Description

The subject of the invention is a rest seat capable of occupying a plurality of positions, from a position in which its backrest occupies a slight inclination fairly close to that of the back of a chair, to a relaxation position in which its backrest occupies a steep inclination approaching the horizontal.

Seats of this type are known per se; and many are the more or less complicated mechanisms adopted to allow them to change positions. Whatever these mechanisms are, these seats have a common characteristic residing in the fixity of the surface serving as a seat, that is to say of the seat itself, only the position of the backrest being adjustable. From this fixedness of the seat, it follows that the comfort of the entire seat is only really good for one or certain inclinations of the backrest. Thus, if the shape and position of the seat are such that the seat surface is substantially horizontal, comfort is good when the backrest occupies a fairly raised position, but it becomes poor when the backrest is brought in the inclined position, the body of the user tending, in fact, to slide forward because it is not retained by the seat surface. Conversely, if the seat surface occupies a somewhat inclined fixed position, the comfort of the seat is good when the backrest is strongly inclined, but is poor when the backrest is straightened.

There is a gap there that the invention overcomes. It has for its object, for this purpose, a seat in which, the seat being articulated on the front feet, the backrest being articulated on the seat, and the armrests being articulated on the backrest, the latter is articulated on the rear feet by an axis crossing a slide arranged in each of the two rear legs, and the two armrests are connected to the top of the front legs by a latching system with several positions, with leuquel it is possible to modify the inclination of the backrest whose change inclination causes, by displacement of the axis in the slide a modification of the inclination of the seat.

Thanks to this arrangement, the inclination of the seat varies proportionally to that of the backrest, which provides excellent comfort in all positions.

Various means can be used to vary the inclination of the backrest. In one embodiment, the latching system connecting each front leg to the corresponding armrest consists of the upper end of the front leg which cooperates with either one or more of the stops provided in an elongated casing fitted under the armrest, ie with the front end of this casing.

So that during periods of non-use, the seat can be stored folded back on itself, the front and rear legs of the base are hinged together, and the two slides allowing the two articulation axes to pass through. backrest on the rear legs extend backwards and downwards over part of the height of the rear legs.

As is known per se, this seat can, moreover, be equipped with a footrest in order to constitute a real chaise longue. According to the invention, the backrest then extends downwards by two arms connected by an axis with two connecting rods articulated to the footrest which is itself articulated at the front end of the seat; and according to another characteristic, each of these two connecting rods has an elongated lumen at the front end of which the hinge pin is supported on the arm of the backrest when the seat is used, while this axis is supported at the end back of this light when the seat is folded.

The invention will be well understood, moreover, and its advantages as well as other characteristics will emerge clearly from the description which follows, with reference to the appended schematic drawing, representing, by way of nonlimiting example, an embodiment from this seat.
  • Figure 1 is a side view in elevation, in position for use in a table chair,
  • Figure 2 is a side view in elevation, in the relaxation chair position,
  • Figure 3 is a side view in elevation, in the folded position and,
  • Figure 4 is, on a larger scale, a partial sectional view along 4-4 of Figure 1.

In this drawing, (1) and (2) respectively designate the front legs and the rear legs constituting the base of the chair, and (3), (4) and (5) respectively designate its seating surface, its backrest and its armrests.

The front (1) and rear (2) feet are articulated around an axis (6) by means of which it is possible to fold the rear foot (2) on the front foot (1) for the purpose of folding the whole of the armchair; and on the front leg (1), the seat (3) is articulated around a transverse axis (7) located substantially mid-length of the seat.

At its rear end, this seat is articulated by a transverse axis (8) to the backrest (4); and under its front end, the seat (3) receives a footrest (9) which is articulated to it around a transverse axis (10).

As for the backrest (4), it is articulated by an axis (12) on the rear leg (2); and this articulation has the originality of being made by passing this axis (12) through a light (13) arranged in the rear leg (2). This light has a rectilinear upper zone (13a) in which the axis (12) is when the seat is in the position of use, which is the case for the two positions shown respectively in FIG. 1 and in FIG. 2 This branch (13a) is straight and is inclined slightly up and down from the rear towards the front of the chair.

The light (13) has a second branch (13b) which extends over part of the height of the rear leg (2) in the direction of the bottom; this two xth branch is intended to be used for sliding and housing the axis (12) when the seat passes from a position of use to the fully folded position shown in FIG. 3.

