Abstract

A tape guidance duct (16) disposed in the manner of an arch bridging the object (20) to be strapped is provided to guide strapping tape (13) when it is being advanced and which releases the tape when it is tensioned around the object (20). The tape guidance duct (16) is assembled in modular manner from a plurality of monolithically formed, sequentially arranged, detachably linked segments (22, 23) which connect with each other by arms extended to fit into corresponding recesses so that, upon such forced engagement, neighboring segments butt together securely at planar end faces and have no lateral play. In this manner the shape and the path of the tape guidance duct (16) is adapted to particular circumstances e.g., different heights or widths of objects being strapped, in simple manner.

Description

The invention relates to a device for strapping an object with a band according to the preamble of claim 1.

In known devices of this type, the band guide channel is generally a single machine part, which is dimensioned such that the largest object that is likely to be strapped finds space for the user in the working opening left free by the band guide channel.

This design has disadvantages both for the manufacturer of the device and for the user. If the manufacturer wants to respond to user requests, he must manufacture tape guide channels of various sizes and keep them in stock. For the user, however, a lot of time is wasted in the strapping operations if the objects to be strapped are considerably smaller than the existing tape guide channel would allow; because with each strapping enough strap length has to be advanced until it has wrapped around the object at least once in the strap guide channel, after which - when the strap is stretched around the object - a larger part is pulled back again. If the user wants to avoid this loss of time, he has to replace the existing - too large - tape guide channel with a smaller one and possibly have to procure this from the manufacturer of the device first. In addition, when replacing the one tape guide channel with one with different dimensions, there is a not inconsiderable amount of changeover time.

In this prior art, it is considered to be a purpose of the invention to provide a device of the type mentioned at the outset which largely avoids the disadvantages mentioned.

For this purpose, the proposed device has the features defined in the characterizing part of patent claim 1. Due to the modular construction of the tape guide channel from successively arranged, detachably coupled segments, it is possible, for example, by standardizing the segments, both for the manufacturer and for the user of the device, to provide extensive flexibility in adapting the tape guide channel to different dimensions of the objects to be strapped in one to achieve significantly shorter changeover times. On the manufacturer side, a comparatively small number of segments must also be kept in stock in order to meet practically all requirements with regard to the format of the tape guide channel.

Features of preferred embodiments are defined in the dependent claims.

The device 10 shown in FIG. 1 has a basic unit 11, in which a supply, for example a spool 12 of a strapping band 13 is arranged, which is pulled off by a pull-off and feed device 14 and advanced in the direction of the arrows 15 through a band guide channel 16, until the leading end of the band 13 arrives at a clamping device 17 and is held there. The belt guide channel 16 spans portal-like the upper surface of the base unit 11 designed as a work table 18 and leaves a work opening 19 free, in which an object 20 to be strapped is placed on the work table 18. As soon as the leading end of the belt 13 has reached the clamping station 17 and is held there, the pull-off and feed unit 14 reverses and thus tensions the belt 13, which is released by the belt guide channel 16, around the object 20. When the desired tension of the belt 13 around the object 20, a closing and cutting device 21 comes into operation, which connects the overlapping regions of the band 13 to one another, for example by welding, and then cuts the band between the connection point and the pull-off and feed unit 14. So far, in general, the mode of operation of the strapping device 10 shown, the base unit 11 of which can be of any design known per se and commercially available. For the sake of completeness, reference is also made to CH-PS 574.841.

In the device 10 shown in FIG. 1, however, it can be seen that the band guide channel 16 is constructed from a multiplicity of segments 22, 23, the segments 22 being a rectilinear section and the segments 23 being, for example, a circular section of the band guide channel 16 spanning 90 ° form. As will be shown, the segments 22 and 23 are detachably coupled to one another in a simple manner.

It consists of a substantially cuboid base 24, which by two planar, perpendicular to the feed direction (arrow 15) of the Band is limited at the advancing end or abutment surfaces 25, 26.

In the base body 24 there is a tape guide section 27 which, as can be seen particularly clearly from FIG. 4, has a rectangular cross section and tapers in the direction of advance 15 of the tape, both in height and in width. On the side facing the working opening 19 (FIG. 1), the band guide section 27 in the segment 22 is delimited by two mutually extending slats 28, 29, which in this example are integral with the one made of a plastic, for example a polyacetal such as "Delrin" or "Hostaform" manufactured base body 24. The slats 28, 29 can, however, also be made of a different material and can be fastened on the base body 24 in a suitable manner. The lamellae 28, 29 can be bent out elastically, as indicated by dashed lines in FIG. 4 on the left, so that they allow the band to slip out of the band guide section 27 during the tensioning process.

On the opposite narrow sides of the end face 25, two connecting arms 30, 31 are formed on the base body 24, which protrude at right angles above the end face 25 and each have a ratchet tooth 32 or 33 at their ends. The arms 30, 31 have a rectangular cross section, the longer side (cf. FIG. 2) of which is somewhat less than the thickness of the base body 24. In addition, the arms 30, 31 can be spread apart somewhat from one another against their own resilience.

In the two narrow sides of the base body 24, which are perpendicular to the end face 26, there is a groove 34, 35 extending from the end face 26. The dimensions of the grooves 34, 35 with respect to width, depth and length correspond as closely as possible to the corresponding dimensions of the connecting arms 30, 31. The grooves 34, 35 each end in a notch 36, 37 which extends transversely to the latter and which accommodates one of the ratchet teeth adjoining segment 22 or, as will be shown later, serve an adjoining segment 23.

