves, for receiving a printed circuit board.
- the assembly thus produced with the insulating part can be provided with means enabling it to be simply fixed, immobilized or clipped onto an electrical differential protection device and inside the housing of this device. Clipping is preferred.
- the part may for example comprise a cross-member, two lateral clipping tabs forming the branches of a U, the cross-member of which would be the base, the push-button housing preferably being arranged at the junction of a leg and the corresponding end of the cross member, the cross ends being further arranged to receive, by clipping the ends of the resistance extending parallel to the cross member.
- the printed circuit board when the device is designed to receive it, can advantageously be inserted to extend parallel to the cross-member, between the clipping tabs and in the grooves arranged for this purpose.
- the assembly thus formed can be clipped for example onto a differential toroid assembly itself intended to be easily mounted or clipped to the device in the housing, which makes it possible to deliver complex assemblies formed from the torus and the assembly test.
- the device shown is a differential switch and has a housing 1, part of which is shown diagrammatically. Through a passage formed in the upper part of the housing 1 emerges the handle 2 of a usual mechanism which will not be otherwise detailed and which drives the main movable contacts of the differential switch. This mechanism is locked in the position of approaching the contacts and a click on an adequate part of the mechanism in the event of imbalance detection causes the opening of the locked mechanism which can be brought back to its closed position by action of an operator on the lever 2. In FIG. 1, the lever 2 is in the position corresponding to the closing of the main contacts of the device.
- the test device comprises an insulating support part 3 made of plastic material consisting of a cross-member 4 at an angle having at its two ends two returns 5, 6 from which extend two clipping tabs 7, 8 in the manner of a U, the cross-member 4 also being intended to provide insulation with respect to the windings of the torus.
- Returns 5, 6 extend towards their end opposite to that carrying the legs 7, 8, by ends 9, 10, in which are formed notches 11 in the bottom of which can come to rest, by being preferably clipped there, the end conductors 12, 13 of a calibrated test resistance 14. When the latter is thus disposed with its ends in the notches, it extends parallel to the cross-member 4 and in front of it.
- the returns 5, 6 each have a rectilinear groove, the two grooves facing each other to allow the insertion by sliding of a printed circuit board 15.
- the return 6 has internally a passage 16 of generally rectangular section, the two large faces which delimit this passage being however each provided with a cylindrical recess to form a guide housing 17 for a push button 18 of corresponding cylindrical shape, the cylinder formed by the push button having, in its lower half, a wide slot 19, the bottom of which forms two divergent sides joined by a radial central edge 20, the slot 19 delimiting in the cylinder two legs 21 ending in external locking edges 22.
- the elasticity of the tabs 21 allows the push-button 18 to be put in place in its housing while the extraction of the push-button is prevented because the lugs formed by the flanges 22 penetrate under shoulders 23 widening the part guide housing 17.
- the passage 16 is crossed by two elements integral with the walls of the return 6, namely an element 24 and a spacer 25.
- the element 24 crosses the passage in the axis of movement of the push button 18 and forms an extreme stop for the displacement of the second branch 32 of the blade 30.
- the element 24 has its left-hand part below the level at which the conductive end 12 of the resistor 14 is located when it is located at the bottom of its slot 11.
- the central part of the element 24 forms a central boss 26 on either side of which are arranged passages 27 which allow the passage of the tabs 21 of the push button 18, the boss 26 serving as a stop for the second branch of the elastic blade or, in the absence thereof, of the push button 18 itself.
- the spacer 25 has a circular section and is located at a very short distance from one of the bottoms 28 of the passage 16, determining a narrow slot 29 therein.
- the conductive metal strip 30 is folded back to form two branches of unequal length, namely a first branch of great length 31 and a second branch of short length 32.
- the first branch 31 is inserted through the slot 29 and goes downwards, while the second branch 32 crosses the wide slot 19 of the button- pusher 18 above the element 24 with its boss 26.
- the branch 31 abuts elastically, by its contact end 33, against a fixed contact 34 connected to one of the main conductors of the device while the short branch 32 tends to elastically move away from the resistance end 12 which passes through the passage 16, towards the free end of the blade branch 32, to push back to the up the push button 18 in the emerged position.
- the device detects, via its detection toroid 35, the imbalance generated by the bypass as shown in the diagram of the Figure 9 and, under the effect of known means, the mechanism starts to trip, the main contacts then being quickly brought back to the open state of contact interruption. Simultaneously, the movement of the mechanism causes the tilting of an arm 36 of the contact opening mechanism 37 which will move counterclockwise and strike the branch 31 of the blade 30 and move this branch 31 away from the contact 34 , so that the test resistor 14 is no longer in electrical connection with this contact.
- the pre-assembled test assembly by its clip tabs 7, 8, can very easily be fixed to a differential toroid assembly, this assembly itself being ready to be mounted in the case of a differential circuit breaker or switch.

Abstract
