Description

The present invention relates to a strip display comprising a strip carrying a series of visual information and stretched between two rolls on which it is wound and driven synchronously, and a display device comprising several strip displays, in particular for the automatic display of oil prices.

Displays are known carrying only a single visual information carried by a removable fixed plate in a housing in which are arranged lighting means. With such a display, the change of information must be done manually.

There are also known displays comprising a series of light-emitting diodes allowing a certain number of combinations corresponding to as much visual information. These displays have a high cost.

Finally, strip displays are known comprising a strip wound on two rollers driven by a double clutch device cooperating either with one or with the other of the rollers. Such a display requires the presence of moving parts and therefore a large footprint and cost. In addition, the tension of the strip is not guaranteed whatever the position of the strip.

The invention therefore relates to a strip display comprising a strip carrying a series of visual information and stretched between two rollers on which it is wound, the rollers being mounted parallel to rotate in a chassis, and spaced at least the length of strip occupied by visual information, and a synchronous drive mechanism for the two rollers, characterized in that the drive mechanism comprises a toothed belt or chain driven by a motor and cooperating with a first toothed pulley locked in rotation on the first roller and a second toothed pulley mounted idly on the second roller and connected to the latter by elastic means of compensating for the tension of the strip as a function of the variation of the diameters of the rollers resulting from the winding of the strip.

Advantageously, the elastic means consist of a spiral spring coaxial with the second roller.

In particular, the invention relates to a strip display as defined above and the positioning of which is automatic by remote control.

Advantageously, the strip carries indications each corresponding to visual information carried by the strip are intended for controlling the position of the strip.

Advantageously, the strip carries as many marks as there are indications and intended, by comparison of the indication corresponding to the image to be displayed with the indication corresponding to the displayed image and by counting marks, for positioning the strip.

The invention also relates to a display device characterized in that it comprises a series of strip displays according to the invention, arranged in a common housing.

A first shaft 4, on which a first roller 5 is wired, is mounted to rotate, at one of its ends, in a bearing 6 mounted on the first side plate 2 and, in the vicinity of its opposite end, in another bearing 7 mounted on the second side plate. The first roller 5 is arranged in the vicinity of the upper end of the chassis, the shaft 4 projecting outwards from the second side plate.

A second shaft 8, on which a second roller 9 is wired, is rotatably mounted in two bearings 10, 11 in the same manner as the first shaft 4 and projects outwards from the second side plate.

The second roller 9 is arranged in the vicinity of the lower end of the chassis, the two shafts 4, 8 being parallel.

A strip 12, carrying a series of visual information (not shown) over its entire length L, is stretched between the two rollers 5, 9 on which it is wound so that the strip portion located between the two rollers is located towards the front of the chassis. As can best be seen in Figure 3, the strip is stretched in the vicinity of the front edges of the side plates 2 by means of two positioning rollers 13 mounted idly on shafts 14 fixed on the frame above the first roller and at the below the second roll respectively.

Advantageously, lighting means (not shown) are arranged inside the chassis 1 behind the strip 12, the strip sections carrying the information being transparent, translucent or fluorescent for the purpose of night-time operation.

La bande porte également des indications 17 destinées au contrôle d'état de la bande et à son positionnement et détectées par les autres moyens de détection 16.As can be seen in FIG. 1, the strip carries marks 15, the counting of which by one of the detection means 16, intended to be connected to a data processing circuit (not shown) and carried by an angled rim of the plate 3b, during the movement of the strip, allows the positioning of the strip for particular visual information to be displayed. The strip also carries indications 17 intended for monitoring the state of the strip and for its positioning and detected by the other detection means 16.

In this particular embodiment, these detection means 16 can be constituted by infrared cells arranged above the first roll, the marks and indications being located on the strip above each visual information.

Le fonctionnement du dispositif de commande de l'afficheur sera décrit plus en détail en référence à la Figure 5.Operation of the control device of the display will be described in more detail with reference to Figure 5.