The joining of successive segments 22 already results automatically from the above statements. For example, a further segment 22 can be added to the segment 22 shown in FIG. 3 from above by the further segment 22 with its end face 26 pointing downward the segment shown is pressed. The arms 30, 31 are pushed apart thanks to the shape of the ratchet teeth 32, 33 and the ratchet teeth slide along the grooves 34, 35 of the further segment until they finally snap into its notches 36, 37. Since the arms 30, 31 fit exactly into the grooves 34, 35, the end face 26 of the further segment 22 comes to lie snugly and flat on the end face 25 of the segment 22 shown. The tight abutting of the two end faces 25, 26, but also the practically play-free fitting of the arms 30, 31 of the one into the grooves 34, 35 of the further segment results in an easily detachable but comparatively rigid connection between these two segments 22 . 5-7, an embodiment of the segments 23 is shown with an arcuate band guide section, which is particularly the same as that in FIGS. 2-4 shown segment 22 fits. Therefore, the same reference numerals as in FIGS. 2-4 are used for functionally corresponding parts, and only the essential differences are pointed out below.

The base body 24 'of the segment 23 is not cuboid in accordance with its arcuate band guide section 27', but its thickness corresponds exactly to the width of the base body 24 of FIGS. 2-4. The base body 24 'also ends in two flat end faces or abutment surfaces 25, 26, which, however, are perpendicular to each other. The tape guide section 27 'is designed here as an inwardly open, circular arc-shaped, wide groove, which describes an angle of 90 °. This tape guide section 27 'is inside, i.e. on its side facing the working opening 19 not delimited by lamellae, since these are not required. The width and the depth of the groove forming the tape guide section 27 ′ corresponds approximately to the average width and the average height of the tape guide sections 27 of the segments 22.

The arms 30, 31 with the latches 32, 33 extend from the end or butt surface 25, and from the end or butt surface 26 the grooves 34, 35, which end in the notches 36, 37. The elements 30-37 of the segment 23 of FIGS. 5-7 are identical in size and function to the corresponding elements of FIGS. 2-4.

It should be noted that the effective length of the tape guide sections 27 and 27 'is preferably the same length among each other. This enables the manufacturer to use tape guide channels with just two types of segments ger formats and the user to adjust the tape guide channel 16 of his existing device 10 with a few simple steps to the respective needs.

The segments 22 and 23 described with reference to FIGS. 2-7 are readily suitable in particular for tape guide channels 16 of small and medium format. With large-format tape guide channels, when using the previously described segments, especially if a very large number of segments 22 are lined up in the upper crossmember of the tape guide channel 16 (see FIG. 1), a certain deflection of this crossmember can hardly be avoided. Although this deflection has hardly any negative effects on the proper functioning, it can nevertheless be perceived as annoying. The segments shown in FIGS. 8-12 and in FIG. 13 are provided for these cases.

In den Fig. 8 - 12 sind für funktionell sich entsprechende Elemente dieselben Bezugszeichen wie in den Fig. 2 - 7 verwendet.FIGS. 8-10 show a segment 122 for straight-line guidance and FIGS. 11, 12 a segment 123 for arc-shaped guidance. 8-12, the same reference numerals are used for functionally corresponding elements as in Figs. 2-7.

The base body of the element 122 is supplemented by two integrally formed end flanges 38, 39, the flat, free end surfaces of which form the end or abutment surfaces 25 and 26, which are therefore considerably larger in their extension than in FIGS. 2-4. The end flanges 38, 39 are connected to one another by an integrally formed stiffening rib 40, which in turn is connected by a through bore 41 opening into the end or abutment surfaces 25, 26 is enforced. The connecting arms 30, 31 with the latches 32, 33 protrude from the end face or butt surface 25, while the grooves 34, 35 extend from the end face or butt surface 26 and end in the notches 36, 37. The statements made in connection with FIGS. 2-4 apply analogously to the band guide section 27 and the slats 28, 29 delimiting them.

The segment 123 of FIGS. 11, 12 essentially differs from the segment 23 of FIGS. 5-7 in that its base body is reinforced by two massive, integrally formed end blocks 42 and 43, the flat free end surfaces of which are the extent of the end or butt surfaces Increase 25 or 26 considerably. The end face 25 has a bore 44 extending at right angles to it and penetrating the end block 42, and the end face 26 has an analogous bore 45 passing through the end block 43.

26 anschliessenden Segment 122 fluchtet. The arms 30, 31 with the latches 32, 33 in turn protrude from the end or butt surface 25, while the grooves 34, 35 ending in the notches 36, 37 extend from the end or butt surface 26. The statements made in connection with FIGS. 5-7 apply analogously to the band guide section 27 '. It remains to be added that the bores 44, 45 are arranged in the segments 123 such that each is aligned with the bore 41 in a segment 122 adjoining the end face or abutting surface 25 or 26.

After segments 122 and 123 in the desired arrangement and number have been put on top of each other, there is a stiffer connection because of the greater extent of the abutting or abutting surfaces 25 and 26. In addition, a tensioning member 46 can be drawn in through the bores 41 and 44 or 45 and tensioned in a conventional manner, as a result of which a number of segments 122 forming a straight guide path can be tensioned together with the two adjoining segments 123 to form a very rigid connection.

A further advantage results if the segments 122 and 123 are designed to be compatible with the elements 22 and 23 of FIGS. 2-7 with regard to their elements 30-37, which are used for the mutual connection.

In addition, it is not imperative that the segments 23 and 123 forming an arcuate band guide section necessarily cause the band to be deflected by 90 °. Larger deflection angles can also be provided, so that the shape of the working opening 19 does not become quadrangular, but polygonal, which can offer a further advantage in the case of objects 20 which differ substantially from the cuboid shape. In any case, the described tape guide channel 16 has obvious advantages for both the manufacturer and the user of the device 10, which the conventional devices do not have.
