Abstract

The package support device comprises a hollow cylindrical rotatable winding core member possessing a substantially cylindrical support surface for the wound-up printed products. At the winding core member there is formed a ring-shaped groove extending in the circumferential direction of the winding core member and open towards the outside. Accommodated within such ring-shaped groove is a winding band wound upon the winding core member. The ring-shaped groove can be covered by a cover member supported at the winding core member. This cover member rotates with the winding core member and is displaceable in the direction of the lengthwise axis of such winding core member in order to expose the ring-shaped groove. The cover member can also be constructed to be rotatable in relation to the winding core. A throughpass opening for the winding band is formed in the cover member.

Description

The present invention relates to a winding carrier for the intermediate storage of wound printed products, in particular newspapers, magazines and the like.

From CH-A 652 379 or the corresponding US-A 4,532,750 a winding unit is known, which consists of a hollow cylindrical winding body, on which the printed products are wound in a shingled formation, and a storage spool for a winding tape arranged inside the same. This winding body is supported by ribs on a continuous shaft which projects above the winding body and on which the supply spool is rotatably mounted. A drive wheel is also connected to the latter, which is also mounted on the shaft and which can be brought into contact with a pivotably mounted friction wheel in order to set the supply spool in rotation. A slot is provided in the winding body through which the winding tape arranged in the interior of the winding body can pass.

The winding tape is always transported and stored with the winding body. Before winding up printed products, the required length of winding tape is unwound from the supply reel and wound onto a tape reel arranged outside the winding body for temporary storage. The winding tape is withdrawn from this tape reel when the printed products are wound up and wound up with the printed products on the winding body. The unused winding tape length remains wound on the supply reel.

The construction of this known winding unit is now very complex, which makes it more expensive to manufacture. This is particularly important because a very large number of such winding units are required in a printing company. This winding unit takes up a lot of space in the direction of the shaft, which projects laterally over the winding body. In addition, a separate drive is required to unwind the winding tape from the supply reel, which must be provided in addition to the drive for the winding body.

In the unpublished EP-A 0 236 561 [document according to Art. 54 (3)] a winding support of the type mentioned at the outset is now known which is simpler in construction and easier to handle than the winding unit explained above. In this winding carrier, the outwardly open annular groove in which the winding tape is accommodated is laterally offset. This ensures that when winding up printed products, the winding tape wrapped between the individual printed product windings does not come to rest over the annular groove, which can prevent the printed products from being pressed into the annular groove.

However, this solution has the disadvantage that the winding of the winding tape from the winding core does not take place in the same plane as the subsequent winding of the winding tape together with the printed products. It is therefore necessary to deflect the winding tape when unwinding from the winding core and winding it onto a winding tape spool provided at the winding station.

The present invention has for its object to provide a winding carrier of the type mentioned simple and space-saving structure that can be handled and stored with the least possible effort.

According to the invention, this object is achieved by the features of claim 1.

Due to the cover, the contact surface for the printed products remains continuous despite the deepening. This allows the recess to be arranged at any suitable location, in particular also where the layers come to rest when the printed products are wound up together with the winding tape.

Bevorzugte Weiterausgestaltungen des erfindungsgemässen Wickelträgers bilden Gegenstand der abhängigen Ansprüche 2 bis 15.Preferred further developments of the winding support according to the invention form the subject of dependent claims 2 to 15.

  • 7-10 in side view of a winding station in different phases of the winding of printed products,
  • 11 + 12 in section or in side view a part of a winding carrier according to a second embodiment,
  • Fig. 13 in cross section a part of a winding support according to a third embodiment, and
  • 14 shows a section along the line XIV-XIV in FIG. 13.

The winding carrier 1 shown in FIGS. 1-4 has a hollow cylindrical winding core 2, the longitudinal axis of which is designated 2a. The outer surface of the winding core 2 is designed as a cylindrical bearing surface 3. In the core there is also a recess 4 in the form of an annular groove which is open to the outside. The opening of this annular groove 4, which opening is essentially arranged in the plane of the support surface 3, is designated by 5 in FIG. 2. The annular groove 4 is located approximately in the middle between the end faces of the winding core 2 and lies in the central plane designated E, which extends at right angles to the longitudinal axis 2a of the winding core 2. In this annular groove 4 a winding tape 6 is accommodated which is wound on the winding core 2 and which is connected at one end to the winding core 2. The individual winding layers of the winding tape 6 wound on the winding core 2 are designated by 7.

