- An annular electrode 48 in the shape of a torus, is arranged in the diametrical plane of the sphere 10, perpendicular to the movable contact pin 32, coaxially surrounding the separation gap "d" of the fixed 28 and movable 32 contacts.
- the electrode of revolution 48 is interposed between the metal casing 10 and the separation interval "d" which constitutes the zone of formation of an arc, during a cut of capacitive or inductive current.
- the diameter of the torus 48 is substantially equivalent to the distance "d" of insulation between the fixed contacts 28 and movable 32 in a separate position.
- the annular electrode 48 is fixed by arms or a cap 50 to the fixed contact 28. These arms are tangentially connected to the outer edges 52 of the torus to have a rounded shape avoiding any concentration of the electric field. Opposite ends of the arms 50 are fixed to the rear of the fixed contact 22 sheltered from the distributor cover 40. The arms 50 provide the mechanical support and the electrical connection of the annular electrode 48 to the fixed contact 28.
- the separation distance from the annular electrode 48 to the movable contact 32 and to the distributor cover 42 is always greater than or equal to the isolation distance "d" separating the fixed contacts 28 and movable 32 in open position, so as to ensure sufficient dielectric strength.
- the annular electrode 48 is sufficiently distant from the grounded metal casing 10, to avoid any breakdown between this electrode and the casing 10.
- the isolation disconnector is clear from the previous description: - in the disconnector closed position, the pin 32 is engaged between the clamps 30 of the fixed contact 28 and ensures the connection between the bars 20, 22.
- the opening of the disconnector is controlled by the mechanism 36 which imposes a sliding movement of pin 32 down in the figure.
- an arc strikes between the arcing finger 44 and the end of the pin 32, as shown in the figure, this arc (or a secondary arc from the first) being likely to migrate on the distributor cover 40 and from there on the annular electrode 48.
- the electrode 48 prevents any passage of the arc towards the metallic envelope 10, in particular between the fixed contact 28 and the electrode 48, the distance to be crossed to reach the casing 10, grounded always being greater than that to reach the electrode 48 or the distributor screen 40.
- the cap 50 which can be full or perforated to form support arm, constitutes an additional barrier screen. Any risk of earthing is thus avoided.
- the metal casing 10 may be in the form of an ellipsoid or of a cylinder associated with frustoconical connection parts or of any other form.
- the section of the electrode of revolution 48 can be flattened to constitute an oval or a simple cylinder if care is taken to provide the edges with a swollen portion to avoid any point capable of ensuring a concentration of the field lines. Referring to the figure, it can be seen that the internal part of the electrode of revolution 48, disposed opposite the fixed contact 28, is of little use and that it can be removed, the electrode 48 being summed up in this case to a rounded part formed by a folding of the edge of the cap 50. The specialist can easily imagine other operating forms of such an electrode of revolution 48.
- the arrangement according to invention requires a larger volume, but this increase is largely offset by the security provided by the electrode 48 which constitutes an almost impassable barrier to the arc. In the case of an envelope of sufficient diameter, it is obviously unnecessary to increase the section of the envelope in line with the ring of revolution 48.
- the fixing and the electrical connection of the electrode of revolution 48 can be carried out in a different manner and independently of each other, the invention of course extending to any variant remaining within the framework of equivalences.

Abstract

The invention relates to a disconnector of an armored installation with a metallic shell of revolution, grounded, filled with a gas of high dielectric strength, comprising:
a movable contact in the form of a sliding pin, capable of coming into a closed engagement position with an aligned fixed contact, and into an open position for separating said fixed contact by an isolation interval "d",
- a field distributor screen in the form of a fixed hood covering the end of the fixed contact to which it is electrically connected and having a central opening for the passage of the movable contact pin in the closed position of the disconnector, - a field distributor screen cover associated with the movable contact and arranged to cover the end of the movable contact in the open position while being electrically connected to the movable contact.
A disconnector of the type mentioned makes it possible to isolate part of the installation or a departure, in particular from an armored station, the operation of the disconnector being carried out without load. Such a disconnector may have to cut capacitive or inductive currents of low power, but sufficient to draw an arc between the contacts of the disconnector. Such an arc is quickly extinguished during the continued operation of the disconnector and does not lend itself to consequence when it remains confined in the contact separation zone. It has been noted that in a shielded installation with a grounded metal casing, the arc drawn between the contacts of the disconnector risks under certain severe conditions to migrate towards the casing and to generate an internal breakdown of the arc at the Earth. To avoid these drawbacks, it has already been proposed to limit the duration of the arc by an accelerated speed of the contacts or to maintain the arc in the central part by field distribution screens. These solutions give satisfaction for certain operating conditions, but they do not provide a absolute reliability.
The present invention aims to allow the production of an isolation disconnector avoiding any ignition towards the earthed enclosure, during an operation of the disconnector.
The disconnector according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises an electrode of revolution arranged coaxially around said isolation interval "d", being interposed between this interval and the metal casing to capture an arc capable of migrating from said interval towards said envelope.
By surrounding the arc zone with an electrode connected to the fixed contact, neither the formation of the arc nor its possible migration is prevented, but this migration is then oriented towards this electrode, preventing initiation on the envelope placed Earth. The electrode of revolution is sufficiently distant from the movable contact and from the parts at the potential of this contact, to hold the insulation voltage. The electrode of revolution is also at a sufficient distance from the grounded metal casing to avoid any breakdown between this electrode and the casing. To this end, the metal casing advantageously has at the level of the electrode of revolution an enlarged section sufficient to ensure the dielectric strength of the installation. The envelope may be spherical or of cylindrical shape of enlarged section, connected by frustoconical parts to the cylindrical sheaths of the installation.
The length of the electrode of revolution corresponds substantially to the length of separation of the contacts to avoid any path from the arc to the grounded enclosure. The edges of the electrode of revolution are rounded to ensure a good distribution of the field and to limit the risks of priming. The electrode is preferably in the form of a ring, for example a toroid of circular section, coaxially enveloping the contacts of the disconnector. The ring of revolution is fixed to the fixed contact by arms ensuring at the same time the electrical connection, these arms tangentially connecting to the external part of the ring. The arms can belong or be replaced by a full cap forming a real screen between the fixed contact and the annular electrode preventing any passage of the arc in this interval.
Other advantages and characteristics will emerge more clearly from the description which follows of an embodiment of the invention, given by way of nonlimiting example and shown in the attached single figure, which is an axial section of a disconnector according to the invention, shown during the opening of the contacts.
In the figure, a sealed and
According to the invention, the
The operation of the isolation disconnector is clear from the previous description:
- in the disconnector closed position, the
The