The axis of rotation of the motor is parallel to the shafts of the rollers 5 and 9 and projects outwards from this side plate. A toothed drive wheel 20 is wedged on the part of the projecting shaft and cooperates with a toothed belt 21. This toothed belt also cooperates with a first toothed pulley 22 wedged on the shaft 4 of the first roller, a second pulley toothed 23 mounted madly on the shaft 8 of the second roller and two idler rollers 24 rotatably mounted on this side plate and located on either side of the first toothed pulley so as to maintain a sufficient grip of the belt on this pulley.

The second pulley 23 is connected to the shaft 8 by means of elastic means and in the present example by a spiral spring 25 housed in a housing 26 formed in the pulley. The spiral spring 25 is fixed by one of its ends to the peripheral wall 27 of the housing 26 and by its other end in a notch 28 of the shaft 8.

This spiral spring 25 is intended to compensate for the tension of the strip 12 as a function of the variation in the diameters of the rollers driven synchronously, resulting from the winding of the strip.

La Figure 4 représente une courbe de variation de la longueur de bande à compenser (ou de la résistance opposée par le ressort spiral qui y est proportionnelle) en fonction de la position de la bande ou de l'écart des diamètres d'enroulement des deux rouleaux, ces rouleaux ayant le même diamètre à vide.FIG. 4 represents a curve of variation of the length of strip to be compensated (or of the resistance opposed by the spiral spring which is there proportional) as a function of the position of the strip or of the difference in the winding diameters of the two rollers, these rollers having the same diameter when empty.

As can be seen in Figure 4, the curve describes a parabola and goes through a minimum when displaying the middle of the strip, the two rollers then having the same winding diameter. The length of strip to be compensated increases on either side of this midpoint due to the variation of the difference between the diameters of the rollers as shown in Figure 4 below the position of the strip shown as d 'example by numbers from zero to nine symbolizing visual information regularly spaced on the tape.

To achieve this curve, we took as an example a 6 m strip with an information pitch of about 50 cm. The diameter of each roller varies from 41 mm to 46 mm and vice versa to that of the other roller.

The spiral spring has a minimum reserve tension at the midpoint. When going from each information to the next, the number of revolutions of the roller 5 progressively goes from 2, 8 (information 0) to 3.2 (information 9); at the same time, that of the roll 9 passes from 3, 2 to 2, 8, the compensation between the two rollers being ensured by the action of the spiral spring which also maintains a substantially constant tension of the strip 12.

La Figure 5 représente un synoptique d'un dispositif de commande d'un afficheur à bande selon l'invention pouvant être réglé à partir de roues codeuses 30 destinées à être placées à distance de l'afficheur.FIG. 5 represents a block diagram of a device for controlling a strip display according to the invention which can be adjusted from coding wheels 30 intended to be placed at a distance from the display.

The encoder wheels 30 are connected to a reading and validation circuit 31 itself connected to a conventional data processing circuit 32, for example a programmable controller. The detection means 16, for example infrared cells, which detect, during their passage, the marks 15 or studs and the indications 17 of the position of the strip, are also connected to the circuit 32 of the data processing. The marks and indications are located above each item of information so that they are located opposite the detection means when the corresponding image is displayed.

Le circuit 32 reçoit ensuite des moyens de détection, la valeur Y correspondant à l'information affichée et donnée par les indications 17, par exemple en code BCD.An output of the circuit 32 is connected to the electric motor 19 via an adaptation interface (not shown). When the reading and validation circuit is commanded, it sends to the data processing circuit the value X of the coding wheels corresponding to the information to be displayed. The circuit 32 then receives detection means, the value Y corresponding to the information displayed and given by the indications 17, for example in BCD code.

The circuit 32 performs the comparison of the two values and controls the motor to advance the strip of X-Y information, by counting the marks by means of the detection means, or to make it move back according to the sign of X-Y. The circuit 32 can then carry out a second verification comparison. With such displays of reduced cost and low bulk, it is possible to produce a display panel comprising a series of displays and control the display remotely. A particular application of these displays is the display of petroleum prices, the order of which can be carried out in parallel with that of the display of the price at the pump.