Ce petit carter sert au logement, au coulissement et à l'arrêt de l'extrémité supérieure (16) du pied avant correspondant (1).Each of the two armrests (5) is freely articulated on the backrest (4) around a horizontal axis (14); and under its underside, each armrest is arranged to form a small elongated casing (15) whose underside is open. This small housing is used for housing, sliding and stopping the upper end (16) of the corresponding front leg (1).

As for the footrest (9), it is connected by a pin (17) to a connecting rod (18) located under the seat (3). By an axis (19), this connecting rod (18) is articulated to an arm (20) extending the backrest (4) downwards. This axis (19) crosses not a circular hole, but a light in an arc (21) arranged in the rear part of the connecting rod (18).

When the seat is in the table chair use position, that is to say occupies the position shown in FIG. 1, the backrest is in a position as close as possible to the vertical, the axis (12) of articulation of the backrest assembly (4) - seat (3) on the rear legs (2) is placed in the rear part of the upper branch (13a) of the light (13) arranged in the rear leg (2 ), the armrests (5) occupy a low position in which the upper end (16) of the front leg (1) is locked between the rear face of the small casing (15) and a stop (22), and the foot (9) is retracted under the seat (3), the axis (19) of articulation of each arm (20) of the file being in abutment at the front end of the light (21) of the connecting rod ( 18). In this table chair position, the seat (3) occupies a position which is very slightly inclined downwards from the front towards the rear.

Si cette poussée est effectuée jusqu'à son maximum, le fauteuil adopte la position de relaxation représentée à la figure 2.To move from this table chair position to that of a relaxation chair, it suffices to temporarily lift the two armrests (5) and exert a push on the backrest (4) towards the rear. When the upper end (16) of the front leg (1) has indeed been released from its housing between the rear face of the casing (15) and the stop (22), the backrest (4) is free to move towards the 'back; and by pushing backwards, it is possible to bring it into the desired tilt position. If this push is carried out to its maximum, the chair adopts the relaxation position shown in Figure 2.

In this position, the axis (12) of articulation of the backrest (4) - seat (3) assembly on the rear foot (2) has moved in the forward direction until it stops against the front end of the branch (13a) of the light (13). This displacement of the ace (12) leads, by lowering the assembly carried by the axis (12), to a lowering of the backrest (4), of its extension arms (10) and of its axis (8) hinge at the seat (3). It follows that the seat pivots about its axis (7) of articulation at the front foot (1), which ultimately causes this seat to occupy a position much more inclined than its original position shown in Figure 1. It emerges Figure 2 shows that the increase in the inclination of the backrest (4) downwards is accompanied by an increase in the inclination of the seat downwards from the front towards the rear. .

The backrest tilting movement (4) backwards was also accompanied by an upward movement of the footrest (9). By angularly moving in the direction of the front, the two arms (20) extending the backrest (4) have in fact exerted by their axes (19) a push on the front end of the lights (21) of the two connecting rods (18 ), thus bringing the development of the footrest (9) forward.

Thanks to its layout, this chair has the advantage of allowing excellent comfort in its various positions of use. As the inclination of the backrest (4) increases towards the rear, the inclination of the seat (3) from top to bottom and towards the rear varies in effect in the same proportions.

Because of its arrangement, this chair also has the advantage of being able, as shown in Figure 3, to be fully folded up in a small footprint, especially a small thickness, when not in use. This small footprint is due to the fact that the various elements of the chair interlock with each other thanks to:
  • - the articulation of the rear feet (2) on the front feet (1) around an axis (6),
  • - the articulation of the seat (3) both on the front legs (1) around the axis (7), and on the backrest (4) around the axis (8),
  • - the articulation of the armrests (5) on the backrest (4) around the axes (14), and the possibility of disengaging these armrests from the upper ends of the front legs (1),
  • - the articulation of the footrest (9) under the seat (3) about an axis (10),
  • - the articulation of the backrest assembly (4) - seat (3) on each rear leg (2) by means of an axis (12) cooperating with a light (13) whose branch (13b) extends over part of the length of the rear leg (2),
  • - And the presence in the rear part of each connecting rod (18) of a light (21) to the rear end of which slides, in the folded position of the seat, the axis (19) of articulation of this connecting rod to the corresponding arm (20) of the backrest (4).

It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this multi-position seat which has been indicated above, by way of example; on the contrary, it embraces all of its variant embodiments.
