Abstract

In order to be able to sow grass seeds or other seeds in one working time, bury them in the ground and, after sowing, leave a smooth soil surface without protruding stones or the like, a sowing machine was produced which, according to the present invention, consists of the following combination of parts already known in themselves: a front carriage (1), the frame (7) of which supports a seed cassette (9) having outlet openings for seeds, said front carriage being supported by a trellis roller (4), a motor (8) driving said roller which rolls on the ground so as to bury the seeds in the ground, a clod breaker (14), which is connected to the frame and which slides on the ground to level the ground, and a rear carriage (7) which is supported by another trellis roller (16) and which comprises a seat (17) for the operator of the machine, said rear carriage being connected to the frame of the front carriage rigidly in the vertical direction but so swiveling horizontally.

Description

SOWING MACHINE.
This invention relates to a sowing machine having the capacity to sow out grass seed and other seed corns, to put the seed down, to cultivate the soil and to leave a smooth surface of ground without up sticking stones and similar, said sowing machine being produced according to this invention the characeristics of which will be made clear from the following patent claims.
Below the invention will be described more in detail with reference to the attached drawings, where Fig. 1 schematically and perspectively shows a side view of a sowing machine made in accordance with the invention and driving to the right on the drawing, and
Fig. 2 shows more in detail the machine during a left hand turn, thereby making visible the left side of the machine. The sowing machine has a fore cart 1, which by means of a joint 2 with vertical axis is disconnectably connected to a back cart 3 vertically stiff but horizontally swingable. The fore cart is carried by a lattice roller 4 rolling on the ground and driven by a motor 8 arranged on the frame 7 of the fore cart via an endless chain 5 and a gear box 6 on the right hand side of the sowing machine. The frame carries on its front a sow box 9 for grass seed or other seed. Below the sow box is provided with feeding openings, not shown, for seed, said openings are provided with feeding devices, also not shown. These feeding devices are driven by the lattice roller via a transmission belt 12 arranged on a belt wheel 10 on the to the left protruding shaft of the lattice roller, and a belt wheel 11 on the shaft of the feeding device. 13 is a stretching device for the transmission belt. A clod-crusher 14 drags on the ground between the fore and back carts. The clod-crusher is connected to the fore cart by chains 15 or wires.
The back cart 3 is carried by a lattice roller 16 rolling on ground and has a chair 17 for the driver of the machine. A steering arm 18 extends backwards from the fore cart towards said chair for the steering of the machine and has said arm operating devices for the motor 19 etcetera. When sowing seed the driver of the machine has to open the feeding openings of the box 9 in a suitable extent by means of operating devices 20 arranged for this purpose and further to start and to drive the machine. The seed will now fall from the sow box to the ground and put into the soil by the lattice roller 4 driven by the motor. The lattice roller 4 will in some degree skid along the ground surface, which fact increases the degree of putting the seed into the soil and cooperates to the crumble of clod and similar. The following clod-crusher 14 smoothes the soil surface and presses eventually up-sticking stones into the soil. The driver can contribute to this by keeping his feet on the clod-crusher thereby pressing more or less hardly against the same. The lattice roller 16 of the back cart 3 will thereafter leave a suitable loose soil surface after the machine. Thus by means of the machine according to the invention one will in one tempo of work be able to sow grass seed or other seed, to put it down into the soil, to cultivate the soil and to obtain a loose soil surface without up-sticking stones after the machine. The clod-crusher can be made with a frame 21 surrounding a lattice cloth 22.
In order to support the fore cart 1 when disconnected from the back cart 3 the fore cart can be provided with supports23, which are swingable towards the ground.
