- a two-component developer is used for development, which consists of ferromagnetic carrier particles and toner particles.
- the developer mixture is e.g. guided by a magnetic brush arrangement past the charge pattern, to which the toner particles, caused by electrostatic forces, remain adhered.
- Such a developer station is e.g. known from DE-AS 21 26 667.

- This device contains a developer roller and a mixing screw, at the end of which the drain opening with a tube for connecting a bottle for receiving the developer mixture is arranged in the bottom of the developer station.
- the direction of rotation of the mixing screw and the developer roller is reversed in order to transport the developer mixture to the drain opening.
- the object of the invention is to design a device of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that the developer mixture can be removed completely, quickly and without risk of contamination of the environment from the developer station.
- a channel art that extends across the width of the developer station ge emptying opening, in the vicinity of which a magnetic closure device is arranged.

- the discharge opening is advantageously arranged downstream of a cylindrical air collector, in which the suctioned developer mixture is swirled and primarily serves to ensure a uniform pressure profile along the discharge opening. This enables the developer mixture to be removed quickly and reliably from the developer station.
- the closed emptying system means there is no danger of pollution to the environment. This also applies to unintentional actuation of the magnetic locking device if no safety measures are provided for this. Emptying is extremely quick and safe.
- mechanically moving parts e.g. Valves and valves are not exposed to the abrasive developer mixture. As a result, the entire device is considerably more reliable and wear-resistant.