The annular groove 4 is covered by an annular cover 8, which is held on the winding core 2. The cover 8 is not completely ge closed so that a passage opening 9 is left open for the winding tape 6 (Fig. 4). The cover 8 is displaceable in the direction of the longitudinal axis 2a of the winding core 2, ie in the direction of the arrows B, B '- (FIGS. 2 and 3). Cams 10 protrude from the cover 8, which engage in guide slots 11 which are provided on the winding core 2 (FIG. 3). By means of the cams 10, the cover 8 is guided in the guide slots 11 in the direction of displacement B, B 'and is also secured against rotation with respect to the winding core 2. This means that the cover 8 rotates with the winding core 2.

The free end 12 of the winding tape 6 is provided with a closure part 13 of a Velcro fastener. The other closure part 14 of this Velcro closure is located at a distance from the free end 12 on the outer side of the wound winding tape 6, as shown in FIG. 4. The distance of this other closure part 14 from the winding tape end 12 and the length of this closure part 14 is dimensioned such that this closure part 14 or at least part of it is located on the outermost winding layer 7 ', so that when the winding tape 6 is wound on the winding core 2, the closure part 13 can be brought together at the end of the winding tape 12 with the other closure part 14 of the Velcro fastener. In this way, the free end of the winding tape 12 is held releasably. As will be described with reference to FIGS. 5 and 6, the end of the winding tape 12 is releasably retained even with printed products wound on the winding core 2 by means of the Velcro fastener 13, 14.

In Fig. 1, the winding support 1 is in the empty state, i.e. before winding up printed products. Most of the winding tape 6 is wound lying on the winding core 2 in the annular groove 4. The annular groove 4 is covered by the cover 8. The winding tape 6 is passed through the passage opening 9 and is wound onto the outside of the cover 8 with a few winding layers 7a. As already explained, the winding tape end 12 is detachably held on the next winding layer 7 'by means of the Velcro fastener 13, 14.

Beim in Fig. 6 dargestellten fertigen Wickel 15 wirkt der Verschlussteil 13 des Klettenverschlusses am Ende 12 des Wickelbandes 6 mit dem Klettenverschlussteil 14 auf der Aussenseite der äussersten Wickelbandlage 17' zusammen.5 and 6 of the winding carrier 1 according to FIGS. 1-4 with wound printed products such as newspapers, magazines, inserts and the like shows ge. 6 shows the finished roll 15, while FIG. 5 shows that only part 15a of the roll is formed. 5, the winding 15 consists of individual winding layers 16 formed by the printed products, between which the winding tape 6 is wrapped. The individual winding tape layers are designated 17 in FIGS. 5 and 6. The outermost winding tape layer, which corresponds to the outermost winding layer 7 'in FIGS. 1 and 4 and which carries the closure part 14 of the Velcro fastener, is designated 17'. In the finished winding 15 shown in FIG. 6, the closure part 13 of the Velcro fastener at the end 12 of the winding tape 6 interacts with the Velcro closure part 14 on the outside of the outermost winding tape layer 17 '.

The formation of a winding 15 will now be explained with reference to FIGS. 7-10.

Im Gestell 22 ist ferner eine Aufnahmespule 24 für das Wickelband 6 gelagert, die mit einem nicht näher dargestellten Antrieb gekoppelt werden kann.7-10, a winding station 20 is shown purely schematically, which is known per se and is very similar, for example, to the winding stations described in CH-PS 652 379 or the corresponding US-PS 4,532,750 and DE -PS 31 23 888 or the corresponding US-PS 4,438,618 are described in more detail. This winding station 20 has a feed in the form of a belt conveyor 21 which is designed as a rocker and is pivotally mounted in a frame 22 about the axis 21 a. This belt conveyor 21 has a detaching arrangement 23, which is shown only in a purely schematic manner and which, in a manner to be described below, serves to grasp and detach the winding belt end 12. The Ablöseanord voltage 23 can for example be constructed similarly to the winding tape detaching device shown and described in CH-PS 652 379 and the corresponding US-PS 4,532,750. In the frame 22, a take-up spool 24 for the winding tape 6 is also mounted, which can be coupled to a drive, not shown.

