Abstract

The cardboard tray, which is formed from a single blank, is provided with a handle strap (10) which is already attached at its ends to the flat blank, extending transversely to the latter. The attachment is effected on blank portions which, when the tray is set up, form two opposite side walls (4a; 4b). By virtue of this arrangement, the handle strap (10) firstly lies in the interior of the tray, but it can also readily be swivelled out into a position of use. <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to a cardboard tray formed from a 'flat blank with a bottom, two end walls and two side walls, the latter being formed out of the plane of the bottom part or the end wall parts, overlapping and glued together, and one on the two attached opposite side walls, which can be folded out of the inside of the shell into the active position and consist of a band.

In the case of cardboard trays of the type described above, in particular those for packaging fruit, fruit, etc., on the one hand the consumer demands a carrying handle, but on the other hand, its manufacture or fastening causes certain difficulties.

No. 2,918,206 shows a shell formed from a single blank, in which the handle is also cut at the same time. The problem was not primarily the complexity of the cut, but the fact that when the bowl was set up, the handle was already in working position, which made it difficult to fill in the goods.

The handles attached by means of rivets, such as those used for example in deep-drawn plastic trays that are widely used on the market, can be pivoted, but their attachment in the box is problematic.

The object of the present invention is now to provide a carton tray formed from a flat blank in an economical manner with a functional handle which can be brought into active action after the goods have been filled into the tray.

According to the invention, this object is achieved in the case of a cardboard tray of the type defined in the introduction in that, when the blank is cut flat, the handle runs from one of the part of the side walls forming a fold-out part from an end wall part to the opposite mirror-image cut part, that the ends of the handle band are in each case around one a pre-formed folding line is folded down section of the cut parts forming part of the side walls and that each foldable section on the folding line is provided in the region of the strap with a recess which enables the sections to be folded down together with the band with a flat cut.

With the construction, it is possible to fasten the handle strap on the flat blank, for example by gluing the strap ends to the corresponding side wall parts. When the bowl is set up, the handle band lies inside the wall tightly and can be swung upwards after filling the contents.

The handle strap is preferably fastened to a section of the blank parts forming part of the side walls that can be folded down by a pre-scored folding line, i.e. preferably glued on, the foldable section on the folding line in the region of the strap being preferably provided with a recess which allows the sections to be folded over together with the tape with a flat cut, i.e. without bending it by the tensioned band.

The aforementioned recess in the section of the side wall blank that is not to be folded over is preferably further expanded and forms a stop edge for the strap that is folded out in the active position, whereby at least some of the forces acting on the handle are transmitted to the side walls via this edge without stressing the attachment.

  • Fig. 1 einen flachen Kartonzuschnitt, versehen mit einem Henkelbland, zur Bildung einer erfindungsgemässen Schale;
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to an embodiment shown in the drawing. The drawing shows:
  • 1 shows a flat cardboard blank, provided with a strap, to form a tray according to the invention;
  • Fig. 2 shows a detail of a shell according to the invention, which illustrates the attachment of the handle in more detail, and
  • 3a and 3b details from Fig. 2, on an enlarged scale.

Fig. 1 shows a flat blank to form a cardboard tray. Part 1 forms the bottom, while the parts 2, 3, and 4, 5 attached to it via pre-scored or pre-pressed folding lines 1 a, 1 b, 1 and 1 d serve to form the two end walls and the two further side walls. The middle sections 4,5 form the end walls, while sections 2, 4a and 5a or 3,4b and 5b, suitably glued together, form the other two side walls, for which purpose sections 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b easily around the Lines 6, 7 and 8, 9 are bent when sections 2, 3 are opened.

A handle band 10 is applied to section 4 across the entire blank, by gluing its ends to sections 4aa and 4bb, which can be folded down about the pre-scored or pre-pressed lines 11, 12.

When the shell is set up, the handle strap 10 will basically run in the position shown inside the shell, close to the walls. The belt can, however, at any time, e.g. after filling the bowl, be unfolded upwards in active position. To ensure that no tension is exerted on the blank when sections 4aa or 4bb are folded down (by shortening the free band length), recesses 13, 14 are provided on the folding lines 11 and 12 in the region of the handle band. This compensates for the shortening of the belt by folding it over. In the example shown, these recesses are widened, creating a stop edge 15, 16. By folding out the handle strap 10 in the active position, the strap comes to rest against the edges 15, 16. The forces acting on the strap are introduced into the side walls via the edges 15, 16. This relieves the actual fastening point (adhesive) and achieves a high tear resistance of the handle.

Fig. 2 shows a section of a side wall of an erected cardboard tray. From the Section 2 is on the outside. Section 4a comes directly below, with part 4aa folded back and strap 10 attached to it. At the innermost part is section 5a, which covers the pivoting range of the handle without being glued to it.