- a trough-like housing 16 made of, for example, impact-resistant plastic, which is axial in accordance with the width of the photoconductor drum Direction along this photoconductor drum 11 extends.
- At the bottom of the housing there is an emptying opening in the form of a flat channel 17 which, for example, has a clear width of approximately 3 mm.
- a permanent magnet strip 18 extending over the length of the emptying opening is arranged in the region of this emptying opening designed as a flat channel. It can consist of a barium ferrite magnet that has pole plates on both sides and, for example, has a quality value (energy product (W. H) max ) of approx. 20 Has.
- the permanent magnet strip 18 can be pivoted to and away from the area of the emptying opening via an electromotive
- a cylindrical air collector 21 is arranged downstream of the gap-shaped emptying opening (flat duct 17). It consists of a cylindrical tube which extends along the emptying opening (flat duct 17) over the entire width of the developer station. Instead of the cylindrical air collector, a conical air collector can also be used, the largest diameter of which is located in the vicinity of the air outlet opening 22. This changes the flow conditions favorably and the air collector can be easily manufactured using the injection molding process.
- the air collector 21 is connected to a cyclone filter 23 via a flexible pipeline 22.
- the cyclone filter 23 is detachably placed on a collecting container 24 for the developer mixture. Downstream of the cyclone filter is a filter 25, which in turn is connected to a blower 26 generating a vacuum.
- a silencer 27 is located at the air outlet area of the blower 26.
- the entire device now works as follows.
- the developer station is filled with developer mixture and, according to the illustration according to FIGS. 1 and 2, the permanent magnet strip 18 is pivoted onto the flat channel 17. Due to its magnetic field in the area of the flat channel 17, which has an average height of only about 3 mm, the permanent magnetic strip 18 produces a plug of ferromagnetic carrier particles which prevent the developer mixture from escaping from the flat channel.
- a vacuum is generated by the continuously running fan in the air collector 21.
- the magnetic force of the permanent magnet strip is dimensioned such that developer mixture cannot escape through the flat channel 17. Since in the case of electrophotographic printing devices in order to remove the toner adhering to the photoconductor drum in the cleaning device during the printing operation, negative pressure must be constantly generated and this is also done in a manner not shown here, via the blower 26, the air collector 21 can be underpressure during the entire operation of the electrophotographic printing device lie. However, it is also possible to provide separate blowers for the cleaning station and for the device for removing the developer mixture.
- the permanent magnet strip 18 is simply pivoted away from the region of the flat channel 17 with the aid of the motor device 20.
- the flat channel 17 serving as an emptying opening for the developer mixture is thus released and the developer mixture can flow in a spiral spiral shape into the cylindrical air collector 21, which has an approximate diameter of 45 mm, due to the negative pressure having a water column of approximately 100 mm.
- the swirled developer mixture 13 flows in Leaving the air collector via the pipeline 22 into the cyclone filter 23, in which it settles due to the radial flow of the air developer mixture in the cyclone filter.
- the developer mixture falls out of the cyclone filter into the collecting container 24. Only small residues of the developer mixture penetrate into the fine filter 25, which catches this small remaining amount of developer mixture.
- a permanent magnetic strip made of barrium ferrite with pole faces on both sides is used.
- an electromagnet instead of this permanent magnet strip 18, which is activated if necessary.
- the electromagnet can be composed of individual magnetic elements. This also applies to the construction of a permanent magnetic strip.
- developer mixture 13 is fed from a storage container 28 to the actual mixture container 30 of the developer station via a feed channel 29.
- a magnetic closure device is assigned to the feed channel 29 and consists of two magnetic elements in the form of magnetic strips 33 and 34 that can be pivoted on and off separately via motors 31 and 32.
- the magnetic strips 33 and 34 are arranged at a distance from one another.
- the flat channel 17 already described.
- a further magnetic locking device which can be pivoted on and off separately from two by means of motors 35 and 36 Magnetic elements in the form of magnetic strips 37 and 38, which are also arranged at a distance from each other.
- the magnetic strips 33, 34, 37 and 38 are controlled via switches S1 and S2.
- the magnetic strip pairs are controlled in such a way that the magnetic strips 33 and 34 or 37 and 38 alternately contact the corresponding channels 29 and 17. This happens e.g. with respect to the supply of the developer mixture in the region of the storage container 28, in that first the magnetic strip 33, which is first in the direction of flow of the developer mixture, is pivoted, which penetrates into the feed channel 29 developer mixture. This developer mixture builds up on the swiveled-in magnetic strip 34. The first magnetic strip 33 is then swiveled in again and the second magnetic strip 34 swiveled out. The developer mixture stowed in the feed channel 29 can thus fall into the actual mixture container 30. This type of feed enables a metered addition of fresh developer mixture.
- the developer mixture is removed from the developer station and fed to the air collector 21.
- the microprocessor-controlled control device MCU controls and the access and the outflow of developer mixture to the developer station in such a way that small amounts of the mixture present in the developer station are removed via the magnetic strips 37 and 38 in relatively short periods of time, and that these mixture amounts then each out by the same new mixture amounts the reservoir 28 can be replaced via the magnetic strips 33 and 34.
- the average age can be calculated using the rule of thumb:
- a sensor SN is arranged in the mixture container 30, which sensor e.g. Can be part of a light barrier or can be designed as a capacitive or inductive sensor or as an ultrasonic sensor.
- This sensor is necessary because, in practice, the quantity of mixture supplied and discharged can never be set 100% the same.
- the microprocessor-controlled control unit MCU now controls the feed of the developer mixture through the feed channel 29 and the emptying of the developer mixture via the flat channel 17 in such a manner that the level in the mixture tank 30 of the developer mixture is uniform, depending on the level of the developer mixture in the mixture container 30 detected by the sensor SN sets.
- the storage area 28 is designed as an exchangeable storage container, the replacement can take place during the printing operation.
- the entire developer station is reduced to a minimum volume because the large amounts of developer that would otherwise be required for longer maintenance intervals are eliminated.
- the toner consumption is controlled according to criteria such as operating hours and toner consumption via the continuous mixture change.
- electromagnets can also be arranged which can be controlled alternately.