Before the winding process begins, a winding carrier 1 is inserted into the winding station 20 in the empty state shown in FIG. 1. In this empty state of the winding carrier 1, as already mentioned, some winding layers 7a of the winding tape 6 are wound on the outside of the cover 8. 7 shows the empty winding carrier 1 inserted into the winding station 20. The latter is now rotated in the direction of arrow C (FIG. 8) by means of a drive (not shown). The detachment arrangement 23 now detects the free end 12 of the winding tape 6, detaches it from the next winding layer 7 ′ and now deflects the winding tape 6 unwound as the winding core 2 continues to rotate in the direction toward the take-up spool 24. The unwound winding tape 6 is guided to the take-up spool 24, which is also provided with a closure part of a Velcro fastener, which is brought together with the closure part 13 at the end 12 of the winding tape 6. The winding tape 6 unwound from the winding core 2 is now wound onto the driven take-up spool 24.

As soon as the outer winding layers 7a of the winding tape 6 lying on the cover 8 are unwound, the winding core 2 is stopped, whereupon the cover 8 is moved in the direction of arrow B, whereby the annular groove 4 and the winding layers 7 of the winding tape 6 accommodated therein are exposed as shown in FIG. 2. Now the winding core 2 is rotated again in the direction of arrow C and the take-up spool 24 is driven again. As a result, the winding tape 6 is unwound from the winding core 2 and wound onto the take-up spool 24. As soon as the winding tape length required for the formation of the intended winding 15 is unwound from the winding core 2 and wound onto the take-up spool 24, the drives for the winding core 2 and the take-up spool 24 are stopped. The cover 8 is now in the direction of Arrow B '(Fig. 3) pushed back so that the annular groove 4 is covered again for the subsequent winding process. The winding tape length not required remains wound on the winding core 2 and is located in the annular groove 4, as can be seen from FIG. 3.

In order to wind up the printed products 25 (FIG. 9) occurring in scale formation S, which are fed by the belt conveyor 21 to the winding core 2, the latter is driven in the direction of arrow D (FIG. 9), while the take-up spool 24 is slightly braked. The printed products 25 are wound together with the winding tape 6 unwound from the take-up spool 24 onto the winding core 2, as is explained in more detail in the aforementioned patents. The innermost winding layer 16 comes to rest on the bearing surface 3 of the winding core 2 or on the cover 8 covering the annular groove 4, as can be seen from FIG. 5. The winding tape layers 17 run over the cover 8, which prevents these winding tape layers 17 and thus also the wound printed products 25 from being drawn into the annular groove 4.

When the winding 15 is completed (FIG. 10), the winding tape 6 is completely unwound from the take-up spool 24. The free end 12 of the winding tape 6 is pressed against the outermost winding tape layer 17 ', to which it is detachably held by means of the Velcro fastener, as already mentioned.

The finished roll, which is shown in FIG. 6, can now be removed from the winding station 20 and brought to an intermediate storage facility or to a further processing station.

The. Unwinding of the printed products 25 from the reel 15 takes place in an unwinding station which is constructed similarly to the rewinding station 20. The unwinding process takes place in the reverse order of the winding process described. The winding tape end 12 is conveyed to the take-up spool 24 and releasably attached to it. The take-up spool 24 is then set in rotation, which results in the winding tape 6 being wound up and the printed products 25 being unwound from the winding 15. The unwound printed products 25 are carried away by the belt conveyor 21. If the winding core 2 is empty, the cover 8 is moved in the direction of arrow B (FIG. 2) and the annular groove 4 is exposed. By driving the winding core 2, the winding tape is now unwound from the take-up spool 24 and wound onto the winding core 2, the winding tape 6 coming to rest in the annular groove 4. Towards the end of this wrapping process, the winding core 2 is stopped, the cover 8 is pushed back in the direction of the arrow B '(FIG. 3), and then the outer winding layers 7a of the winding tape 6 are wound onto the cover 8, so that an empty winding carrier 1, as shown in Fig. 1.

It is also conceivable to completely accommodate the latter in the annular groove 4 when the winding tape 6 has been wound onto the winding core 2. In such a solution, the cover 8 would then have to be pushed back before the start of the unwinding process to unwind the winding tape 6. In addition, the detachment arrangement 23 would have to be designed such that it is able to engage in the open annular groove 4 in order to be able to grasp and detach the winding tape end 12.

This variant differs from the winding support 1 shown in FIGS. 1-4 only by a different design of the cover. In contrast to the cover 8 shown in FIGS. 1-4, the cover 26 in the winding support 1 according to FIGS. 11 and 12 is not connected in a rotationally fixed manner to the winding core 2, but is rotatable with respect to the latter about the longitudinal axis 2a of the winding core 2. In order to enable such a relative movement between cover 26 and winding core 2, the latter is provided with guide grooves 27 into which guide bodies 28 of cover 26 engage, as can be seen in particular from FIG. 11.

