Definitions

  • the invention relates to an installation for cleaning surfaces, provided with a blasting device by means of which blasting material supplied to the blasting device with pressurized air can be sprayed.
  • the purpose of the invention is to obtain an installation of the above kind by means of which said disadvantage of the devices usual up to now can be avoided, at least to a very large degree.
  • the blasting device comprises blasting means surrounded by a casing to which a duct is connected, said duct being connected, with the interposition of a filtering device, to a device generating a sub-atmospheric pressure.
  • the air polluted by dust will directly be exhausted at the blasting device by the sub-atmospheric pressure generated in the casing surrounding the blasting device and be retained in the filtering device, so that dust formation can be avoided.
  • a further advantage is thereby that at the same time practically all blasting material can be recovered in a simple manner.
  • the blasting device is provided at the open end with a collar of a flexible material in order to be able to effect a good junction to the surface to be worked, said collar protruding from or being located, at least substantially, in the extension of the casing.
  • Said collar may be formed by a brush, for instance.
  • a screen may be arranged at some distance from the open end of the casing in order to prevent blasting material from being sprayed past the object in question and getting into the environment, said screen being provided with a flexible collar at its side facing the casing, which collar extends into the direction of the collar fixed to the casing.
  • a small object to be worked e.g. a bar of a gate or the like
  • blasting material moving along the bar will be stopped by the screen and the collar fixed to said screen.
  • the installation shown in fig 1 comprises a blasting device 1, which is diagrammatically illustrated in section on a larger scale in fig 2.
  • the blasting device 1 comprises a cilindrical casing 2, into which a blasting nozzle 3, coaxially arranged relative to the casing 2, extends.
  • the blasting nozzle 3 is adjustable in its longitudinal direction and can be fixed in a desired position relative to the casing 2 by means of clamping means (not shown).
  • the casing 2 is open at one end. Said open end is surrounded by a circular flange 4, to which there is fixed a brush 5 which is also circular and surrounds the open end of the casing 2, said brush forming a flexible collar.
  • a stub 6 is mounted on the casing.
  • a duct 7 is connected to the blasting nozzle 3, via which duct blasting material, such as blasting grit, can be supplied to the blasting nozzle 3 with pressurized air.
  • a line 8 by means of which the casing 2 is connected to a first filtering device 9.
  • the filtering device 9 in its turn is connected to a second filtering device 11 by means of a line 10.
  • the filtering device 11 is connected, by means of a line 12, to a venturi-tube 13, known by itself, to one end of which there is connected a line 14 for supplying pressurized air.
  • the filtering device 11 is illustrated in more detail in the figs 3 and 4.
  • the filtering device is provided with a drum-shaped casing 15, which is closed at its upper side by a detachable cover 16. Through the cover 16 a pipe 17 is passed, extending into the interior of the vessel. To the upper end of the pipe 17 there is connected the line 12.
  • a dish 19 extending perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of the pipe 17, said dish being fixed to the bottom end of the pipe 17 by means of a few supports 19.
  • a hole is provided in the centre of the bottom of the receptacle 20, said hole being surrounded by a pipe 21 fixed to the bottom of the receptacle 20 and extending upwards. Through the pipe 21 there extends a vertically extending part of a pipe 22, which is passed to the exterior through the bottom of the vessel 15.
  • a stub 23 is provided on the vessel, extending at least substantially tangentially relative to the circumference of the vessel, said stub being in open communication with the interior of the vessel.
  • the line 10 is connected to the stub 23.
  • stub 23 there is located the end of a pipe 24 coaxially surrounded by the stub 23.
  • a great number of bores 25 are provided in the wall of said end of the pipe 24 surrounded by the stub 23.
  • the filtering device 9 also comprises a vessel 26 which is closed at its upper side by means of a detachable cover 27.
  • the cover 27 is provided with a pipe corresponding with the pipe 17, to the upper side of which pipe the line 10 is connected.
  • a stub 28, corresponding with the stub 23, is connected to the upper end of the vessel 26.
  • the end of the line 8 facing away from the blasting device 1 is connected to said stub 28.
  • a removable receptacle may be provided on the bottom of the vessel 26.
  • blasting material such as e.g. blasting grit
  • the blasting device is thereby preferably handled such by the operator that the free ends of the brush hairs of the brush 5 at least practically touch the surface to be cleaned.
  • the blasting material will exit from the blasting nozzle 3 in a more or less conical pattern.
  • the material thus exhausted from the casing 2 first gets into the filtering device 9.
  • the stub 28 is connected in a more or less tangential direction to the vessel 26 having a circular section, the air flow entering the vessel will get into a swirling motion, as a result of which the heavier particles, such as the blasting material, will be flung outwards against the inner side of the wall of the vessel 26 and fall downwards and land on the bottom of the vessel thereby or in a receptacle possibly placed on the bottom of the vessel.
  • the air is further discharged via the line 10 into the direction of the filtering device 11.
  • water is supplied under pressure via the pipe 24 during operation, said water being sprayed into the interior of the stub 23 via the openings 25.
  • the air thus purified is discharged via the pipe 17, the line 12 and the venturi device 13.
  • the plate 18 arranged at some distance from the open bottom end of the pipe 17 will thereby oppose an undesired entraining of water particles via the pipe 17.
  • the dust caught by the water particles will deposit, at least to a large extent, in the receptacle 20 and said receptacle 20 can be removed, after removal of the cover 16, from the filtering device 11 at certain intervals in order to be cleaned.
  • Said filtering device is formed by a vessel 29, in which one or more drums 31 provided with brush hairs 30 or similar protruding means are rotatable about horizontal axes of rotation. During operation the vessel will be filled with water to the level of the axis (axes) of rotation of the drum(s) 31. Furthermore e.g. the line 10 and the line 12 are connected to the vessel.
  • the air is exhausted from the vessel again via the line 12 and will enter the vessel via the line 10. It will be apparent that the velocity of the air in the vessel 29 will thereby be considerably lower than the velocity of the air in the lines 10 and 12.
  • the water is flung upwards into the air thus flowing slowly through the vessel by means of the brush hairs 30 or similar carriers for catching the dust present in the air, so that also here an effective purification of the air can be effected.
  • a plate-shaped screen 32 is arranged opposite the open end of the casing 2.
  • a rod 33 is fixed to said screen,. said rod being displaceable in its longitudinal direction in a hole which is provided in a support 34 fixed to the casing 2.
  • the rod 33 can thereby be secured against displacement in the support 34 in any position desired by means of a clamping bolt screwed in the support 35.
  • a circular brush collar 36 corresponding with the brush collar 5, said collar having substantially the same form as the brush collar 5 and being located at least substantially in the extension thereof.
  • a small object e.g. a bar of a fence or a similar elongated object may now be placed between the two flexible collars formed by the brush collars 5 and 36, whereby said collars are moved towards each other as far as possible after the object has been arranged between the collars. It will be apparent that such an arrangement does not interfere with the displacement of the blasting device 1 in the longitudinal direction of the object.
  • Blasting material supplied via the blasting nozzle 3 during operation, which moves past the object to be worked will strike against the screen 32 an move back from there, at least to a large extent, to the interior of the casing 2, as the barriers formed by the brush collars 5 and 36 prevent the material from moving sideways.
  • the used material can be discharged from the casing via the stub 6 as described hereinabove in connection with the first embodiment of the blasting device.