Description
The invention relates to a device according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
In copier technology and in non-mechanical high-speed data printers that work on the principle of electrophotography, charge images are stored on a charge image carrier, e.g. generated by a photoconductor drum and then colored with a black powder (toner) in a developer station. When using a photoconductor drum, the toner images are then transferred to plain paper and fixed there. Typically, a two-component developer is used for development, which consists of ferromagnetic carrier particles and toner particles. The developer mixture is e.g. guided by a magnetic brush arrangement past the charge pattern, to which the toner particles, caused by electrostatic forces, remain adhered. Such a developer station is e.g. known from DE-AS 21 26 667.
Since the developer mixture loses its triboelectric properties over time, it must be replaced with a new developer mixture at the end of its service life. This exchange of the developer mixture must be easy to carry out.
It is further from US-
With such devices, there is a risk that mixture may unintentionally flow out in the area of the outlet pipe. When connecting and removing the bottle, there is a risk of environmental pollution. Complete emptying is not possible since the screw and the associated screw channel must always be at a defined distance from one another. The entire emptying process takes a relatively long time. Experience has shown that toner solidifications can form on the screws, which can flake off.
The object of the invention is to design a device of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that the developer mixture can be removed completely, quickly and without risk of contamination of the environment from the developer station.
This object is achieved in a device of the type mentioned at the outset according to the characterizing part of patent claim 1.
Advantageous embodiments of the invention are characterized in the subclaims.
At the bottom of the developer station is a channel art that extends across the width of the developer station ge emptying opening, in the vicinity of which a magnetic closure device is arranged. The magnetic closure device is designed in such a way that its activated magnetic field in the region of the discharge opening forms a plug of developer mixture which closes the discharge opening. For emptying in the deactivated state of the closure device, the emptying opening is opened and the developer mixture is completely sucked out of the developer station by negative pressure by means of a suction device connected to the emptying opening.
The magnetic closure device has a magnetic strip, which can either consist of a permanent magnet or an electromagnet. When using a permanent magnet, the closure device for opening and closing the emptying opening is pivoted on or off the emptying opening.
In the closed state, the carrier particles made of ferromagnetic material form a graft which reliably prevents the developer mixture from escaping from the developer station.
To empty the developer station, either the magnetic bar is simply pivoted away or deactivated by switching off the current when using an electromagnet. This opens the emptying opening and a vacuum-generating device in the form of a fan can quickly and safely suck the developer mixture out of the developer station.
In order to enable uniform suction, the discharge opening is advantageously arranged downstream of a cylindrical air collector, in which the suctioned developer mixture is swirled and primarily serves to ensure a uniform pressure profile along the discharge opening. This enables the developer mixture to be removed quickly and reliably from the developer station.
The closed emptying system means there is no danger of pollution to the environment. This also applies to unintentional actuation of the magnetic locking device if no safety measures are provided for this. Emptying is extremely quick and safe. By using the magnetic locking device, mechanically moving parts e.g. Valves and valves are not exposed to the abrasive developer mixture. As a result, the entire device is considerably more reliable and wear-resistant. When the magnetic closure device is activated, a negative pressure can constantly be generated at the discharge opening via the suction device without the developer mixture escaping.
An electrophotographic printing device for existing waste containers for residual toner can advantageously also be used in the device. No additional drive is required to remove the developer mixture, since the developer mixture is removed solely by means of negative pressure.
During color changes or repairs, a usable mixture is sucked into a toner bottle in the collecting container, from which it can be refilled into the developer station when changing the mixture.
The entire device can be integrated in a simple manner in a cost-effective and space-saving manner in the developer station.
If emptying devices are used in an electrophotographic printing device in which different colors are printed, a color change can be carried out very quickly.

In a printing device operating on the principle of electrophotography, a
The developer station consists of a trough-
The entire device now works as follows. In normal operation of the electrophotographic printer device, the developer station is filled with developer mixture and, according to the illustration according to FIGS. 1 and 2, the
A vacuum is generated by the continuously running fan in the
If the
In the exemplary embodiments described, a permanent magnetic strip made of barrium ferrite with pole faces on both sides is used. In the embodiment of a developer station shown in FIG. 3 in a printing device that works according to the principle of electrophotography and works according to the principle of continuous mixture change according to the invention,
Controlled by a microprocessor-controlled control device MCU, which usually works, the
According to the same principle, the developer mixture is removed from the developer station and fed to the
According to the invention, the microprocessor-controlled control device MCU controls and the access and the outflow of developer mixture to the developer station in such a way that small amounts of the mixture present in the developer station are removed via the
Depending on the withdrawn quantity of the exchange quantity and the actuation time in which the exchange amount is replaced, a desired average age of the developer mixture is established.
In order to be able to better monitor this quasi-continuous mixture change, a sensor SN is arranged in the
Due to the fact that the average age of the mixture remains constant after a certain time as a result of the continuous mixture exchange, the print quality is uniformly good. Some problems with developer mixtures, which are common at conventional developer stations in which the developer mixture is replaced after the end of a certain service life, are eliminated since these problems arise particularly in the last service life range. This includes in particular device soiling due to high toner concentration, increased volume of the developer and the associated developer transport problems in the developer station. By continuously changing the mixture, it is possible to keep the toner concentration in the mixture constant without it having a special after aging regulation needed. The overall developer exchange and the associated downtimes for the device take place only at long intervals.
If the
With the microprocessor-controlled control unit MCU, the toner consumption is controlled according to criteria such as operating hours and toner consumption via the continuous mixture change.
With the alternately controllable magnetic strips, a fine dosage of the developer mixture is possible, be it during feeding or when emptying.
As already described with regard to the exemplary embodiments in FIGS. 1 and 2, instead of the pivotable