Since the cover 26 can rotate when unwinding the winding tape 6 from the winding core 2 with respect to this winding core 2, it is no longer necessary to push the cover 26 away to the side in order to expose the annular groove 4. The cover 26 is rotated into a position in which the passage opening 9 assumes the correct position for the winding tape 6. The cover 26 remains in this position during the unwinding process, with a locking device possibly being necessary, as will be explained with reference to FIGS. 13 and 14.

In the embodiment according to FIGS. 11 and 12, some winding layers of the winding tape 6 can be wound onto the cover 26 in the same way as explained with reference to FIGS. 1-4. However, it is also possible in this second embodiment to completely cover the winding tape in the annular groove 4, in which case it will be necessary to provide means for grasping the free end 12 of the winding tape 6 and through the passage opening 9 from the closed annular groove 4 lead out. A corresponding solution is explained below with reference to FIGS. 13 and 14.

In the embodiment shown in these FIGS. 13 and 14, the annular cover 29 can be rotated relative to the winding core 2 in the same way as in the variant according to FIGS. 11 and 12. The cover 29 is designed as an open ring, the ends 29a and 29b of which define the passage opening 9 for the winding tape 6 (FIG. 13). On the side edges of the cover 29, sliding elements 30 (FIG. 14) are fastened, with which the cover 29 slide on guide tracks 31 on the winding core 2, which are set back relative to the bearing surface 3 for the wound printed products (FIG. 14). The two ends 29a, 29b of the cover 29 are connected to one another by means of one or more connecting elements 32 (FIG. 13). The connecting element 32 or the connecting elements 32 allow a certain change in the diameter of the cover 29 so that the cover 29 can nestle tightly against the winding core 2 when the printed products are being wound up rend it loosely abuts the winding core 6 from the winding core 2 when it is being unwound.

On the inside of the cover 29, a pressure spring 33 is attached, which presses the free end 12 of the winding tape 6 against the underlying winding layer 7 '. 13 and 14 of the Velcro fastener, not shown in FIGS. 13 and 14, is pressed onto the Velcro fastener part 14 (likewise not shown) at the next winding layer 7 '. When the winding tape 6 is rewound into the annular groove 4, this pressure spring 33 thus ensures that the free winding tape end 12 is detachably connected to the underlying winding layer 7 '.

In the area of the passage opening 9, a release spring 34 (or a plurality of release springs) is also attached to the cover 29 (FIG. 13), which bears against the outermost complete winding layer 7 '. When the winding core 2 is rotated, this release spring 34 engages under the free end of the tape 12 and detaches it from the underlying winding layer 7 '. The detaching spring 34 also ensures that the now detached strip end 12 is guided outwards through the passage opening 9, as is indicated in FIG. 13 by the strip end 12 ′ shown in broken lines. In order to avoid rotation of the cover 29 and thus the detachment spring 34, a locking bolt 35 is only shown schematically, which can be moved in the direction of arrow F and which can be brought into engagement with the cover 29.

In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 13 and 14, the winding tape 6 wound on the winding core 2 is thus completely inside the annular groove 4 covered by the cover 29 on the outside.

In both embodiments according to FIGS. 11 and 12 or 13 and 14, the unwinding of the winding tape 6 from the winding core 2 and the subsequent winding up of the printed products 25 is basically carried out in the same way as has been described with reference to FIGS. 7-10.

It goes without saying that the exemplary embodiments explained above can also be designed differently than described as in various parts. For example, instead of a Velcro fastener for releasably connecting the free end 12 of the winding tape 6 to the underlying winding layer 7 'or winding tape layer 17', another solution can be provided. In particular, the end 12 of the winding tape 6 can be made of a magnetic material or provided with a magnetic element. The section of the winding tape 6, which becomes the outermost winding layer 7 'or the outermost winding tape layer 17', must then consist of a magnetizable material over a corresponding length, so that the free end of the winding tape 12 by magnetic force on the outermost winding layer 7 'or on the outermost winding tape layer 17 'can adhere.

As such, it would also be conceivable, similar to the winding body described in CH-PS 652 379 and the corresponding US-PS 4,532,750, to wind the winding tape 6 accommodated in the annular groove 4 on a core which is rotatable with respect to the winding core 2 surrounding it. However, such a solution would have the disadvantage compared to the illustrated embodiments that, in addition to the drive for the winding core 2, a drive for rotating the winding tape core is also necessary.
